Paraskavedekatriphobia, is the fear of the number 13.

Throughout history man has found the number 13 mystical and sometimes fearful.

You find it in Norse mythology to the Knights Templar.

From the Sacred Geometry to the Fibonaci numbers.

The last supper to U.S. money.

Witches have used in in rites that invite the Devil as the 13th guest.

Irrational fear abounds, is it a day in the week? or is it something to fear? How about those fortunate Graduates today, will they be considered lucky as a person being born on Friday the 13th? or will this be a bad Oman laying a foundation for the rest of their life?

Or is it all Hogwash? Do you have a fear of the 13th day when it falls on a Friday?

Makes no difference to me but I laugh to myself at others' paranoia. On a related note, Friday the thirteenth may be statistically safer than other days.

Same here. ._. Most people I know aren't bothered by it anyway.

Strangely, Friday the 13th has always been a good day for me. My husband and I even got married on a 13th so that we'd have anniversaries fall on Friday the 13th.

I actually like to think of it as payday because that's what today is for me. I don't get into the superstitious stuff.

13 has to do with adding up to 4 which is considered to be a very unlucky number. What Friday has to do with it I'm unaware of. Has someone already given an explanation of why Friday 13 is so powerful to the paranoid?

Hmmmm. That could be an interesting Google topic. I suspected religion would rear its head somewhere.....thanks.

its the luckiest day of the year

and its also payday for me too, and i got paid by both jobs today, and i even got my backpay from October by updating my Page 2 today

yesterday, i'm counting quarters for gas... today, i'm powerpaying bills

backpay - what the government owed me from sometime last year

Page 2 - dependence paperwork done for every service member for emergencies and recall

(i figured there would be some questions about these military terms, but i don't know what else to use...

In Italy 13 is considered a lucky number and 17 a bad omen (17 = XVII => VIXI, latin for "I lived" and if I lived now I don't live anymore hence I'm dead).

Just find a number and a creative enough person will find a way to turn it into a bad omen.

Friday the 13th doesn't bother me. I enjoy horror flicks, and in that respect I like Friday the 13th in that it may have helped inspire directors of that genre. If there were any day I would dread it would probably be Monday the 1st. This is because I have bills due by the 1st and Mondays are the mornings of the week, and I'm not a morning person :dozey:

Are you talking in the Asian perspective? In Chinese (and in Korean as well), 4 is pronounced as same as the Chinese character meaning death (死).

I don't like the number 13, not because I'm superstitious but because I don't like odd number. Nothing religious or anything, I just think odd numbers are annoying.

I only like odd numbers in patterns or groups. For example, if we used a 13th month calendar and today was 13-13-2013, that would be frickin' awesome.

Yes, exactly. Numerology is so interesting and on inauspicious days we'd all best stay in, read books and make lots of tea. These days are personal but avoid no.4 if you can. That'll be 4, 13, 22 and 31 in any month offering the complement of these days/

I have no idea why but I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of 08-08-08. I actually have it highlighted on my calendar. I don't know what I think is gonna happen, probably nothing, but it's kind of exciting anyway.

Maybe I should be watching the clock too. That way I can anticipate 08-08-08, 8:08 am & pm. Mmmmm....
