Heres one that I found interesting. I think it will be a test that people outside of the Americas will score better on. So if you take the test please give your country count and what country you are from.

To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

Dangit! I only got 35... I am from the United States. This might explain why I did so horribly in geography. I probably can't even name all of the states in the U.S. and I sure as heck couldn't tell you where they all are. I have just never been able to care :( Definetly not my top subject!

Albania, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Cuba, Egypt, France, Greece, Haiti, Iceland, India, Iran, Iraq, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Nigeria, North Korea, Pakistan, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, United States

Afghanistan, Algeria, Angola, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belarus, Brazil, Bulgaria, Burma, Canada, Central African Republic, Chad, China, Colombia, Cote d'Ivoire, Cuba, Czech Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Egypt, Federated States of Micronesia, Finland, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Iceland, India, Iran, Iraq, Ireland, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Jordan, Kenya, Latvia, Luxembourg, Madagascar, Marshall Islands, Monaco, Mongolia, Montenegro, Morocco, Mozambique, Nepal, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Niger, Nigeria, North Korea, Norway, Oman, Panama, Paraguay, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Republic of the Congo, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Sierra Leone, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sudan, Syria, Taiwan, Thailand, Trinidad and Tobago, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, Vatican City, Venezuela, Vietnam, Yemen, Zimbabwe

From America also.

I missed a lot of easy ones trying to remember the hard ones. Chile, Israel, Mexico(!), Pakistan, Sweden, France (!!).

I have to admit some of those countries I didn't even know were countries. I could probably study that list and a map for a long time and never get more than maybe 2/3 or so.

The thing is I've heard of a lot of countries and I even know about a lot of countries but I probably wouldn't even be able to point out half of the ones I named on a map.

I almost didn't name any countries of Africa and Eastern Europe, that's not surprising. Most everything else was dark green.

This almost makes me want to get a map and revive my old hobby of knowing all countries and their capitals.

Only 66. I fail miserably at spelling, so I got stuck for 30 seconds trying to get things like the Czech Republic through. *sigh* I know most of Africa, all Asia, all South America, a lot of Europe...but I can't spell any of them.

I got 69 on the first try, and I'm from the US. But I'm a slow typist. I also don't like the fact that they didn't accept "Ivory Coast" from me. Get outta here, you friggin' francophillic bastards. You didn't require me to say "Deutschland" or "Espaņa" or "The United States of America" or "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland." Bastards.

What does "pwning" mean anyways? I have a bet with someone that it means "power owning", which sounds quite impressive in my opinion, though I guess that might have to follow the proper rules of contracting words? p'wning...Internet culture is so confusing sometimes.

Erika Redmark
07-19-2008, 05:37 PM
I think it's supposed to be a typo (P being right next to O on the keyboard, so the etymology is similar to that of "1" or "one" for "!", where the conceit is that the shift key was left off). So the main thing about it is emphasising that it was typed on a computer, since it was typed wrong. I've heard that it meant "powerfully owned" before, but I've also heard that that's a back-formation.

well, I retook it after trying to remember more countries, as stated before I got 81 on first try, I got 109 this time.. (Forgot Afghanistan)... lol, I didn't know the other 85 anyway.. I think the test is flaud in a sense, If you type really fast your potential surpasses others.. It doesn't mean you 'know' more countries, it just means "How fast can you name countries". More of a speed test than everything else.. Some people got much lower but probably knew much more than they got.

I just couldn't think of them one area at a time, it was too chaotic in my head. After the 1st minute, I didn't know which I stated and which I didn't, so I kept restating the same countries.

I'll have to redo it on a clearer mind.

Meh. 68, but I type fairly slowly. I got all of the Americas, except the Caribbean, which I didn't want to deal with if it's timed. I also got all of Northern, Western, and Central Europe, and most of the Mediterranean before time expired.

I'm pretty sure that I could have gotten most, if not all, of them, but it was just really a typing test for me. At 195 countries, you'd need to type nonstop at about 45 words a minute with no errors or time spent thinking. That's really tough.

The sporcle one I did much better (152/195), but am beating myself up for some of the ones that I missed (Russia is a big one).

Heres one that I found interesting. I think it will be a test that people outside of the Americas will score better on. So if you take the test please give your country count and what country you are from.

Many people outside of America aren't native English-speakers, so they could score worse because of it. I've got the average 61, except there were many countries I've tried typing and couldn't get their names right in English (like "Kazakhstan" or "Zaire").

195/195 = 100%

Palau and Fiji were the last ones. I was racking my brain by that time...

Being able to see the lists fill in as you go along is super-helpful.

70 or more
from Czech Republic

quite easy but than it's hard to remember the names, the other way it's easier, to locate a country by name.
Spelling is a problem, I had to write the names in English, interesting would be to write the names in their native language :D I think we all would fail miserably.
Would be nice to have an option of the language, or force to use some foreign language.
There is too many useless countries in Africa and South America, you just can't remember them all, they're not significant nor the countries like islands in ocean.
I know there is around 50 important in world so naming 70+ is enough for me.
The names in south east Europe changed so much in previous years than even I can't remember them correctly and the system wouldn't accept my names though they're correct. And I skipped such small and unimportant ones like Vatican. It's just Italy for me, if it's not clearly visible on map or doesn't have international airport I don't count it.

Xenolar 125, that is insane, with a wikipedia but from memory, wow

My original answer to the question "How many countries can you name in 5 minutes?" was going to be "probably about as many as I can name in 5 seconds." And this is true.

You can name me most geographically inept. I got 23, then stopped. Couldn't figure out how to spell a couple, and couldn't think of any more. Not that I don't know any more--I do, a few--I just couldn't think of them. My brain's not very helpful with this sort of thing. I'm horrible with trivia. Even trivia I know (like 4x7=?).

I scored 103/196 now on the computer, and with my reading glasses... Until I got near 100 it was almost a constant stream of typing for the first 7 minutes, and then I struggled, getting only around a dozen during the last 5 minutes. I did miss a few I'd typed last night though so I could have got a few more.

Since it gives 12 minutes total, and 5/12 = x/133, we could estimate my score around 5 minutes at about 55 countries.

Eastern European countries, central/west African countries, and tiny island countries are my weakness.

Oh and I'm from the U.S.

First of all, I call bullshit that "United States" and "United States of America" wouldn't count and you had to use USA. I wasted time. >.>

But shit, that was awful. There were a few that I was staring at like I KNOW YOU I KNOW YOU and couldn't think of the names. Ended up being Serbia, Bulgaria and Romania. Blast, Eastern Europe. I almost had the whole damn continent, which is more than I can say for any other continent.

ALSO I would've gotten fucking Andorra if the map was bigger. I remembered San Marino, Malta, Vatican City, and Liechtenstein but went and forgot Andorra.

From USA.

I'm gonna try again.
