Hey guys,
So which three movies would you rate as the best you have seen thus far? Don't forget to tell us why so.

I've never heard of any of those.
Harold and Maude. I saw it when I was five with my crazy great aunt and my mom. I didn't understand the implications of the majority of that movie at this time, but it was driven into my head that nonconformity was ok. I saw it again when I was 15 and It really opened some doors for me in my development. I think it saved me a little rebellion, that's not to say I wasn't still a hellion but the philosophy of that movie mellowed me a little.
it's one of those movies I still watch regularly.
Murder by death.. It takes place in the home of lional twain and the address of the house is 22 twain... no more need be said. Best evah.
the princess bride. it's just full of great lines.
the third slot probably changes regularly. Flavour of the month as far as favorite, as far as most memorable though, I think it stays.
Blazing Saddles Whenever I'm down, and randomly think of this movie. It always makes my day better. It's Mel Brooks at his best.
Evil Dead 2 It's a perfect blend of slapstick and horror.
Trainspotting It makes nihilism look fun!
Fox and the Hound, one of my childhood obsessions.
Desamadhudu, a hilarious (and full of cliche'd violence) telugu Indian movie.
Gandhi, I go retro into this movie all the time, nice actors.

All British films, I fear to say and not to recent either:
Passport to Pimlico - fabulous b&w, anarchic quality to the storyline, government imposed physical boundaries and a local uprising causing disharmonious relations in the heart of London etc. Something special with some excellent dialogue from the period.
Shallow Grave - fear, guilt, loathing, inherent criminality in ordinary folks bearing itself in the raw with overwhelming greed pushing them over the edge - quite illuminating how friendship so easily changes to competitive behaviour over money, with grim results. Twists in the plot appeal and, for me, this one gets me rather scared.
Gaslight - psychological power of a man over women's mental health in times of limited independence. Calculation by the husband and the chilling way in which he aims to perpetrate the crime.....to prove the insanity of someone else for personal gain is quite horrible but fascinating (another one would be 'Misery' - great film).
Seems I like the twisted plots more or less (but now you've started me off I'd also add Jean de Florette & Manon des Sources as well as Michael Moore films to the favourites basket for different reasons........).

Most memorable, not necessarily favourite...
Schindlers List/Hotel Rwanda – if you’ve seen them I don’t need to explain why, to see sacrifice and humanity in such a terrible circumstances, simply humbling.
Amalie – Gosh, this movie is beautiful, so much emotion, so raw, I love the part where she melts after seeing the guy she loves.
Reservoir Dogs – Favourite and most memorable! Could recite it word for word probably after seeing it so many times. God bless Quinton *says quiet prayer*

I've heard so many rave reviews of amalie, but I just didn't get that movie. I only made it about half way thru. it just seemed like she was dancing thru motions. didn't get it.
I did love wings of desire though. that was a great movie. ( for the emotional type genre although it was more of a clinical dissection of emotion. )
ah, I just remembered one of the movies that I would think would appeal to INTJ's but no one has mentioned that i've seen. Dangerous liasons. 18th century cat and mouse.

Yeah, I can get why people wouldn't get/like Amalie, for me it was the ultimate romance movie with-out romance.
It was mystical, emotional and peculiar. She lives in her head... as do I, and as such I loved the internal monologue.
Her expressions, well, OMG, they blew me away!
It simply captivated me.

I agree. Amelie was a fantastic movie that I fell in love with because, as you stated, she lives in her head and so do I. One of my favorite scenes is when the title character sticks her hand in the beans at the grocer's stand. That is totally me.
On subject - It's been difficult for me to pick just three movies because there are so many that are memorable to me. I've been thinking about this for awhile and just decided to pick any random three:
Terminator II - no matter how corny or outrageous I could watch this movie over and over without getting bored. I love the special effects, the acting, the plot, everything.
Don Juan de Marco - a bit funny, a bit sad, all around entertaining. Other than Apocapylse Now, I think this is Marlon Brando's best movie roll.
Rabbit Proof Fence - the first time I watched this movie I had actual physical and emotional responses to it. The fact that it's based on a true story makes it more intense.

Are you an Aussie? Cause that would explain the abusive language in your intro ;)
I found Rabbit Proof Fence deeply, deeply disturbing, amazing and brave performances from such young kids. Very hard to watch - not because it was bad, it's just the unrelenting pain that was projected out of the screen into my living room, I understand the comment about having a physical and emotional responce to watching the movie.
Not an easy film to watch.
[edit: language was not abusive... effin is not on the bad list]

Very true, it is good but hard to watch, particuarly the part where the grandmother hits herself with the rock. After a second or two I had to look away.
No, I'm not an Aussie, but I will admit that sometimes I sound a bit aggressive, even though I'm really not. However, I definitely swear way more than is probably necessary.

I love Harold and Maude. I first saw it when I was around 6 years old. I later fell in love with it as a teenager. It's still one of my favorite movies of all time now.

The Black Stallion; I just really, really like that horse a lot. I wish he was my horse.
The Godfather Part 2; that was the first time I remember being genuinely struck by great filmmaking.
And Now For Something Completely Different; I love those dudes (Monty Python guys). The scene in the restaurant where Graham Chapman complains to John Cleese about having "a bit of a dirty fork" which causes Cleese (the restaurant manager) to lose his mind is still the funniest scene I've ever seen in a movie. The first time I saw it I was literally on the floor laughing. Those guys are geniuses.

Shakespeare In Love - I watched it 6 times at a movie theatre.
Battle Royale - Exploration of humanity.
Rat Race - I don't know why I found it so funny.

Seven Pounds - probably the only movie that has ever touched me. It's about retribution, and the protagonist's internal conflict is so well developed, it's almost as if it happened to you. Overall, the concept of giving life to 7 strangers who need and deserve it, especially after one has accidentally taken it from 7 strangers, is touching. I am very, very pro- organ donation, especially while living. To me, it is one of the most selfless acts you can do.
Kung Pow - a parody of kung fu movies, it is a dub over of an actual old Japanese fighting movie, with the protagonist and a few other things digitally inserted into the film. It is beyond hilarious, making me actually laugh in every scene. My all time favorite movie. You can watch it the way it is mean to be watched, and you can also watch it without the English dub over. The protagonist also says different lines, in English, to match the vocal and physical discrepancies of the other actors due to the dub over. His original lines are pure gold.
Top Secret - also a comedy, and also a parody. This time, it parodies war movies, specifically the Germans and the French resistance. Every single time I watch this - and I've seen it several times - there is something else to pick up on and laugh at. Things going on in the background, subtle allusions, etc. While there are a lot of simple gag jokes and silliness, there is also a lot of very smart allusions and jokes, which I love.
