100% on everything but expert. I got two "wrong": I said it was OK to say "to whoever" or "to whomever", and I never bothered to learn the difference between "farther" and "further" because it's not important. In other words, on the questions about purely prescriptive distinctions that have nothing to do with the current state of the language in common practice, I went "Gah, schoolmarmery, I wonder which one they want me to say" and in those particular cases I guessed wrong. But on the "can you spell stuff, lolz" questions, I was fine. XD

I love grammar! Nothing makes me more excited than reading through Beowulf and picking out the dative and accusative cases!

I also love vocabulary and am currently trying to bring back vocabulation as an alternative to diction. In my opinion, diction is what one uses to write a technical manual. Vocabulation is more poetic (and possibly long-winded :) ).

My first language is British English, so I was nearly caught out by the farther/further one: en_GB doesn't make a distinction and uses further in all cases, so that's what I went for; luckily it was right for American English as well in that case.

I think a couple of those questions have an implied meaning, although a word is missing. In other words, it's a "Guess what I am saying without me saying it". The questions are leading you, but what about non-typical questions?

like, can't speeding in your car cause arousal? hence the answer of risque? or it could be seen as a a warning that speeding is risky. And how old is this test? And the thing about language that irks me is we can pretend that something is "right" or "wrong", but if enough people use it, it becomes right. It's not objective in the true sense.

yes, the further/farther rule: I was taught that farther refers to physical distance, and further refers to progress of some sort. But I guess I was "wrong" in this one. :(

Couldn't get it to score mine, maybe the site doesn't like Foxfire, but I was in doubt about the whomever/whoever question. I'd argue that in modern American English 'whoever' is acceptable or even preferred, with 'whomever,' at least in this sentence being almost in a category with insisting people use 'thee' and 'thou,' in spite of still being 'correct' in high school grammar books. I'd hesitate over it while typing, but in oral speech would not even consider using 'whomever.' I thought it was entirely possible that Shortredhead might take a different view, so I would have missed that one. I can't find a reference on the web, but I first learned of this viewpoint from an account by Brendan Gil of a conversation Eleanor Gould Packard, the legendary grammar arbiter at The New Yorker. I believe William Safire made the same point at least once.

As far as the question testing for people who know a semicolon coordinates clauses and a colon separates them, I guess I'm now a true internet denizen because I 'lolled'. Betcha anything the results for all test-takers on that question was pretty close to random.
