I've always known I was different than others, but I had never heard of the Myers-Briggs personality profiles until today. I took the test, and sure enough, INTJ. After doing a little research and learning how rare I am, it kind of made sense. I completely empathize with many of the posts I've read. I'm a 20 year old Engineering Physics/Mathematics major at a public university. My whole life I've been told I'm stubborn, arrogant, highly intelligent.. you get the idea. Something that has kind of confused me, however, is that unlike many of you (from what I've read), I thouroughly enjoy school. Listening to teachers/professors has never been hard for me to do. Is this typical of INTJ's or am I just weird? Anyways, I look forward to reading more of your posts, and like a typical INTJ, I will probably do more reading than actual posting : ).

Hi,

Yeah I know that feeling of not being at the same level as everyone, it either makes you hide it away and think there's something wrong with you or you hide it away and just realize that there's something wrong with everyone else :).

Yes I did and still do enjoy education and anytime I hint otherwise is mainly due to the stubborn nature of being told I'm wrong because a lecturer/teacher doesn't understand what they're saying. Welcome!

I think it all depends on the school you went and the teachers you had. Although I've posted a bit about how much school bothered me, there were definitely some good teachers. The best teacher I had was my cegep physics teacher Nick Trofimenkoff. Actually... now that I think about it, he was definitely an INTJ hahaha. That makes so much sense. I'll make a post about how awesome he was at some point... I have lots of stories.

Some days I wonder if I'll be one of those forever-students...

Welcome, and I'm sure you'll fit right in - three days and I'm already feeling comfortable. The folks here seem to be a veery interesting and diverse lot.

Something that has kind of confused me, however, is that unlike many of you (from what I've read), I thouroughly enjoy school. Listening to teachers/professors has never been hard for me to do.

You're not alone there. I always enjoyed school, and listening to professors was never a problem. I was one of the few students that actually stayed awake in lecture hall.

I love school and learning, too!
I was surprised to find out other INTJs disliked lectures.
I love them!
I am an auditory learner though, so maybe that makes a difference.

I had planned to skip an intro post entirely, but in a cruel twist to typical INTJ's this forum appears to require two postings before embedded links and images can be viewed.

I can see both sides of enjoying school. In a program where you can mainly chose courses you like, where the curriculum matches your interests, or where you get lucky enough to get an instructor who turns something you considered uninteresting into a better experience, it's easy to enjoy yourself.

I enjoyed at least 80% of high school and undergraduate EE/CS work for these reasons. I did minimal studing, but I paid attention and put in extra time on projects. On the other hand, I did well in graduate school and enjoyed little of it. I was already successful professionally and had enough friends and interests that I knew I'd have enjoyed doing other things more. School just wasn't that challenging and getting the degree became a necessary chore (probably why I stretched it to five years part-time).

I love learning, but at some point many INTJ's probably realize that they can progress faster and better on their own. It may be difficult to maintain focus in group learning situations unless there's a lot of interesting discussion.
