As a chronically bored individual, I'm interested in what other INTJs do in their spare time. The only things I do now that could even pass as a hobby are weightlifting and running. But I see that as more of a health/fitness thing than hobby.

I've considered badminton, golf, hiking, woodworking, robotics/programming, chess, language learning, and traveling. Things like golf, robotics, and travel are obviously pretty expensive, so they're not very practical for someone without a whole lot of money to spare.

I'm not one for team sports and I'm not very creative/artistic either. I just feel unfulfilled without a "passion." The closest things to that would be music (which I love listening to, but I think drums would be the only instrument I could play, and they cost a lot) and travel. Any recommendations?

Badminton is really fun and cheap. Depending on where you live you can practice it on different levels, a lot of badminton clubs don't play very competitively, laugh and chitter chatter all the time and are not good at it.

But for a passion you have to do it? I mean, you say music, but the problem is "you would only play drums"... who said something about "doing"? Your hobby can be to listen music.... lots of music... you don't have to play it... do you?

It sounds more like you are looking for an "activity".... not just for a hobby.... or am I getting the idea wrong??

My usual hobbies include taking long walks outside along the river, and reading up on my favorite Economics blogs, news and books, with a few philosophical works thrown in. Oh, and 3d modelilng (which I haven't done in months, but mean to get back into again soon).

A very valuable but dying art that I do is jewelry making: from casting metals, wire wrapping, cabochons, stone faceting, gem identification, and beading. To me, the knowledge I learned from this practice is absolutely priceless.

Well do you count videogames as a hobby? Thousands of those to choose from. If you enjoy programming why not make your own?

Music is a good relaxing hobby. Most any instrument requires skill that you can learn throughout your life. As far as cheapest I would say keyboard(piano) or an acoustic guitar. Drums are a bit more pricey but not much easier to learn. Everything has a learning curve.

If youre looking for a practical hobby, I say learn something you can enjoy and make a profit from. Learn to craft something imo. Easier said than done though.

i buy stuff mostly, been looking into watches, art, been fiddling with a place outside the city, dogs.

other stuff i'd like to learn: french, paint, maybe to sing, ballroom dance, and most definitely to cook well.

the painting would seem embarrassing as a 12 year old paints better than me.

I ride horses. I have been riding for almost twenty years.I find being on the back of a horse to be soothing. I enjoy rides across the meadows and the schooling in the arena. It is challenging. It is not for the faint of heart. But when you are riding through the woods and actually get to walk up on a deer( because you sould like another animal when riding a horse) there is just somthing magical. Its like this moment was created just for you. you just sit there and absorb all the positive energy flowing around you. Its Clarifing. and Clensing. and Invigorating. Horses will always be my "hobby,sport,bad-habit) My other hobby is driving. I like to drive. I can spen a couple hours just driving.

Gaming, playing board games, reading.
I also greatly enjoy free climbing, when I was a child I usually scared my mom because she's deathly afraid of heights.

Analyzing systems and devising strategies!

Just kidding.

Usually reading, surfing the web, researching useless information, playing chess/go/scrabble on the internet, biking, cleaning my room, listening to music, etc.

I enjoy Rollercoaster Tycoon3, Bioshock and Need for Speed Shift, but it's hard to break away from my desire to do something important, or stop thinking about the nature of all things. I have a new telescope. I have too many interests and too little time, but can't seem to prioritise and narrow it down to a specialty. I have a very strong desire to burn all my books and just study music all day. I have 15 or 20 stringed instruments.

My hobbies... playing video games and putting thousands upon thousands of rounds through the guns... I shoot all day [if only I had that much money] and then sleep with it all night. Sometimes, when I'm feeling especially scandalous, I'll sleep with two guns. [tears of joy roll down Social Torture's face] It's so beautiful

Doesn't anyone play disc golf here? You heave around a Frisbee(a specially designed one of course) while essentially going on a nature walk through the park. Best of all, it's usually free because the disc golf courses are inside of parks. You just have to buy the discs, ~$15 a piece.

Some time ago I promised myself I'd learn a new hobby/craft/skill/art every summer (since I had a lot of trouble getting through the summer). If you just make an effort to learn things they can start appearing, but you often have to actively look.

Right now the ones I'm practising...
I picked up drums and flute recently (someone said drums is way harder than flute, and I didn't believe them). Flute I inherited, and drums I rent for around 30-50 bucks a month. Not a terrible price.

Drawing, really relaxing. I'm not very creative, but drawing through observation is very meditative so can help sort things out inside your head. Maybe try "Drawing on the right side of the brain" if your interested. It also has an interesting chapter on some of the psychology and human mechanisms behind drawing

Bartending. Who doesn't like a nice drink to sip at the end of a hard day.

Ton of other things, but some of the ones mentioned above too, I just don't think of climbing, jogging, biking etc as a hobby.

What the fuck is boredom?

Just do ANY random thing, and love the shit out of it. There isn't anything that is boring. It's all in your head, just push through that shit. My god, it's incomprehensible.

I do some of that. I agree it's nice to get out and throw something around provided you don't end up spending more time looking for the thing than you do playing lol.

