This was brought up in another thread when we were discussing Mummy and I think it deserves to be fleshed out, so here goes.
Ragnorak The final Battle.
Story line: A viking seeking the wisdom of Odin decides to follow the trial of wow he is tied to the World Tree (Yggdrasil) and pierces himself with his own spear and sacrifices his eye to Odin left to hang, his people leave him for his ordeal for the proscribed 7 days somewhere along this time line a volcano erupts covering his village and himself in ash, to be lost to history.
700 years later a dig discovers the village, the people are dug up the village becomes a treasure trove of Viking lore. One night a group of kids goes to the woods off from the city, and begin a recreation of Yggdrasil ceremony. They invoke the Gods and sacrifice with goats blood, but do not complete the ceremony as no one cares to get strung up for the 7 days, they leave. The blood soaks into the earth the Gods respond and days later the original vikings is resurrected. He now has the power to bring on The Final Battle Ragnorok.
Enter Brendon Frasiers son (BFS): He has been studying at this dig, not wishing to encounter anymore mummies he has gone as far from Egypt as possible and still study. One night while cataloging specimens there is a great disturbance in the camp and the mummies are stolen BFS is called into the university to give his account to the professor a young intern is taking notes as BFS makes a comment about the mummies coming to life the clerk makes a comment, this is where we are introduced to the young Indiana Jones. The two boys hit it off as no one else belives the story of the mummies.
They seek to gather as much info as possible and discover that in order for the Main Viking to bring on Ragnorok, he must now perform his death ceremony so that he can go to Valhalla and be Odins number one soldier in the coming battle against the other gods and the Fates. He has his men he needs his weapons, including the spear that he used to pierce his side, and he will need a bride to take to the other side (use damsel can be BFS girl or YIJ girl)
The Viking attacks the university is fought of by BFS and YIJ they lose the spear and the girl.
YIJ researches for a weapon and discovers a Druid weapon that can do the job, they seek it and win it. (Several narrow escapes).
They return to the site and locate the Tree of life, which is central to the ceremony, it needs to be chopped down to become the vessel that will carry the Vikings to Valhalla. (plenty of action here fights and stuff)
Finally the showdown, the Viking now has his weapons his ship and is about to sacrifice the girl, big storms as power builds. The Druid weapon only works with true love (heart string puller) BFS or YIJ perform the needed ceremony while the other fights and then the girl is rescued the Viking is vanquished and all live happily ever after.
I think this could be a comedic horror, but I'm not a writer so tell me what to do, or better yet you improve it and flesh it out.

I would go with a survival horror flick similar to Cloverfield.
Someone in the wrong place at the wrong time.
But with standard cinematography with handheld camera scenes spliced in. For the more frantic running and confused/struggling camera angles.
Something like a investigation team working their way through a quarantined area picking off stragglers and following a trail of SD memory cards or something similar.
Being a huge HR. Geiger whore, Xenomorphs would be featured heavily.
My big thing though is that the ending is one big loose end.
Did they survive?
Did the world end?
Who knows?

I like horror movies with non-human villains (creatures, viruses, cataclysms) that involve heroism and creativity to overcome. I don't like slash and gore films.
