Hi, I've posted my last poem in some other places and hope you enjoy it here.
The prologue:
I know someone from Britain whose eyes are the most beautiful to me. I feel that they had an effect on me. I'm Arab and have seen many 'coloured' eyes but those British blue eyes are absolutely special and I don't really know why. I didn't see him looking at me much (because he knew that I still can be nervous when I talk to men or when I find a guy staring at me) but I was completely stunned by the way God created his eyes when he rarely directed them to mine! They remind me of nature and make me ponder them as if I am pondering nature and God's beauty and power.
I think I miss his eyes. On Monday, I dreamt of him saying something precious to me. I still can't forget his looks and always feel shy when I remember them!
Even though I'm a little angry at him, I made a poem for his beautiful eyes and their memory. It's written in the local style of poems in Arabian Gulf. 13 stanzas and I wish I could write more. Here is Two British Eyes (Oyoon Britaaniyya):
1. Bil amsik taleetib thikra rageeda
Asarat nu aasiy wl fikri olhiyya
Yesterday I was alone with a sleeping memory. It captured my sleepiness and was something to distract my mind from sleep and every other memory.
2. Thikra li-einin zarga fareeda
Asrat bnafsi fi subhin naqiyya
It was a memory of a unique blue eye which made my soul walk at night in pure glorifications of God.
3. Gaalol kalwa lil ahibba shaheeda
Wana habeebat einin britaaniyya
They said that solitude at night for lovers is a witness of love; so I'm the lover of that British eyes.
4. Shuftaha martein: hazeena wsa-eda
Zurgathal bahar ma yikfi niyya
I saw them twice. I saw them happy and sad.Its blueness is the sea which is frank and spontaneous and never hide a thought.
5. Malatni oyoonah fi nadra waheeda
Wsalni sihraha daniyya wqasiyya
I completely loved his eyes by one look. Their charm reached me whether they were close or far from me.
6. Jameela ka annaha minalli areeda
Kitaab husnah ta ammal tah maliyya
They are beautiful. They are like another book of his beauty to ponder from the one whom I want his love (=God).
7. Haniyya shathiyya rimshaha azeeda
Ka anhal qumoor fin noori mardiyya
I add to that his gentle fragrant eyelashes. And his eyes are like two moons which are satisfied with their light.
8. Laqeetif omri zarqaawatin adeeda
Bas zurgat hal a'ajamiyya gawiyya
I met many blue eyes in my life but the blueness of those non-Arab eyes is strong.
9. Shaafil hayaa alayya ymid eeda
Wfil martein nadaraatah hadiyya
(He didn't look at much because) he saw shyness covers me with its hand. And for me the two looks that he gave me were presents to me.
10. Areedah hina moskotlanda
Mahd gairi ljamal einah rawiyya
I want him here not in Scotland! (No one in Scotland will praise his eyes' blueness) And I'm the only who will praise it and be a narrator of it among people.
11. Areed ashofha lsnwaatin adeeda
Timatta'a wtimdahah oyoonil arabiyya
I want to see them for many years to enjoy and make my Arab eyes praise his eyes.
12. Thikraaha da abat jawwil gaseeda
Wana aktubha wfithat alayya
Their memory played with the atmosphere of this poem when I was writting it. And it made me write it easily.
13. Mdahtaha win kinti sadeeda
Liyyal gaseeda lil mu allaqaati sawiyya.
I praised his eyes in this poem and if I did that fairly, this poem will equal the Hung Poems in my heart.
Note: The Hung Poems are ten. They are the best poems for Arabs in the past and currently. They're called The Hung Poems because Arabs, pre-Islam, hung them on Al-Ka'abah as an honoring for them.
