Nope, sarcasm usually includes an emoticon, typically this one ---->

Besides the two I took out I love the rest, Muse is my favourite band and Modest Mouse's Float On & Radiohead's Creep are two of all time my favourite songs.

Elvis never did anything for me but my parents never listened to him so I didn't grow up with his music.

Haha, wow. I'm always surprised to see this because I didn't think that project was well known. I saw them in Toronto and happen to run a fansite for them. :P

I love a lot of bands and musicians, but have a terribly difficult time introducing myself to new artists and tend to stick more with those I have been listening to for years. Alphabetically:

AFI, Batmobile, Bauhaus, the Birthday Massacre, Bjork, Comeback Kid, Covenant, the Creepshow, the Cure, Death in June, Depeche Mode, the Descendents, Explosions in the Sky, the Faint, Fischerspooner, the Horrorpops, Interpol, Jane's Addiction, Jimmy Eat World, Joy Division, the Knife, Koffin Kats, Mew, Ministry, New Order, Nine Inch Nails, No Doubt, Placebo, Rancid, Razed in Black, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Refused, Sick of it All, Siouxsie and the Banshees, the Sisters of Mercy, the Smiths, Throwdown, Tiger Army, Tsunami Bomb, VNV Nation...

Really a mixture of many different sounds.

There's a lot of bands I like but my favourite is Dead Can Dance - it has a dimension I can't find anywhere else.

I wish I could find other bands that talks to me as much as they do, but so far I haven't. Any suggestions?

I was huge into Metallica pre Black Album.
Metal: Megadeth, Motorhead, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, some Slayer, Sepultura, old Black Sabbath, Ozzy, Testament, Tool, Rob/White Zombie, Anthrax, Laaz Rocket, and I can't believe I almost forgot Pantera.

Classic Rock: Aerosmith, Hendrix, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin (and some of the solo stuff,) CCR, G&R, KISS, Cult, Queen, Rolling Stones, Rush, The Police, Sting, "Uncle Ted" Nugent, The Doors, old Van Halen, and The Who

More modern: Ministry, Type O-, STP, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Primus, Rage Against the Machine, Beck, Korn, and NIN

I also listen to older stuff on occasion. I listen to pretty much everything but Country/Western. My favorite composers are Prokofiev and Wagner.

well from 13 to 20 years old I was into punkrock but these bands are what's left of that era:

- Strung Out, Propagandhi, Good Riddance and Vulgaires Machins

Then I moved to the psytrance scene until 2005 (techno at 145 bpm) like:

- Sirius Isness, astral Projection and Infected Mushroom

through all that time my favorite bands or artist in other styles are: Weezer, NIN, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, The Doors, Simon & Garfunkel, Daft Punk (yeah my nickname is the title of my favorite Daft Punk track).

I also really enjoy classical music but I don't know any composers (except the known ones) and I usually just switch to a random classical radio when I want to listen to that.

Beirut, God is an Astronaut, 65daysofstatic, The Album Leaf, Múm, Mogwai, Ef, Single Cell Orchestra, Explosions in the Sky, Sigur Rós and a few others. If we're also including lone artists, I would also include Sufjan Stevens, Ólafur Arnalds, some soundtrack composers (Klaus Badelt, Howard Shore, Nobuo Uematsu, etc) and various classical musicians. I'm mainly into post-rock, instrumental, electronic, classical, ambient, icelandic, piano solos, soundtrack music, and the like.

Most of what I listen to is drum and bass....but I'll eliminate putting those related to that or any other type of electronic music to keep it along the same general line. That being said...the following are some of my favorite rock groups:

Sonic Youth, Blonde Redhead, UNKLE, Silversun Pickups, pre-rattle and hum U2, Pink Floyd's 1st album, The Doors, Velvet Underground, Led Zeppelin, Circle Jerks, Bad Religion, Social Distortion, Joy Division, Dinosaur Jr., and other bands I don't listen to as much anymore due to the previously mentioned genre that I generally prefer.

I like lots of rock-rooted music, from alternative metal/rock, classic rock, all the way to things like some rap-rock and indie. As long as it isn't too violent and percussive and seems to carry meaning, I'll probably like it. My music tastes are quite varied for that seemingly fettered genre.

Me too. In fact I love all forms of rock so I'm not going to bother listing all my favorite bands because that will take too long. My tastes vary depending on my mood. Sometimes I want to hear something a little angry, or mello, etc.

But for the sake of being contradictory I'd like to list a few rappers that I like, who are not 'retarded'. Very clever acronym btw.

If you say you like rap (Retards Attempting Poetry), I shall point and laugh at you.

Chuck D. has said more in one line than Trent Reznor has his whole career. I dont know what rap you listen to.....but there are some true poets in that genre. Dr. Dre is a better producer than TR also.

This is coming from someone who loved/studied Pretty Hate Machine and Fixed (remix) back in the day.

Have you ever checked out Coil? Their remix on fixed is the best NIN song ever.

I like classical music. I don't suppose the same principles apply to classical music as genres such as rock and metal, since most classical groups don't write their own music. I find I like the works of Romantic composers such as Elgar, Dvořák and Grieg - I find a melodic richness and expressiveness there that can't be found in most Classical or Baroque pieces. Hope this isn't getting off topic.

Classical music aside, I have an immense guilty pleasure for catchy punk-pop - Fall Out Boy, Sugarcult, Fountains of Wayne, Green Day etc. I also like some hard rock and metal - e.g. The Darkness (why did they have to break up?!), Avenged Sevenfold and Atreyu. Hell, I like a whole lot of genres. I tend to steer clear of rap and techno, though.
