I saw this discussed in an intro thread a while back, so here it is, the definitive question. Does your avatar look right, left or face the world head on? Is it intentional, does it say anything about you?

Mine faces right, which is of course the correct direction.

A little right's right.

Always to the right and looking upwards.

I'd say inward, but that's not a choice. So to the left and angled down.

I'm never quite sure with mine as I try to not look too often. Also, the eyes follow you. Which is creepy. At least I think those are the eyes....

As I stated (in what I believe was the referenced intro thread (http://intjforum.com/showthread.php?t=7029)) my avatar - against all proper copy and publishing norms - is facing left. Honestly didn't even think about it until le Duc brought it up. But as Arachne said, I can overthink and then justify anything.

Again, I recommend a trip to the Museum of Ethnology in Hanoi to clarify (ScurvyRose might appreciate - no, no trout, sorry) - Jughead, have you bought your tickets yet? Let me know when to meet you at the airport.

Or you could just Google Giarai tomb carving I suppose...

Boustrophedon - wow, new term, new concept - sorta wondered why we didn't read like that (seems more efficient both for the eyes and for printers/copyists). Thanks for widening my world!

In the general pessimistic view of INTJs, I see there is no "avatars are looking up" option.

I also note that those of us who have avatars facing the proper direction don't get weighted votes.

Mine looks left to hide the fact that it stole your lollipops and is consuming them surreptitiously. While thinking, of course.

SmartOne

Left, left is right and right is wrong!
Now the question is does the orientation of the pic depend upon whether or not the person is left or right handed?

I noticed. You've been found out blob.

I'm a blob and yes it says something about me. I'm not sure what though. Maybe that I'm really bright yet slightly warped or that I'm looking down on all of you with warpedness or whatever. I'm going to go google "Boustrophedon" now. Later.

Same as above: body to the left, looking forward.

I once read introverts wrote with a slant to the left, while extroverts wrote with a slant to the right. Not completely relevant to this thread, but hey.

Current avatar is front facing (plus awesome drifting eye!), but the sepia avatar of me is to the left.
The other one I use is Lotfi, the man with the night-vision monocle.
How could you not love that face of Lotfi though? It's like a constant :B face.

Ah, but with a body facing forward and to the left. Does this denote some inner conflict? Or perhaps a heightened awareness?

Wait, are we judging by which way the avatar is facing to us, or to the character in the avatar themselves?

PHS Philip
08-11-2008, 02:53 PM
To us, I think.

Left (away from the text box)

Haphazard
08-11-2008, 03:00 PM
Okay, then mine's leaning to the left.

However... I've heard that the right side of your face (left to us) displays more positive emotions and the left more negative. Even though my last avatar was also facing left, he was leaning towards our right... and he also looked significantly more upset.

Coincidence?

BlackMita
08-15-2008, 08:05 AM
Mine faces center... but with his eyes closed. What's weird is my previous avatar faced right, and the one before that faced left; never did that intentionally.

Synamon
08-15-2008, 09:37 PM
That has eyes? Are you sure it doesn't fall into the blob category? teehee

Umm, well Gandalf's body is angled to the right, but he is facing nearly head-on, probably so he can stare into your soul or some such wizardry.

As for what it says about me... I'm an INTJ who likes Gandalf, and the picture I chose happens to have that particular orientation because, well... it does.
