Is anyone else fearing, or already becoming annoyed with the public buzz surrounding Watchmen? It's as if extroverts are dissecting it with false authority (a pastime for them, it seems) and introverts (God help us/them) are fetching their tights from the closet again with smirks on our/their faces. Generalizations, I know, but each type deals with excitement in their own way.

I even annoyed myself when I whispered "Watchmen" when finally realizing what trailer I was seeing when I went to see The Dark Knight (another nightmare! people and excessive clapping for Ledger; let me the man rest!)

Batman, Spiderman, Superman, X-Men; okay-American favorites-exploit all you want. But why is everyone pretending this is the case for Watchmen? I know, it will pass. But until then, I'll just smile when I overhear the over-enthused, recently converted Watchmen fan talking with authority on the subject, and think to myself, "no." I also have nothing against new fans, just am often annoyed with their premature declarations.

In any case, it's good to know that we (and perhaps the FJ's) will see a bit of representation from Rorschach.

I will admit to looking forward to this one for a few years, but I'm not seeing a whole lot of public buzz or hype over it. I think there has been enough generated to have it do decently in the theaters, but I doubt it will be breaking box office records. It's just not quite mainstream enough to bring in the giant, over-zealous crowds the way Batman and Spiderman can.

As a side note, I quite happy that they put off doing it until now. The original plans of Robin Williams playing Rorshcach....I just can't imagine that one at all.

I have no idea what this post is about. I opened this thread thinking it was about the "ink-blot" test.

Then, just a bunch of rambling.

The Watchmen movie. Rorshcach is name of the main character.

INTJoe: I'm sorry you're confused.

jikin: Robin Williams? Glad that fell through. I guess I'm reacting to the cover of
Entertainment, which featured the cast. Also, many people clapped at the trailer's
end. It was, admittedly, breathtaking, but I find it hard to believe that such a large
concentration of Watchmen fans just happened to be in the theater of a
mainstream movie. Though, this was also the same theater in which a Ledger-Joker
fan (prior to getting a fair look at Ledger's performance, mind you) arrived (makeup
surprisingly accurate) 10 minutes before the movie, expecting to find a seat. Hey, it
made me laugh, so maybe he was smarter than I originally thought.

I'm highly skeptical that the upcoming movie will be any good due to the "unmarketable" content, which is necessary for the depth of story, without it being heavily sanitized for the public to consume and offending any delicate sensibilities.

Me too. I'm disappointed. I thought this was going to be a fun thread where ink blots were posted and people could come interpret them. Oh well.

Apparently there aren't as many fans as I thought. Maybe this is a good thing.

I don't really care what our arch-enemies, the Evil Extroverts, think about the movie. I just can't wait to see it.

I guess I got over getting annoyed when other people like or are excited by things that I like when I was about seventeen.

It will still, most likely, get botched. I'll watch it though.

Don't get me wrong. I don't hate extroverts, and thought I gave equal weight to introverts when I wrote this.

Wow, he's as tough as nails. Call me seventeen, I guess.

You're right, you did. I just thought the "a pastime for them" comment was amusing.

Does it ring true a bit, in your opinion?

Maybe, but, like most stereotypes, it's also divisive and shortsighted.

Also (and this doesn't really apply to you), a lot of times when people on this board bash Extraverts and particularly ESxx's, I can't help but be reminded of geeky kids in high school talking about how much they hate the popular kids. I don't know why, it just reeks of bitterness and jealousy on some level.

That it does.

Hmmm same director as 300. I hope that doesn't mean this is going to be another overblown dumbfest :P The trailer is magnificent anyway, like the 300 trailer was.

I really liked the trailer; it was breathtaking..I watched it a few times, I must admit. But, I don't know how they're going to pull off a movie! How can they write a script for that graphic novel?! They have to "dumb" it down a lot, and I bet they will, considering the director. D: And I heard they decided to change the time setting to the present??

And I heard they decided to change the time setting to the present??

No. Zack Snyder insisted that the time period remain the same as the book, complete with Richard Nixon. I remember reading about a casting call for celebrities of that era (or at least the alternative version of that era), including Castro, Annie Leibovitz, and Yoko Ono.

I never saw 300 so I can't comment on Zack Snyder's resume, but every interview I've read with him suggests that he "gets" Watchmen and is doing everything possible to do the book justice. The fact that he would fight with the studio to get Nixon in the movie and get "Tales of the Black Freighter" made says a lot to me.

I'm glad Tales of the Black Freighter was left in. It was very much parallel to what was going on in the story and the political climate.

There is still so much that is going to be left out, though. When the Doomsday clock reaches Midnight, will they still allow that imagery to be present?

I'm still doubtful. 300 didn't exactly win me over.

By the way, Karamazov, nice picture.

Thanks

Well, keep in mind it won't actually be in the movie, at least not the theatrical cut. It will be released separately on DVD with some kind of making-of documentary, and will probably be included in a director's cut DVD eventually.
