I use Internet Explorer 7 on a Windows XP, and I have Norton Antivirus Software installed on my computer. When I open IE, a green bar appears under the tabs bar which shows the state of the virus detector. I've used this program for.. about a year? A while ago, I found that I couldn't close tabs or windows without having all of my internet pages freeze up and remain frozen until I forcibly end the program.

Today I tried running IE without add-ons (including Norton, Adobe reader, Java, Windows Messenger, IE antiviral, etc), and tested to see if I could close something. It worked. Eventually I discovered it was the Norton Antiviral add-on that was freezing everything up. Which is kind of ironic, because I first assumed it was some virus that was freezing up my internet.

So right now, I have no choice but to run IE without Norton. I would use Firefox, but it runs painfully slow on my computer and lags everything.

Has anybody experienced a similar problem? Any suggestions on how to run IE with the Norton add-on?

Are you really stuck on Norton or would you consider something else?

If you are open to alternate anti virus programs might I suggest System Mechanic 7 Pro. They have a download, but I found it twice as expensive then the same boxed version available at the Office Depot (under $20) it's easy to load as long as you disable any other anti virus program. It has a lot of other features that make it a great deal check it out.
