How about the kind of books that teach us many meaningful ways of living through real/unreal small stories about someone? Does anyone like it?
As I think, because INTJ have an intuitive thinking, they probably appreciate the way authors indirectly present their ideas.
However, I hate that kind because they seems to sermonize readers

I'd read most anything, even dictionary, labels of any kind, bill boards, people's license plates. Bumper stickers (I especially do not like those stickers that trick you: "if you could read this, you're driving too close" and such. Well, if you don't want me to read it, then don't stick it there on your car. Idiot -- I know you guys/gals don't do that!).

So, re: books....Yes. There were books I read and end up not liking them. One example was Dan Brown's DaVinci Code. The story line was intriguing, but the writing itself was blah. One statement that kept repeating that irritated the heck out of me was "the suppression of femininity". WTH.

If the author wants to explain a theory, a clear explanation is better. Or sci-fi, if he wants to show how things could go if something changed. If I didn't misunderstand the OP, that kind of books tend to bear idealised "old way" values, so it's not my kind of book.

Regardless of the author's "agenda," I enjoy reading if it's a story with a subliminal message instead of a message telling a stilted story. I think the reason is that stories with subliminal messages are still stories, and like life, they can have the message the storyteller wants it to have, or you can read other things into it: you can debate the message and see how it really applies. When the writer starts with the message and then tells the story, a box is created, and it's difficult to pull the tale out of its foregone conclusions. I like my mind to roam free.

I generally read just about anything. Although, I tend to read books that have the story set in old times or wolfy stories (Jack London). Juliet Marillier is my favorite author, how she tells the story is amazing and really gets me into it. I have noticed that I gravitate toward celtic-based novels or ones that have a mystery that needs to be solved, and you think you've solved it, but it's totally not what you thought it was at the end. Also those books that have you on edge the entire time, like New Moon by Stephanie Myer. I read that in under 6 hours.

What I don't like to read anymore is romance and vampire stories. I'm rather bored with them. The only ones I can stand are Interview with the Vampire and A Darker Crimson. I'm also running out of books to read that don't have a common theme to them.

I like reading non-fiction (math, music and psychology) and BBC Music Magazines. I have subscribed it for nearly two years. They are great! I used to read National Geographic. Oh, I also subscribe Reader's Digest.
