I recently purchased a dual-channel set of G.Skill's DDR2-1066 Cas5 Ram to replace some failing Crucial Ballistix DDR2-800 sticks. From the second I installed the new sticks, I of course began testing their limits.

They are rated to run at between 2.0-2.1v, and for my tests I selected 2.1v from the motherboard's BIOS (GA-P35-DS3L)

I ran a handful of different different timing configurations; For each one I used SetFSB to push the memory frequency higher until Orthos Blend was no longer stable (or the computer froze), and recorded the highest stable clock for each setting. Note that the subtimings stayed constant throughout all the tests, and were set based on the EPP recommendations for 533 MHz (DDR2-1066)

Subtimings:

RESULTS

6-6-6-20 : 690 MHz (DDR2-1380)
6-5-5-20 : 631 MHz (DDR2-1262)
5-6-6-17 : 590 MHz (DDR2-1180)
5-5-5-15 : 588 MHz (DDR2-1176)
5-4-4-15 : 475 MHz (DDR2-950)
4-5-5-12 : 500 MHz (DDR2-1000)
4-4-4-12 : 473 MHz (DDR2-946)
4-3-3-12 : 360 MHz (DDR2-720)
3-4-4-12 : 365 MHz (DDR2-730)
3-3-3-10 : 360 MHz (DDR2-720)

Considering these tests were only performed at 2.1v (and may have even been less due to any voltage droop/drop on this board), these are excellent results that get up into DDR3 speed territory. Based on the performance of this Ram Kit and its price (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. Product placement anyone?

Product placement anyone?

i dont think that is what he is trying to do. He overclocked his ram, was happy with the results and wanted to make a recommendation.

(i live with him, i know he's not in the advertisement industry)

Product placement anyone?

I can't share my experience with my new computer part in the "Computers and Technology" forum? I am trying to share information with others who enjoy PC hardware.

Thankyou for clearing that up ScantilyClad. I had a bad reaction, as I gave up overclocking years ago after frying a 3dFX Voodoo board. *shudders*

I've never overclocked anything lol
but its pretty much all my boyfriend does.:)
and i'm sure it really sucked to fry your 3dFX Voodoo board!

Well I can certainly respect someone trying to squeeze the last drop of performance from commodity hardware. *Takes hat off, nods to PcChip*

Yes it sucked bigtime, but thats what you get when you purchase an OEM board from a dirt cheap asian manufacturer (or at least USED to get). I recall the heatsinks being pretty badly bonded to the GPUs, and the memory chips had no heatsinking at all. I was only notching the core up by a few MHZ, and then it died after a day. Guess you get what you pay for.

I'm cool with it currently, I'd probably have made the topic a little more generic, but such is life.

I'd recommend that others come forward with any stories about other instances where they've done well with overclocking.

Celery OC'd to 2.8 last summer.(BSOD after an avg. of 30mins, was nice though)
GFX5200 +100Hz to all. 2d-3d-memory.
I won't say the specifications.
I should have been ashamed enough so that I would not talk about OC'ing a >5 y.old pc.

Sometimes I have an urge to smash things with it.
But I can't. I know that I love it:lovestruck:
Guess I can't be helped.
