Adding to my collection, I'm finding out the hard way that I truly enjoy collecting silver pendants and rings. In specific I like to have full sets (pendant, necklace, earring).
Anyone else collects silver jewelry?
Note: this was part of another thread.. Not sure why it was moved. In any event, feel free to add items you currently collect.

I used to collect postcards and am getting back into it. Also started collecting empty drinks cans.
I also 'collect' random things. Not sure it counts as a collection, because they don't seem to share any common features. Some of them are a Japanese abacus, a Chinese abacus, an old map of a city in INdia, an old map of London, a coffe sack, some wooden elephants and some glasses.

Coin collections are fun. I have a collection of international coins as well as a collection of old American coins. Just recently I looked over 2000 pennies to find old ones. Got one from 1919, 1920, 1942, 1944 and a few older up to 1978. I also keep all the ones I found from 2009 because that is the only year where the background differs outside of the new 2010 background. They only change so often that it warrants collecting them. ;)

Severed heads.
Actually, the only thing I can say I collect is books. When I was little I used to collect other stuff though.
I've got this fear of hoarding.
But I do keep a good number of books and movies.

Specifically in digital format. At current I have over 20,000 pdf books, 50,000 mp3, and about 1800, sci fi Movies and Series.

Well, I'm not into jewelry but I do collect stuffs like:
keychains
paper dolls (I still have 'em)
letters and cards from friends, admirers and lovers (I know what you guys will think, shut up :p)
stationery (I used to but not active now, still keep 'em though)

I don't have many big collections, but I have mini-collections here and there and a few accidental collections (things that could be considered collections, but not out of purposeful collecting). Examples:
-Small river rocks, quartz, crystals, agates. I don't buy them at stores, I collect them as I find them.
-Books, I like to look for 1st editions and old books.
-Seashells and corals (also found, not purchased). I kind of went crazy with this and now have two shoe boxes full of them. Every time I found a type I didn't have, I'd pick it up.
-Vintage kitchenware (around 1930's-60's). I was wary of plastics, so I wanted to buy glassware instead. Turns out I could buy vintage (with better colors and patterns) for cheaper than new and I like they way they look.

I have a lot of books, but I'm not a true collector in the way that some people are. I don't worry much about market prices or about having first editions. If I have a rare edition or something that's valuable, I'm happy with that, and for aesthetic and tactile reasons I do sometimes like to get my hands on out-of-print hardcovers online or in used bookstores. Mostly, though, I'm collecting content.
When I was a kid I had a pocketknife collection and a modest collection of comic books. I still have a few of the pocketknives; some I gave away. I can't say for sure what happened to the comics. Most likely landfilled.

Interesting books and silver coins. There is something satisfying about finding half a roll of silver quarters in a register and knowing they are worth more than their face value as you swap them out for modern currency.

I had a lovely collection of 1970's beer bottles when I was replacing the insulation in the attic and tearing out a few walls. It seems the company that originally built my house had a three drink minimum for its employees :P
About the only thing I could say I collect anymore is stuff I find beachcombing (I usually walk the beach early each morning before the tide comes in). I have a nice collection of sea glass, but those are tougher to find now that I'm back to living on the Gulf side of Florida.
I've really stopped keeping stuff that doesn't have practical use. Even the beachcombing stuff gets handed out to friends who use them in crafts projects.

Postcards and maps. I always get some when I travel. With maps, they become more valuable if they're slightly worn from use during the travel (although half of my collection is mint). I have them in many forms, I have a handkerchief map from MUJI. And a fold map that opens up like a lotus of [certain part of NY] that I like to use as I read to follow the main character of a certain book around.
Edit: HOWEVAR, sometimes I have maps from places I've never been to (not that I lead people to think I've been to those places). :blank:
MP3's. I've spent far more time the past 10 years or so researching, finding, ripping, dowloading, organizing, and tagging, than listening.

