Holy.
Wow.
I just finished this game, it was amazing. It totally consumed the last 3 days of my life, and I don't regret a second of it.
Mass Effect is the definition of a good game.
Amazing.

I loved it too..great story telling :) I alreayd played through 3 times. Mass Effect plans to be a trilogy and the designers are hoping to integrate many of the choices you made in the original carry over into the next games.

If you liked it a lot you might consider trying knights of the old republic 1 and 2 (1 is best). I warn you though, the combat isnt completely real time.

I have it for console I played for about three hours.. I thought it was boring. Big disappointment after all the hype for it. All the rpg elements just aren't my thing.

Now go play KOTOR ThaiGreenTea, it will blow you away even more. (The graphics might be slightly outdated compared to ME, but the game itself is even better.)

I loved all the RPG elements in ME, but the shooter elements weren't that good. No target lock, enemies were waaay to small to see, enemy and party member AI was retarded, you couldn't even swap party members such as advertised in a gameplay demo from a year before release! The select feats/powers wheel didn't work well either, you had to bring it up every time you wanted to use a power (no button binds on the controller) which slowed down your reaction time a lot.

Because of the above, the combat wasn't at all exciting. I want to run, jump, evade, rush in, use special combo attacks to defeat an enemy. Not shoot at it from 30 yards away, hoping a laser bullet hits the target, because non of the other combat feats work to the players advantage.

I realise a lot of this could have been fixed in the PC version, but I don't now about that, only played the 360 version. I'd love to replay it on PC if the problems listed above are solved on that platform. =)

Ah, I regret to announce I played and finished KOTOR I, and got about halfway through KOTOR II.

KOTOR I was awesome as well!

3 days???
Did you dig into the side missions?
Took me at least 3 weeks, playing for about 2-3hrs a night, 6hrs on weekends. But then again I tend to dawdle.

But I was extremely disappointed with the Sex scene........I was looking forward to it.......

I beat the game in 14 hours play time and saw no sex scene? The story line kept saying "hurry hurry, youve got to beat him there" "theres not much time!" blah blah blah so I didn't spend much time exploring every corner of the universe. I did do every mission everywhere I went though since I figured if there was some sort of time measurement it was probably based around how many places I hopped too.

I didn't have any of those problems. It's an action/RPG, not an action game, so obviously your characters aren't going to be natural-born killers right away. You have to actually use strategy and utilize available cover in order to do well, instead of just rushing in guns blazing like Rambo.

Yeah, I managed to tune out the braying "hurry hurry" speeches. I didnt figure there was any time sensitivity in the game regarding the main story.

I went all out trying to get the most upgraded arms and armor, plus collecting all the random mineral deposits and special items. there were some very cool story elements to be found.
PLus it was fun completely maxing out my and my party members attributes.

No Sex scene?
Did you have the blue girl in your party? Niala (i think)
If you had her and you didnt play the game entirely using the aggressive plot and dialogue options you would get to do the nasty just before the 2nd to last battle.
But the scene was a letdown.....Ive seen better sex scenes in scifi channel tv movies...........

I didnt mind it, it got a fair bit harder on the high skill settings. But i didnt find it all that great.

Story could of been a bit better, the story missions we're ok, but i find the side missions too short.

Overall not bad, but it got boring after the 2nd time through.

Also you can get romances with the human male (if your female) and the human or asari female (if your male).

I found the graphics to be fairly good at the very least however.

Personally im waiting for WAR, Spore, The next STALKER, fallout 3, starcraft 2 and of course DIABLO 3, oh yeah.

Alot of hardcore fans are stuck in the past though. Games change and evolve in later versions other wise people would get very bored of them quickly....

Core elements need to stay the same to be called a sequel and the fear that a turned based tactical squad game set in the Fallout universe, will become a first person shooter/action, (more akin to the Arena series) set in the Fallout universe is legitamte. People are also scared the story and the roleplaying will not be as rich as the originial. People will also site Bethseda did a pretty sucky job with Star Trek Legacy.

Change is fine, the heart has to stay the same..otherwise it does not deserve to be considered a sequal.

Yeah, I agree. They complain about pretty much everything, from it being in 3d, to it not being fully turn-based. I'm looking forward to the changes, it will make it that much more immersive, I just hope that the dark-humor and overall 'feel' stay the same, and that the story is good.

Gameplay would be an important issue for me, if they managed to keep the tactical elements while changing it into an FPS that would rock. Maybe something similar to the squad control of Tom Clancy's advanced warfighter.

But the most important thing is the story and the fleshing out of the Fallout world. if they spent as much time and effort with the side missions and easter eggs as they did with F2, i would squeal like a little girl.

Does anyone know where I can find the funny little cartoons they had with the fallout guy? The 1930'esque propaganda cartoons, or the cartoons they did for the Character development/skills interface?

I really want to add some of those to my tattoos.....

partially because of this thread I've restarted another career in mass effect.

This time going for a soldier main character, with Garrus, and I'm trying to figure out the third party member.....
"who I hate less Kaidan or Kailly...."

Its certainly alot more fun now that I know the basic plot tree points.
Lets just say that all hostage negotiations end with a bullet from Barjack Sheppard!

I'm having trouble getting the Asari Ally achievement (where you have to play the majority of the game with Liara). As soon as I can leave the Citadel, I go get her, and do everything else in the game with her in my party, and yet it doesn't give me the achievement, even playing through the entire campaign. Any ideas why this is happening?

Have to wait a bit, the Chinese Govt is still blocking wikipedia since the riots.

Eric,
When you were playing the game, during the dialogues, were you using the "nice" conversational options? Or the aggressive ones?
Dont quote me on this, but I think that has an effect.

the same thing happened to me with Garrus last time I played through. Even after using him for every mission I still didnt get it.
I figure it was because he was my whipping boy when anything went wrong.

Ex.
1. Failed decryption!
2. Attach grenade to Garrus's forehead, reach safe distance.
3. Scream at the television about the numerous ways that it was his fault.
4. Detonate grenade

There is a KOTOR2 Restoration beta leak on the pirate bay website that has restored a lot of the cut/unfinished content. I don't know if we're allowed to post torrent links here, so I'll just tell you to look for it yourself ;)

I thought it was fantastic overall.

Only complaints i had were a lack of larger cities and more fleshed out plot planets, and somewhat repetitive side quests. They couldv'e at least not reused the same 3 interiors over and over. But these are minor complaints and i'm sure they will fix them in the sequel. The game has it where it counts though: story, dialogue, immersion, combat etc.
