I realized... that we don't have a favorite experiment thread running in Science and Health. And I think that's just... unacceptable.

I'm going to start off with oobleck. 1.5 parts cornstarch to 1 part water.

A video of only part of the properties of non-Newtonian fluids: To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

This thread can include *all kinds of experiments* in any branch of science.

I like reacting NaCl with H2O.

Another fun one is IRL trolling.

All NaCl does with water is dissociate into ions. Not a very exciting reaction. :p

I assume you meant elemental sodium plus water which is a violent reaction. If you want to have some fun elemental potassium reacts with water even more violently than sodium.

Someone in my organic chemistry class forgot to have the prof dispose of the potassium properly or didn't do something, I can't quite remember, anyway...So he went to the sink. Washed out his glassware (which probably had *very* minute concentrations of potassium in it) and BOOM! Singed his eyebrows...

Any of the alkali metals are fun reactions with water...but I think that potassium's the most reactive that's easiest to obtain and use because the others are *SO* violent when reacted with water. And you have to store the potassium *completely* dry.

It may not be exciting, but it's cheap!

That is what I meant. Rofl.

Mentos in Diet Coke (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.) is nice and cheap too.

Humorous version. (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.)

Cesium= *BOOM* (laboratory gets destroyed)

I would actually prefer the reaction between francium and water. I always wanted to see it at some point.
