View Full Version : Music that speaks to your type

I got an idea last night as I was falling asleep...
Post a link to a piece of music that has spoken deeply to you, and you feel would speak well to your type. Vocal works are certainly fine, but if you can find instrumental, go for it!
mine:
For INTPs/INTJs, who love dark things and contemplation... here a piano work by Maurice Ravel:

Probably the darkest / most thought-provoking piano piece I've ever heard. Not the best version, but the pianist is stellar.

Last Kiss by Pearl Jam. The guy I was going to marry died in a car accident. I get teary-eyed every time I hear this song...

That Ravel is awesome–it reminds me of Debussy's Sunken Cathedral.
I like basically anything by Mahler (the first 4 symphonies, Das Lied von der Erde, and Songs of a Wayfarer particularly speak to me), although I suspect that he was personally a feeler…most likely INFP, or maybe INFJ.
Of pieces I've played: Poem for Flute and Orchestra by Griffes. It's alternately dreamy, dark, fiery, and calm, to extremes. I love it. ^_^ (I found a pretty good video of it on youtube: To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.)

Hey that was a good one! Thanks for sharing. Do you listen to Andrea Bocelli? His E Sara' A Settembre is one of my favorites:

So many possibilities...
I'll suggest Muse, their music takes me to another place: Bliss (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. It's heavy/loud rock with a classical influence, plus there are a lot of links with space - that's my INTJ suggestion ;)

Spine tingling...hmmm there are several for me. When I initially heard this first track, it was almost a religious moment for me for some reason. I like the slow semi acoustic bassline, and the singing in particular. It speaks to my INFJ shadow. (Best with some decent headphones and the original audio instead of the overly compressed youtube encoding)
"Beaches and Deserts" by "A guy called Gerald".

Also very INTJ in my opinion are "The Gift" by "Annie Lenox", "Original" by "Leftfield", and "Walking Wounded" by "Everything but the girl - Omni Trio Remix", "Waiting" by "Nat Monday" on the Deepdish compilation,The original of "Your not alone" by "ATB", "Dark Days" by"Fat Freddys Drop", Last but not least by any means, would be "Walk a mile in my shoes" by "Coldcut".

One of the most expressive and contemporary musicians of our time is Andreas Vollenweider. His music literally "sings" in my heart and mind. I find I do my best thinking listening to AV, his music energises me.
I'm adding a montage videoclip, so that those of you who don't know his work get a general idea of what he's like. I hope some of you will explore this man and his work further.

Something that touches me in a different way:
Metallica - Fuel (from S&M, with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra) (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.)
This song blows the regular version away. I will drop everything when I hear this song, it pumps me up like nothing else. The lyrics don't need to be interpreted too literally, they are just great to sing along with. The whole album with the orchestral backing is just beautiful. Give it a listen.
Hilltop Hoods - Roll On Up (acoustic w/ backing) (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.)
This really strikes a chord with me, its Australian hip-hop at its finest. Saw these guys live and they were AMAZING. The way the song is done in this video is just top-notch.
Jason Mraz - The Remedy (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.)
A line I think everyone needs to sing along with once in a while- "I won't worry my life away..." ;)
It's the dude in my avatar, I love him. This is my favourite song.

Burzum is about the intuition and this song is a good reflection of the beyond while also having a huge disdain for the church.

Here, I am suggesting music that does not speak for my type: Tchaikovsky's.
I used to like Tchaikovsky during my intro stage to classical music; but I find it hard to bear Tchaikovsky's music (maybe not the First and the Second symphonies though) in general. I find it to be uber-sentimental, which evokes an image of swooning sentiments. It's hard for me to withstand listening to his music.
Brahms and Mahler speak for my type: serious, detached yet emotionally intense, with a schizophrenic streak. Mahler was a bit of schizophrenic. Brahms's music sounds like a serious Classical music, but in it there is vivid, strong emotion. Brahms is awesome.
Anyone who loves Brahms's music think of joining the American Brahms Society (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.). Membership fee goes for good purposes. :)
