View Full Version : Which back pocket do you leave your wallet in?

So one day a friend pointed out to me that I was a freak because I am right-handed but keep my wallet in my left back pocket. Sure enough, most people I saw kept their wallet in the right back pocket. But as for any INTJ, I had a reason for keeping it in the left back pocket: I like to grab money/cards with my dominant hand. If the wallet is in my right back pocket, I have to flip the wallet to my left hand to grab money with the right. If it's in my left pocket, I avoid the flip. It's faster and more streamlined. I even explain it to people but they don't change. Ridiculous I know, but we are the way we are. So, what do you do? What are your reasons? Have you even thought about it?
HAHAHA! Anyway I feel more "secure" with my wallet on my dominant side(right). I feel it is less likely to fall from the pocket/etc. So yes I have to flip my wallet hand to hand, but its not a big deal for me. And I hardly ever use cash.

Yeah, you don't need that. That's a real nuisance. :p
I keep mine on the right. I'm very regimented about what goes into which of my pockets.

Is it so unusual to keep one's wallet in the front pocket?
For what it's worth, I do keep my wallet in my right-front pocket, and I am right-handed. I guess I might be paranoid about pickpockets...

Even then, if someone were to grab at my wallet, I would want to grab their hand with my non-dominant hand and hit them with my dominant hand.

I'm left-handed (of course), but I keep my wallet in my right back pocket. I don't know why; never really thought about it.

I never thought about that before, but I would also prefer to strike with my dominant hand. In that situation, however, I would then have to reach across to strike. I would probably apply a painful lock to the light fingers instead; that would often be more effective.

And the dominant-hand side wins. ;D

Not necessarily! I do Taekwondo, so I'm probably better off striking than feebly attempting a joint lock.

I keep my wallet in my right SIDE pocket, so that I dont get the weird feeling of sitting on it (since it is big from moneys, HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! *ahem*). Plus it is less likely to be stolen in that spot~

I usually keep my wallet in a purse or bag or something, but when I don't want to carry anything around, I put it in my pocket, especially if I'm wearing a pair of pants where the back pockets button, so it won't fall out. I always put it on the right…I don't know why, but I do put it on the same side every time. I'm left-handed.

If Tae Kwon Do is your area of expertise, wouldn't it be easiest of all to execute a swift side-crescent kick, leaving your hands free?

Likely it would be too close range since a pick pocket would probably bump into me to get the wallet. My instinct also is still to just grab. Also, I don't want my wallet flying off into the crowd. I also don't want them to run away after I kick them if I don't execute well. Honestly your joint lock is probably the best way to go regardless.

Only if you know how to perform it; otherwise it can be the most dangerous, especially if the pickpocket manages to apply a lock to you instead. Tae Kwon Do does not teach joint locks as far as I know (I reached brown belt level).
Really though, in a crowded place all you have to do is attract attention. Now I will try to refrain from further derailing the thread...:embarassed:

I was once stolen my wallet, wich was mostly empty. I knew I was going in a difficult area where this would have been likely so in my wallet I had only the money for small transactions, the real cash being hidden.

I put mine in my right side pocket, i'm right handed, but my left is taken by my Ipod, and putting anything else in that pocket would mean I wouldn't be able to change songs by pressing the buttons through my pants. I can't put my Ipod in my right because it's more likely to get damaged when I carry boxes at work as I rest them on my right or push with my right.

I'm left-handed, and i put my wallet either in my back-left or front-left pocket. At the moment, I believe it's wallet in the front-left, and walletless cash in the back-left (I've never thought about this before though, good one ).

I leave my wallet in my bag ofcourse. Try fitting a wallet in the pockets of womans pants/jeans, good luck with that.
In a suit I keep it on the inside left breast pocket, in casual wear the front right pocket of the trousers. This is the swing angle of the arm. Its too easy to have it pop out of a back pocket and not notice and why would you want to sit on a wallet as fat as mine :)
I have a process with my pockets.
Left-Front - Cell phone. Rarely a secondary or tertiary pocket knife is clipped in this pocket.
Right-Front - Money/Cards held with binder clip. A pen and my primary pocket knife (or knives) is always clipped in this pocket.
Left-Rear - iPod (if I carry it).
Right-Rear - Keys.
If I sit for very long, the keys go up on the desk, a table, or in the ignition switch. The iPod does a similar moving process. In high-pickpocket-danger areas, the iPod is always in use or placed in a large carry bag, like my laptop bag...