I like to collect things - for a while. At some point, I start to look at the collection as something that sits around and doesn't seem to have much of a purpose. At that point, I really lose interest, stop, and usually get rid of the collection shortly thereafter. Over the years, I have collected rocks, coins, stamps, baseball cards, baseballs, and a few other things. I don't collect anything these days.

Now days, I don't collect anything. I sold all my previous collections, kept few of the favorites here and there, but I am done with collecting anything from now on. I prefer to travel light.

As a teenager I started to collect Goofy memorabilia for whatever reason, but then it became a situation where everyone would get me anything Goofy big or small. Then I had a compilation of all this Goofy junk and it was taking over my space. I threw it all out in one fell swoop when I realized there was no point in it.
I now have a general inclination toward sea turtles, but I keep it under wraps otherwise everyone and their neighbor finds me the "perfect" gift. I like them, but I don't need to own ever single one that exists on coffee mug, shot glass, figurine, or t-shirt.
Generally speaking, I am anti-collecting mostly because I grew up in a very cluttered household which subsequently has made me extremely opposed to clutter.
I collect odd rocks, feathers, crystals, fossils, seashells, and other oddities I may find while hiking. I also collect mortar and pedestals.

I started collecting baseball cards in the 80's. 90% are worthless, scrub players but they are all in mint condition. My "prized" pieces are a complete set of Nolan Ryan cards...always had a place in my heart for him, we were from the same town. Other than that, in the future I plan to start a coin collection and a gun collection.

Hello Kitty items. It started as a joke many years ago and now every single present I get is Hello Kitty related. It's a rather large and embarrassing collection. I also collect foreign coins. I don't seek them out but keep them if I find them. It started when I worked at Starbucks and we would often get foreign currency mixed in. I have a nice collection of cameras. A few vintage Polaroids, Cannons and a few randoms. I have about 100 pairs of 7/16" plugs for my ears, and a bunch of random sizes. I would consider that a collection.
Other than that I have a large collection of makeup and nail polish. It's alarming but I can't stop myself.

Same :nice:
I neglected to mention that I do pick up bits of road kill - bones with teeth are interesting and I did pick up a skull near a beaver dam. I should look it up and see if it might actually be a beaver skull. It's about 4.5" long.

Same here. As a child there were things that captured my imagination and sent me into "fits" of collecting anything and everything related to the subject... But after a while I would lose interest and find myself with a bunch of useless trinkets.
In fact, it would be more prudent for me to be posting in a "Do any of you enjoy throwing stuff away?" thread.

Mostly, trading cards. Useful in my other hobby of playing the various games.
Other than that, mostly the programs from various theatre performances I have seen.
Lots of books, but I tend to give away the ones i know I won't reread. I also have quite a few games. Probably enough to call it a collection, but here also, i keep only the games I believe I will play again. Fountain pens. I'm not a pure collector though; as a rule I never buy a pen I'd feel queasy inking, those pen that are only good for a display cabinet (because they're full of diamonds and rubies and whatnot, or are extremely beautiful, must be very carefully handled), not for use. If I can't use it, I won't buy it. Any pen I collect must be able to take abuse. My "good" collection (pens I consider collectible, not my everyday throwaway <$50 pens - No, I'm not that rich. You'd have to be into fountain pens to understand):

It's not a very big collection, but these babies cost money. Lots of it. And I'm only two years into the collection. I'm hopelessly addicted.
I also travel a lot, so I informally collect currencies. I forget to take currencies out after one or two trips and amuse myself with the thought that I have four currencies in my wallet right now and they just surreptitiously got there, without deliberate intervention. I don't go out of my way though, so I will take them out when I remember.
I still collect playing cards from all over the world. When I go to a place or country I find exceptionally memorable, I try to find a set of themed playing card specific to the location. I also collected symphony tickets, bus/subway tickets (from foreign countries) just to remind myself where I've been.
Classical literature as well. If I have room, I will buy any book commonly considered Classic. I also like Classical books. You know, books in Latin and Greek. I would collect them, but they cost a fortune (>$40. And no, this does not make my fountain pen collection contradictory in the least :P)

