Scientists at UC Berkley have discovered how to "cloak" objects, albeit on the nano scale. These sorts of things make me wish I could live for five hundred years to see all of the amazing things we are capable of accomplishing.

If I could make something invisible, it would be facial hair. Think of all the chicks out there with unwanted facial hair... no more waxing, tweezing, or bleaching the hair to an unnatural and obvious blond color! They could dye it invisible. Now there's a million-dollar idea. I need to patent this...

Toggalble Invisibility has always been one of my top wishes. (That and teleportation,Mind Control, and Immortality with eternal youth...) I mean, just imagine what you could do..what you can hear. Throw in an Anti-Thermal Imaging device and bam there you go, Ultra Assassin.

I heard about this on NPR. Pretty effin bad a$$ if you ask me. And I agree with you about wishing you could live long enough to see further developments.

It is of course not absolute invisibility but rather the bending o light around the item in question, the black-body radiation is still observable.
Wonderful advance in technology. Rather questionable how it is to be used.

That is so freaking cool! That's like materials science showing off! Exciting exciting news :D
Bending light backwards could cause a whole new area of research! Imagine the possibilities....
I mean, materials like that *must* have some very interesting photo-properties to them.
And it could add like a whole new section to physics classes. When they're talking index of refraction...negative index...what does that imply?!

Ah yes. I heard about this. Very exciting but I have to wonder will the government really allow the people to have such power if they manage to cloak a human being?

Bad science reporting makes me sad :( It's not cloaking. It's still awesome, though.

Bending light around a person in order to make them invisible is plausible, but not practical as if you remove all interaction of light from a person, how are they to see?

Right. It'll also be a very long time before technology is available for visible wavelengths. Another hard thing is making the covering flexible and sturdy.

I read that they are developing invisible tanks right now... It was something about redirecting the light so that, well, you just can't see them... kinda scary though

Awesome find. I have it bookmarked now.
