View Full Version : How fast do you type?

I'm kind of curious to see if typing skill has anything to do with personality type. I have a feeling that it does. I typically get a speed of around 125 words per minute with about 95% accuracy on typingtest.com.

96 WPM with 88% accuracy.

I max out at around 80, though I normally type at around 60 or so.

70 WPM right now, but only because I don't use "proper" typing technique except when I have to to get something done, so during the summer, and when we aren't getting a lot of essays or reports in school, I get out of practice. During the peak essay/report times of the school year, probably 90 to 105 or so.
I get about 60, probably because I've never learnt to type properly (I use two fingers only :shy:). 95% accuracy.

I got 47 WPM, 92% accuracy. Pitiful, I know. At least I don't hunt and peck.

When I go about typing casually usually 60 wpm at 98% accuracy allowing me to think at the same time.
With effort and concentration my faster rate is 80 wpm at 95%.
My highest rate tested was 97 wpm at 92%

Any typing test that tells you you're doing over 100wpm is wrong. Or you're superhuman. One of the two.

I just tried the test. I got 62 WPM at 97% accuracy. Normally my accuracy is probably a bit lower, though.

hmmm. I got 49WPM at 92% accuracy. I can't think fast enough to type any faster. I also write insanely slow as well. Can't help it. As TheLastMohican said, at least it's proper typing.

I type 90% of letters with just four fingers, but I can achieve 96wpm with near 100% accuracy.
But why bother? I usually type much slower, unless I'm in a heated argument on AIM and want to punch out words really fast.
Sometimes I practice writing exercises, doing "typewriter style." That is, I try to really think about what I say and write a good small piece of fiction without erasing anything I've written. When I do that, I get maybe 15 wpm.

103 with 99% accuracy. But i was at a party last night and I'm super hungover, and I wasn't really paying attention, and I was watching TV, and I was recently diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Oh yeah, and I have one hand. So it might not be that accurate.

Eh? It's not that uncommon for people to type 100 WPM or more, especially if you do a lot of typing. Keep in mind, when people do get tested for their typing speed, it's typically under ideal conditions, you're paying close attention, trying to maximize your score. I've gotten well into the 130s, after repeated attempts at short passages (30 seconds worth?).

If you want to judge how fast one can type based on personality types, try gathering people based on their personality type with no typing experience (with a similar age, perhaps? can't compare an old lady to an adult) and order them to take the test.

That's kind of my point. Under real world situations, no mere mortal can type at 100 words per minute, especially not for sustained periods, no matter what they're doing. And no, I have no proof of this. :suspicious:
Back when I did data entry my speed was around 75wpm with 98% accuracy and that was under workplace testing and was considered reasonably fast (ePeen: I was always top for speed and accuracy in any team I worked in - over multiple projects and multiple temp agencies - so I was 'competing' with a fairly diverse pool of people). It's a pity data entry is mind-numbingly boring.
I just jumped onto that typing test thingamajig and scored 97 WPM / 97%, and that's at 11pm at night when I'm half asleep. I haven't magically gained 25 words per minute in the several years since I stopped doing data entry, and the focus needed to do that was not sustainable and definitely not a realistic portrayal of my real world speed. If anything, my typing has gone downhill in the last few years, at last accuracy-wise. I blame teh internets.
The problem is that these tests always seem to have their own systems for deciding word counts that can have one app telling you 60wpm and the next telling you 120wpm for the same test. Also, repeating the same test over and over to get better speeds doesn't really make you faster. It just makes you faster at doing that specific test (you may get a slight increase out of general touch-typing practice in the process).
Am I getting carried away with what was a fairly innocent question? Yes, probably. :cheesy:

I got a max 126 wpm and 110 average on facebooks typing application which takes into account accuracy.
the words are also completely random. I usually type faster when the words make sense or I know what I'm going to say but I also usually don't try to type as fast as possible
I love typing with 1 hand or 1 hand with 1 other finger, etc. Maybe that's because I like eating and dislike dirty keyboards..

That's nothing. I had just been caught in a nuclear blast, so I was totally blind and my hands didn't have any skin left. Oh yeah, and I lost most of the right hemisphere of my brain, so...

Hmm. Took the test twice with different texts. Scored 52 wpm with 98% accuracy on one and 72 wpm with 98% accuracy on the other. At least I'm consistent on the accuracy part.
I might do a little better on the speed if I used both feet.
I generally score in the 60-80 wpm range but not that accurate. I'm a programmer so I think that actually hurts my typing since I'm always bending my fingers in weird ways to hit symbol keys. When I just try straight up typing my fingers want to keep tripping over each other.

I type between 60 to 115 with about 89% accuracy. It just depends on what I am typing and if there is anything causing me to be anxious. The more anxious or nervous I am, the worse I type.
I use typeracer (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.)to train my fingers. :)

Heh. But we can go back and correct our mistakes in a heartbeat (when we're not taking the test). We get a lot more efficiency.

Roughly averaging around 115-130 WPM. That's with perfect grammar and spelling and as Antares said, I can also make changes in a heartbeat.

~65wpm with 93% accuracy on that test. I type much faster when I am typing from my head instead of from something I am reading. I am assuming that is the norm? I am just not trained to retype what I am reading from a page, though I do have my fingers trained well in the art of spitting out whatever thought I am forming.

I find with small, consecutive, breif words I can get 100+. As soon as I'm typing larger words I'm less familiar with my typing speed goes down.

I would presume so. Part of the test is how fast you read the text as well.

I usually get around 95-100 WPM and 90-95% accuracy on the tests, using my laptop. I only switched to the Dvorak layout around a year and a half ago though, so I suspect that speed will steadily climb by a small amount over the next few years.

Argh, Mavis Beacon. I had to use that program in grade school, and my typing speed never surpassed 30 WPM using it. I'm convinced that programming and IRC are the most effective typing trainers.
