Hello to all. My name is Wise and I suspect I'm the oldest member. I'm 48.

Anyway, live in Kentucky. Found out about this forum through IHIQ. New to that as well.

Early retiree from state goverment (HR Manager...I really am not a people person)

Wouldn't have picked INTJ (not a leader), but I tested twice with varying answers and the result both times was INTJ.

So, I'm here to learn about people like me.

Now that I've said to much for an INTJ, I'll shut up.

Hi wise, welcome to the forum!

I'm glad to have an older member on the board. My goal is to have a forum of INTJs with diverse backgrounds, so hopefully this won't only appeal to the young crowd.

Found out about this forum through IHIQ. New to that as well.
What's IHIQ and how did they refer you to the forum? Just curious, I haven't heard of that before either.

Thanks for the welcome.

Sorry for the acronym. That would be International High IQ Society (IHIQS); omitted the S the first time.

The link to this forum was in a thread on that site. The thread was discussing INTJ, INTP and the sort.

Wow, linked from another forum, word is getting around! Welcome.

I've taken more MBTI tests and am convinced that I am really an INTP. The main reason is that I am NOT a natural leader. I avoid leadership like the plague. Althought there are significant differences, there are plenty of similarities between INTJ and INTP, so I'll stick around.

I don't think all INTJs enjoy leadership, but rather than speaking for everyone, I made a topic for it (http://intjforum.com/YaBB.pl?num=1190816426/0#0).

What are the other things that make you think you are more of an INTP? Just curious because I relate to the INTPs a lot too.

Jezebel,

I've been looking for some examples of why I think I'm an INTP. Here's a few:

Often when I talk to people they only get from me a few steps—one, thirteen, a hundred. That’s all that gets verbalized, and what’s very clear to me either I’ve forgotten or find unnecessary to say out loud, which can come across as confusing at times.

I have very little tolerance or patience, especially if the person is above me or isn’t really trying. I don’t think I push people any harder than I push myself and most people probably push less, which is where conflict comes in. Some people say my standard may be way out of whack and I assume the other person is competent.

There is this constant balancing act between self-confidence and questioning myself.

These statements are excerpts of this: http://www.bestfittype.com/intp.html

Then from this site, http://www.socionics.com/prof/intp.htm, I like the following examples:

They do not like to make presents or lend money to others. Because of this quality they usually try to appear poorer than they actually are. However when it comes to spending money on themselves, they can be very generous.

INTps usually work slowly, paying a lot of attention to detail. In their activities they show a strict logic, that can sometimes become very pedantic and scrupulous.

Some of those traits also overlap with INTJs, and it is debated whether the socionics INTp is actually closer to an INTJ (mbti) description because they flip the cognitive functions around. Not that I'm defending that you are an INTJ. You could just as well be an INTP for all I know. In case you didn't already see it, this is another thread on the site you might want to check out: Differences between INTJs and INTPs (http://intjforum.com/YaBB.pl?num=1189643765)

Another angle to look at it from is to find out which cognitive processes best fit you (and here's a thread for that (http://intjforum.com/YaBB.pl?num=1190002510))

Based on this I'm virtually half and half.

I really don't like things left hanging, but I can tend to leave things hanging. That causes an internal conflict with me. Open ended/Closed ended....that is the question.

I just took the Jung test again. 100% I, 38% N, 85% T, 33% J

I'm confusing myself now (which I tend to see an INTP doing).

It's all good fun anyway. Thanks for the link.

Dear Wise,

Here's a very simple comparison of the fundamental differences between J & P
from personalitytype.com

Judgers often:

Make most decisions pretty easily
Are serious & conventional
Pay attention to time & are prompt
Prefer to finish projects
Work first, play later
Want things decided
See the need for most rules
Like to make & stick with plans
Find comfort in schedules

Perceivers often:

May have difficulty making decisions
Are playful & unconventional
Are less aware of time & run late
Prefer to start projects
Play first, work later
Want to keep their options open
Question the need for many rules
Like to keep plans flexible
Want the freedom to be spontaneous

Maybe that might help?

Hello The Rose,

That was very helpful. Five out of the eight points pegged me as INTJ.

Off topic replies have been moved to This Thread

Not because they were really off topic, but because they were good and I thought they might be useful to more members than wise. Since he already had a chance to read them, didn't want them to get lost in an intro thread.
