View Full Version : A "J" spends a day as a "P"
Do you ever spend just say "screw this" and spend your day wandering like a P?
I sometimes do that when I'm less busy. I just start the day without a plan in mind. But at the end of the day, I always remember why I am a J and not a P; I realize that in a single day, I have ruined my plans for the next few days because I didn't get as much accomplished that day as I should have.
J's... share your P-days!
Haven't done it before?
TAKE THE CHALLENGE! It must be possible for J's to be completely spontaneous for a day... right?

Considering my "J" isn't very strong, I think spend most of my days being partially "P"...
It did become rather obvious the other day, though, when one of my group members (for a school project) emailed me and asked me just how far along with our planning we were supposed to be, and I told her that we were assigned the project only 2 days ago, so I didn't think it mattered as long as we'd at least thought about the project.

I used to be P up until some weeks ago.
But yeah, I love just letting my mind wander and doing nothing.
But it's an evil I must fight. So much to do!

No, I can't. That would require me to plan the day to be a P and not plan, which is a paradox. I do, however, allow myself time to make new plans up on the spot, leave time to be as spontaneous as possible. One could say I sometimes plan being unplanned.

Like Firelie my "J" isn’t very strong so I have a tendency to lapse into P-ness from time to time. I find myself drifting off into analysis-paralysis more often than I care to and I have to force myself to get out of that trap and "make something happen". If given an open-ended situation I'll turn INTP. However, if the situation is closed-ended enough I can stay true to my INTJ "roots".

I can't remember one day that was unplanned at least in my mind :-? (except of course when I was younger and didn't need to plan)
If plans had to be changed at the last moment it bugged the hell outta me. It's partly what bugged me about a tennis coach. The tennis plans were changed at the last minute half the time and I didn't know what was happening til the last minute. That just bugged me to no end.
I try and give myself enough flexibility so they don't have to be changed. That's difficult though sometimes. Sometimes I have to plan every second of a day.
I have quite a strong J. The closest to P I get is I have certain times during the day in which I can let my mind wander and go through crazy hypotheticals sometimes. In those instances half the time I will think I'm crazy getting too off the wall. But I can let it wander pretty freely. For x amount of time though. And if I do let it wander doing nothing I have a voice in the back of my head telling myself I need to be doing something. At least most likely. It's rare I actually don't have something to do.
edit: my J range is usually 88-90 - it really stays around there. Haven't seen it much lower.

Aw, c'mon, is it really that bad to be a P? :P Some of you guys are talking about it like P stands for "Procrastinator". It's true that I delay and overthink, but only with very important decisions where I should be taking careful consideration. Otherwise I just wing it. :P

...not bad, just different!
But seriously...it's said that sometimes INTP's get "lost in the fog" of thought and drift off into their own minds. That's what I think of when I think about "going P".

You know what the sad thing is?
If I tried to go P and be spontaneous and late to things or something. I'd *plan* how late I'd be. Or it'd be some number I like, like 15 minutes on the dot (late that is). Then I'd probably end up being there on time. Because I like getting to things early. Early is on time for me.
If I planned being unplanned, it'd basically just be shifting my plans. And I'd probably forget that I was supposed to be unplanned.
The only times I'm able to be spontaneous is within the sections of time I've planned. Like if I have a window of time I'm allowed to do whatever I want, I'll decide then. When that time comes up. But I'll only do it for x amount of time.

Ok, on Monday I'll go into work LATE. I'll say to any action I'm given ITS NOT MY RESPONSIBLITY or OBLIGATION. I won't follow the project PLANS we'll JUST IMPROVISE, chaos is fun. I won't CHECK UP ANY PROGRESS because all employees are capable and not a bunch of dim witted slackers. Yeah, a DEADLINE is only important if I could get the sack, otherwise "whatever". In fact we'll have a naval gazing meeting so all the fellow P's can search for all sorts of solutions but NOT DELIVER.
As you can see, there's plenty of P's in most companies. :'(
Bring me a competent ISTJ any day of the week. * 8-)

I can SO relate to this. Even when I TRY to be random I can't be!

*laughs at the planning to be late* - I think you've just proven who invented stylishly late.
Spending a day as a P.... Nothing would get done at all.
The only time I spend a day as a P is when I'm sick and literally can't do anything or after exams for a day or two. I just zone out and actually switch on the TV *gasps*.

ditto... i'm always an hour early here in the office and in any appointment i will be in. except for saturday when i'm always late for 15 minutes. when my boss tapped this trend of mine, he never bothered anymore since i'm getting things done anyway. lol...
then i always say, "time is relative and according to me watch, you're late"
although i did try not to make a schedule and just live the rest of the day. sunday is for p-ness. but since i end up doing nothing and i have no sched, i end up sleeping or just try to lessen the work load for the weekdays.

I do this so often frankly I'm surprised I test as a "J". My J is only 11, so I guess I'm pretty borderline.
Usually if I have something to do, I will never stray from that (like if people expect me somewhere, I'll never just ditch them). But if I personally don't have anything specific to do, I'll drive around and get lost in a bookstore somewhere or walk around a mall and just sort of people-watch or window shop.
But I'm a big-time long-term planner so I am definitely J when it comes to "down the road". But on a day-to-day basis I could appear very P-ish.

What's interesting in relation to me is that my J or P changes depending on my environment.
If I'm in school or at a place where work needs to be done, I'm J.
If I'm at home, I'm a P.
And that really screws me over considering how many intellectual pursuits I have (Computers, guitar, politics, and more).