I also make music on my computer, occasionally play board games with friends, read and write, and have been meaning to learn a language or two more.

Yeah.... It's actually not that hard to get bored. A year of unemployment (and staying indoors for the trailing 3 months) did it for me. The side effects lasted for another five months.. It's hard to recover from boredom!

I get bored doing just one thing for a long time, or maybe my brain gets tired. I like to mix it up every day - some physical activity, some working with my hands and some mental stimulation.

So I go out for a walk every day, I am always reading a couple of books at once, and I like to work with fabrics.

Feeling good in your body will enhance you enjoyment of everything else you do.

I remember that feeling. Just pick something you think you'd probably like to do or always wanted to do and do it. I went with language learning, despite previous attempts at language learning being a miserable failure. I really wanted to learn another language. Almost three years later and I'm still doing it and it's very fulfilling.

I love survival tactics, so I read a lot of that. Used to utilize it practically too, but last 5 years or so I've been too busy working and such.

I'm a gamer as well, so I spend a great deal of time with my PC-games.

Lastly I'm a DM for the Swedish RP called EON. Our gametime is the time I look forward to most during the week. Always fun, always worth it.

I like collecting coins, cooking and I'm a huge jazz fan.

Two of my more interesting coins are my 1878 7 over 8 feather morgan silver dollar, and my Space shuttle coin commemorating the first recovery of two satellites by the Discovery space shuttle.

I would absolutely love to start playing the violin again, but I have to get one first.

Mine are mostly creative. Painting, drawing, photography that sort of thing. I read a lot. I used to be big into coding and graphic design but that's died out mainly from working in front of a computer 8 hours a day. That took all the fun out of that one. Gardening is also a big hobby of mine.

I used to do lots of hiking and backpacking. Now that I'm out of college, I plan to get back into that. I also plan to get back into cross-country skiing when the snow flies.

Fly fishing was another hobby I picked up about 5 years ago, but put aside when I started school. It's an artful activity and takes a little more strategy than spin fishing. Going to pick that one back up as well this summer. Actually, since my usual hiking/backpacking destinations are sub-alpine lakes, that's where I'll be doing most of my fly fishing again.

Of course, the big bonus for me is that I live in an area of the country with lots of mountainous wilderness which easily facilitates these activities.

Bike riding is a great hobby! I ride every weekend and can go a lot farther than just walking. It's a great way to clear your mind as well.

I am a huge fan of dance and have taught myself many things. They have swing and salsa dances in the city for pretty cheap.

I also smoke cigars, do modeling, and play billiards.

I was thinking recently of taking up fire poi.

I have dabbled in many other things here and there including sculpting, painting, movie making/editing, and singing. I like to try new things just to mix it all up.

I am hyperactive so I have a long list of hobbies; hiking, camping, primitive wilderness skills, herbology, gardening, cooking, wildcrafting, beading, martial arts, leather craft, genealogy, crabbing, boating, fishing, hunting, swimming, canoeing, and reading. I am currently attempting to learn a language, learn how to draw (mostly plants), and blog (which I hate so far).

Not enough hours in the day...:handshake:

"Boredom" is an alien concept for me.

At present, health hindrances limit me to: knitting, patchwork, dollmaking, crochet, digital art, cardmaking (all of which are usually accompanied by listening to music, mostly classical), birdwatching, playing with my rabbit.

In the past, additionally, I used to love to: swim, cycle, hike, cross country ski (machine), regularly practice the piano and the violin, learn new languages, cross stitch, crewel embroidery, play strategy & word games

I am hyperactive:huh: What jealous sluggard flung that epithet at you? Sounds to me like you're vibrantly alive!

If you like music, but is afraid to learn Music Theory and all that Jazz, then try your hand at remixing or making music with just loops. With that you get the creative juices flowing, and learning to use a DAW and such, apply math and Logic to your stuff. Try it, it is working for me.

Music; I'm a DJ and love to collect and play tracks I'm into. I've been getting into producing as well. I love to nerd out on gear. Also play guitar and some other instruments poorly, lol.

Fitness; I used to run a lot, but graduated college after a great year in the sport and decided that was a good stopping point. I've been rock climbing the past few years. I like it a lot because it's a real full body workout, requires not just strength, but also balance, flexibility, finesse, and problem-solving. I also like how uncompetetive it is and how friendly the climbing scene is. I can go and climb by myself in my headphones for hours, or find a stranger to climb with and have a perfectly good time.

Object Manipulation; A few years back I got into the local fire performing scene and started with fire breathing. Now I do technical club spinning and fire staff. I just recently got asked to teach a class in NYC, which is pretty exciting. I'll have to post a video when I get a minute...

Braining Out; I love how you can learn just about any skill on the internet, especially with youtube. A few years back I learned electronic circuitry and got into DIY electronics with guitar effects pedals and synths.

I collect hobbies. Rock climbing, skiing, golfing, programming, juggling, guitar, reading, graphic design, web design, CAD design, drawing, scuba diving, writing, problem solving (anything I can find), video games, movies, music, biking.. damn I know that isn't everything.

The self-improvement aspect of INTJ is likely one of the most adamant traits in my personality. I won't even go into quirks/habits... haha.
