View Full Version : Bartle Test of Gamer Psychology

Be a part of the largest survey of online gamers!

This is the original Bartle Test, a player personality analyzer that classifies you as an explorer, socializer, killer or achiever. Our data includes over 200,000 of the original responses that Erwin Andreasen recorded between 1996 to 2006. Originally designed for MUD (multi-user dungeon) participants, it remains relavent to new virtual worlds and MMORPGs. Scoring is interesting and entertaining. The original wording of all questions has not been changed except to modernize certain terms such as replacing MUD with the more encompassing MMORPG.

I took this take a long time ago, about 2 years ago maybe. I don't remember what I was classified as. I will take it in a minute and post my results.

I won't play an MMO unless it has pvp. Preferably one where ridiculous schemes and cunning can beat out someone with incredible gear and levels.

(Which is why the only MMO I played for any large period of time was Ultima Online)

Also, I've never played a MMO but I've played all kinds of other games that each have all the various aspects of MMOs individually. Mainly Halo for social, Elder Scrolls for exploration, Final Fantasy for level grinding and monster killing and a whole bunch of other games for achievement.

People with high Killer scores prefer the player-versus-player aspect of any game more than anything offered by the environment. They relish the adrenaline and challenge of pitting themselves against real people. Not all Killers are gankers as some critics claim. Secondary influence:
*Killer Achievers pit themselves against PvE challenges as well--though often it's a means to an end. A KA often enjoys PvP that focuses on their skill as an individual contributor (duels, and so forth) as well as their personal position on competitive ladders and such.

*Killer Explorers like to feel immersed in a virtual worlds and see themselves as a great villain or crusader within that world. They seek out challenges against other players, but they are going to find all the areas of that world. Trust an KE to know all the best ambush spots and sniper perches.

I'd say Killer Explorer fits better than Killer Achiever, overall.

The Explorer motto:

"No stone unturned!"
Description:

It's not so much the wandering around and poking about, but that euphoric eureka moment the Explorer strives for. The joys of discovery do not necessarily involve geography, real or virtual. They may derive from the mental road less traveled, the uncovering of esoteric or hidden knowledge and it's creative application. Explorers make great theory crafters. The most infinitesimal bit of newness can deliver the most delicious zing to an Explorer.

Secondary influences

Explorer Killers enjoy seeing the world, meeting interesting people...and killing them. EKs love all discovery, but finding an edge over the competition is best. Always seeking new opportunity, an EK likely knows the ten best places to find certain types of opponents, as well as ten different ways for taking them down.

Explorer Achievers have been there, done that and have the t-shirt...in fact they have a plethora of t-shirts, badges, trophies and other rewards. EAs are the completionists of the gamer world. They like to find new places, quests, easter eggs, unlocks, maps etc. and check them off as have, visited or beaten. Like real world travelers, EAs enjoy collecting memorabilia that helps them relive their experiences later.