I am a woman who hates purses and doesn't use a wallet. Here is my process:
If I am running errands around town, my keys hang from my right front pocket, and my cell phone case clips to my left front pocket. My phone, license, and cash are inside the case.
If I choose not to bring my phone case, I put my phone and license in my left front pocket, my keys dangle from my right front pocket, and I cannot quite remember where I put my cash. If I intend to spend, I suppose it is in the right. If not, it stays in the left.
Nothing ever goes in my back pockets, except for my license occasionally. I am paranoid of people stealing from me.
I wear shirts that hang over my pockets, too (the wonderful thing about living in San Diego is that my normal casual clothing is perfectly acceptable in business environments here), so it's much more difficult for pickpockets. We also have large western personal space zones here, which is helpful.

Right handed here (well, mostly). Wallet is in the left front pocket. On my first trip to Europe as a teenager, I was told to always keep your wallet in a front pocket, as they are usually deeper and less accessible to pick-pockets. Its been there ever since.

I don't really carry a wallet per say, I use a small holder for cards and license with a money clip attached. It is always in my front left pocket.
I never could understand the need for a large bulky wallet to sit on.

I keep it on my left side, I grab it with my left hand so I can have my right hand free to point my gun to anyone.
Seriously, I'm right handed and keep the wallet on my left side. I'm also a lot better playing baseball as a lefty. My experience with the guitar is weird... I have different abilities with both hands pretty unusual as other people.
And... I know a few guys keeping their wallets on their front pocket..

I keep my wallet in my upper right front pocket. Not because it's easier for me to suddenly check that it's still in my pocket because I'm afraid I lost it somewhere, although that does play a part. The reason is because I never really used the back pocket of any of my pants, only two or three of them have secure back pockets, so it never occurs to me that my pants have back pockets. I should use them more though.

Depends on how I carry my sidearm that day, I keep my wallet well clear of my pistol. I carry concealed, so I put my wallet somewhere I wont expose my pistol, or spare magazines when I reach for it (my wallet).
If I am not armed (a rarity) It goes in my right rear..
If I am wearing a underarm holster, It is in my right rear pocket.
If I am wearing shorts, with a Tee shirt, or other light shirt, with my .45 stashed in the small of my back, it will be in my right front pocket.
Their is an exception to this rule, and that is when I carry my Makarov pistol. It is much smaller than the full size 1911 .45 that I carry normally, I actually carry it in my front pocket, BEHIND my wallet.
That is my "Hot weather summer" gun, I can be barefoot, with no shirt on, walking on the beach, in swimming trunks and my family will still be well protected, with that little Soviet pistol.
I don't really carry a wallet per say, I use a small holder for cards and license with a money clip attached. It is always in my front left pocket.

I as well only carry a money clip. The few cards I carry rest in the center of the money fold. It rides (always) in my right front pocket.
Also, every pocket has a specific designation -- it makes it easier when I'm getting ready to leave someplace.

Wallet goes in the front left pocket.
Cell phone and pocket knife go in the front right pocket
And that is how I go everywhere. I hate sitting on my posessions, never use the back pockets for anything unless I'm going to be standing the whole time it is pocekted.
Oh yes, I don't use a wallet. Cash is wrapped around cards and the whole thing is clipped together with a binder clip, which is better than a money clip. No one has yet made a money clip as intelligent or light as a binder clip.
Once I start a company for my most viable product and make some money, I'll probably design and market the ultimate money clip. Until then, I will use the current pinnacle of clipping technology - the binder clip.

My back used to bother me for years. I kept my wallet in my back left pocket, I'm right handed. Then I moved it to my front left pocket and my back hasn't bothered me like it used to since.

Right-handed, left-front pocket. Left holds and right controls.

I'm right-handed and I keep my wallet in my right back pocket. I tried keeping it in my front pocket for a while because I heard it was better for thwarting pickpockets, as a few have already pointed out in this thread. It felt awkward and after a while, I just went back to putting it in my back pocket. There really isn't a problem with pickpockets where I live anyway. Besides, being nearly 100% introvert, I tend to notice when someone gets close enough to pick my pocket anyway. I'd definitely notice a bump to my wallet area and immediately reach around to see if my wallet was still where I left it. Now that I've said all that, I'll probably have my pocket picked clean really soon.

I put my wallet in my front pocket. Easier fit and it's more comfortable to sit down that way. Oh, and I never keep money in my wallet.