I used to try to collect things regarding any interest of mine. Books, toys, various collectibles, video games... But lately I have pulled a 180 on all that and I view that frame of mind as something that cheapens my passions.
I really only still have my mammoth vinyl collection, some of my favorite books and movies and that's about it. I actually have been seriously considering dumping my vinyl lately, which would have been sacrilege to me 5 years ago or even 2 years ago perhaps.
I've been looking at it like this, as an example: One of my favorite albums was one I never purchased, Weezer's first record. I never bought the CD when it came out as a teenager and I passed on the few vinyl copies I had a chance to buy over the years. It just never seemed like the right time to buy it even though I loved it, simply a matter of fate.
But now out of all the bands I have loved over the years and been captivated by at various points I can only think of that Weezer record and a couple others that I also do not own that still to this day impact me the way they did when I first heard them as a youngster. Every time Buddy Holly comes on the radio I still crank it and sing along. Every time Say It Ain't So plays it still gives me goose bumps. And god forbid somebody play In the Garage at a party or up at the bar or something because I might start crying.
But all that wax I got in the basement, just sitting there, I can take it or leave it unless I get the odd itch to hear something in particular. I love Judas Priest, I love Nirvana, I love the Melvins, I love Iron Maiden and MANOWAR and Jethro Tull and Black Sabbath and Alice Cooper. But once I had the albums and listened to them over and over and over and gazed at the record sleeve any old time I wanted to they started meaning a little less.
By hoarding all that shit I pulled them down out of the heavens and brought them down to earth. They aren't even down to earth, they're in the fucking basement. Wasted. I took something profound and used it until it was round and plain as a pebble.

Watches.
Current collection:
-Fossil Arkitekt FS2095
-1967 Omega Seamaster Geneve Automatic (Turler signed)
-1950s 17J 10k Gold-Filled Longines Manual
-Seiko SE-SNA799 Chronograph
At the moment I'm saving for an Armida... I might break down and just buy something else, though -- I have the itch for a new watch, and I have always liked the Seiko Skx009... Then again, a used Tag Heuer would do nicely, too. So many choices! I'll just stick it out till I can afford the Armida...=/
(If any of you know a thing about any of these watches, I applaud you)

I collect headphones. I only count nicer ones. Currently have:
Sennheiser: EH-150, CX-680, HD515, HD595, HD600 (my babies)
Koss Portapros
Beyerdynamic DTX 710's
That's all I can think of off the top of my head. No pun intended.

Yup.
So sentimental of me .
I must be INTP.
or ...what's the other cliche 'sentimental/hoarder' MBTI ?
An S probably, right?
Because 'only' S's have any interest in anything even remotely corporeal and material, right?
I am a hoarder. But,it's all organized.
I have a lot of sentimental things and a lot of my childhood objects, including clothes
I have a lot of my old papers and journals and books.
I recently made myself halve my book collection, because it had started to take over.
My dad, who I suspect was an INTP was the same, only very very organized about it with a lot more stuff. And he was very neat and had containers within containers for lots of projects he never finished or that he'd meant to do again for fun but never did.

Here are a few I have out,

I use to collect beer caps and had like 30 different kinds until I decided to throw them away. Now I collect random items to place on my bookshelf such as words of wisdom, interesting 3d puzzles, pieces of art, unique objects of nature. My book shelf is pretty neat looking with all of its random and unique objects lol. I also collect foreign money, and had a stocking full of it hidden up in my drawer. Now it's gone and I don't know where it went! Very upsetting.

books, books and more books. I will buy a book and not read it for a year, then all of a sudden that books becomes relevant to me so I pick it up. It's funny how it works like that.
also lots of scarves to keep warm since I'm usually freezing.
Oil, thought its mostly WTI, some south Texas crude as well. I also have an extensive, and ever growing rock collection.... About 30 still need to be catalogued. Hell, ive surpassed 300 samples last month!

