This seems like the appropriate forum!

As an engineer, I like seeing how things work, but I also like to design things and build them. I also like owning miniature versions of things. I got into model building about 6 or 7 years ago and I love building models. I build mainly ships, but I like the distraction of armor (tanks) and planes.

Some of my visual art also moves- I am motorizing all of my 1/350 scale ships. This is what I do to keep myself occupied and out ot trouble! Model building takes patience, dedication, concentration, and a HUGE knack for detail. Model building is all about fun though- no one model is perfect, and when fun is my #1 priority- quality falls into line. Ask me if you have any questions!

Still adding final touches to a few pieces.

Wow, those are excellent. I tried to get into model building as a hobby some years ago, but it never worked out for me; I got bored and needed to find something new to do.

Awesome. I've got a few model aeroplanes. The fourth one I'm building is a 1:72 Boeing Stratofortress. At the moment it's stuck in a half build situation, the room I put it in is cold plus I stopped long enough ago that I need to remix all the paints.

Also, my dad was building model boats, and with too much detail. I think the last one he worked on was a 1:60 model of the HMS Endeavour. Small enough that tying all the knots on the rope work is a real bastard.

And a question: How do you paint your models? Do you use a brush or an airbrush? Because whenever I paint with a brush it starts to clog up and methylated spirits don't seem to have much effect on the paint.

Neither. I will typically spraypaint large areas (I recommend airbrush) and I brush smaller areas, but with acrylics. I like testors, humbrol, and especially Pollyscale.Floquil.
