Just Curious if anyone here has ever taken up bonsai. I picked it up fairly recently, and I find that it's a nice way for me to relax and focus my thoughts. For some reason taking part in something that takes years to complete really gets me thinking about how to shape my future.
I've never taken up bonsai, but I saw this gorgeous penjing exhibit in April in San Francisco that apparently is moving to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. If you're anywhere near there, I'd highly recommend checking them out. The photo on this link doesn't don't do them justice:

i LOVE bonsai. I've never tryed to actually "grow" one from nothing, but i had two as gifts from friends and they are now part of the family :)
it's true what you say about plants bringing you to meditations and the essence of life itself, you can see the natural process of "growth" with your eyes, and realize how much slower it is than what we normally assume...no? slow, but so powerful and steady.
two times one of my little bonsai lost all its leaves and looked very dead for days and days... i kept on trusting it wasn't dead, i even talked to him, and kept watering it etc. He was just very tired, maybe, or felt neglected, i don't know, but both times he decided to come back and yes, the first leaf you see on that naked little trunk, really, it talked to me about life.