Yes, I very much enjoy collecting things.
I consider my games and systems as somewhat of a collection, I don't ever sell them. Exotic and cultural items. Boats, sloats, nick nacks and petticoats. Just miscellaneous items, really.
Not petticoats nor boats and sloats, however.

Hmm... I forgot to add that I also correct records -- I have about 300 of them. Nothing incredibly rare (mostly classic rock), but I do have the Lynyrd Skynyrd "Street Survivors" album that had the flames on it, but was pulled from shelves after the plane crash. My copy's double sleeved and doesn't have a single scratch or scuff on it anywhere...^_^

For the last few years I have been collecting decorative papers. I started shortly after a friend gave me hand-painted paper from India.
It's an odd thing to collect, I know, but I love the uniqueness of the papers. I have received papers from all of the world and it is definitely incredible to see some of the craftsmanship. Some of my favorites include: Katazome (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. Watches, every time I break up from a significant relationship I buy a watch. The last one cost me two and a half grand, guess it was highly significant.

Glassware because every drink deserves a unique glass. Glassware is a pure expression of aesthetic structure and shape, line and curve, edge and angle. Add liquid for dimensions of light, shadow, and color.
I enjoy working with a glass of [whatever] on my desk late in the afternoon so sunlight streams through the glass and across my desktop, variegated by liquid and dispersed by geometry.

I always seem to have some sort of collection going, but life gets in the way and I either sell the collection, it gets stolen, or I just lose interest.
Over the years, I've collected, more or less chronologically:
Ticket stubs (concerts, movies, events, etc)
Coins
Football cards
Comics
Magic cards
Books (in general)
CDs
Records
Old-school video games
Books (first editions only)
Concert posters of shows I went to
Refrigerator magnets of places I went to
Of all of those things, only the tickets, posters, and magnets survive to this day. Probably because they only have sentimental value to me and zero value otherwise; also, they're fairly easily transported and can double as artwork for a new apartment in a pinch. And they're free or like $2 at the merch table somewhere, so who cares.
One of these days I want to start collecting local art from the places I travel to. But so far I can barely afford the traveling itself, which is the important thing. So that'll have to wait.
It's just occurred to me that I'm now only collecting experiences, which can never be taken away from me. Holy shit.

I read somewhere (maybe in Jung's "Psychology Types" at introverts chapters , or somewhere else) that introverts in general love collecting things.
I collected Yu-Gi-Oh! cards ,posters with bands when I was little and many other things ,but lost them eventually...
Now I collect ear-rings , movie posters, movie dvd-s, anime posters, movie tickets , pens ,books about Japan or written by Japanese authors.

Only things that are meaningful to me. I like to travel, and I collect money from countries I visit. I always try to save at least one example of every common coin and small bill. Other than that and other little things I associate with places I visited or people I knew, I'm not much of a collector/hoarder. I go through my material possessions every now and then and get rid of stuff I don't have a use for.

Asian ceramics. Particularly Siamese, Vietnamese, Malaysian and Chinese.
I study them, and especially adore shipwreck finds. Flawed but so fascinating to study their provenance.

Nothing. When I die my kids aren't going to have anything but empty whiskey bottles to sell for 10 cents a piece.
I spent three years going to dead people's houses and clearing out their estates. I've seen what happens to what people collect. After they croak it goes to auction, because their kids think the shit is stupid, sells for 1/20th of what was originally paid for it by the deceased. Then is bought by a dealer, who takes it to the swap meet and sells it to another collector, and the process starts over. This is only if a lawyer doesn't get involved, if he does he gets it all.
I cringe when people say, " oh, you know about antiques and collectibles, let me show you...."
Two hours later I think, and if you die and I was to come in here and value your estate I would write it down as NCV, " No Commercial Value."
