Wow, I know sharing energy and time are not my best areas ...

In my vision, I could do some things -- if nothing else -- donate funds to others who can be more "present" with people.

I do volunteer at an animal hospital to watch ICU foals at all times of day though. I remember once I went during exams from 10pm-6am (2 4-hour shifts because the person who was supposed to take the next shift didn't show up). My friends thought I was nuts... and I probably am ;D

Do you volunteer? And where?
I work on the media team at my church. I work usually as a Technical Director and Camera Operator.

And I'm slicing in part of another thread too. ;)

Currently I'm not doing any volunteer work.

In the past, I did volunteer work for animal rescue groups and was a literacy program volunteer (office work and teacher assistant).

Hum... I guess I must add other stuff now...

I have in the past volunteered at a geriatric centre where I did some admin/secretarial work, as well as in a medical lab which landed me a job the next summer.

I currently volunteer at the surgery ward at the Small Animal Teaching Hospital and at an animal clinic every summer.
Foal Watch, which is basically a group of people who relay shifts watching new-born horses that require 24hr attention. *I busy myself with that every winter and spring.

I plan to help out at WEEP (Wildlife Education and Environmental Programs) sometime this year.

Man... I feel like I'm at an interview. **stresses out*

Wow Tarrick... you're having some good fun with this splitting topics thing huh?

as needed at church. I tried a read to kids program a couple of months ago. I had some 2nd graders. I'd much rather work with older kids. I've found most people who want to work with kids like them younger. Frankly, I don't get the whole kids are cute bueiness but I guess that's for another thread. I'll prolly try it again. It's only once a month but it always seems to be the wrong Saturday for me.

Occasionally I tutor some kids. I might try to get in a more regular program of some sort. I'll prolly start looking in the next month or so.

I volunteered over a summer once for student painting. We got paid per job, not per hour, and the money was split between everyone working on the one job. I call this volunteer work because I had to work with this kid who was really bad at his job. I actually think he somewhat suffered from fetal alcohol syndrome :-/ I eventually stopped 'volunteering' and told my boss that I want my own separate work. As fun as 'volunteering' my time over the summer was, I needed money for school.

Yeah... that's my story :o

Wow, I do the exact same thing. I also do some graphical work for them too. My friend, another INTJ, is the director for the church's Media Department.

well, I signed up to volunteer for the SPCA, went to the orientation...and since then have only shown up to help with an event. I've never actually gone to the shelter. I was also hoping to volunteer at the only free form radio station (on a college campus, natch) in the area, but sadly their meetings for new volunteers fall on nights I will be at work. I do so miss blasting metal to anyone unfortunate enough to cross the station. In my early college years I was on the staff of the campus station, but it was sort of a joke due to its awful range. Still....fun times.

I get involved with outreach programs from time to time, tutoring kids and homeless.
Most of which are government and private institution projects.

Seconded, and since I'm not really good with children, somehow I'm not being liked by them as much as they like my friends.fixed broken quote tags

I did 66 hours of community service for National Honor Society in high school. helped tutor kids raked in the hours for me. Did various other things.

I also worked for no pay as a "volunteer" in a cancer research lab at a big university near me - known for its cancer center - this past summer. It was a bit more bio than I would have preferred but as one of my chem profs told me at least it had "molecular" in the name. (Molecular and Cellular Developmental Biology). But I mainly worked with cells. Actually mainly watched the grad student which was boring as all hell. I got to do my own stuff for like the last week I was there. Otherwise I just sort of observed and contributed very little. At most for the first 6 weeks I'd do a half an hour/day and a lot of that was just so I'd have something to do and not really contributing to research. No pay for that job which is why I was called a "volunteer". But enough on that....

I have volunteered hundreds of hours for our local youth baseball clubs - coaching, working on facilities and fundraising.

i used to volunteer my genius to the church and various charities for fundraisers and then later at a clubs library (true club) and nowadays i want to run my own charity that is basically a fundraising company directing money towards getting computers for schools, with linux on them. I also want to supply third world countries with science and engineering books translated into their own languages, along with argarian age technology so that they can develop and be sulf sufficient... as an added benefit have more self respect than a country with it's hand out.

I do volunteer work for organ donation. Many may think that is morbid, but my 17-year-old daughter was born with a fatal liver disease whose only cure is liver transplant. She had two liver transplants. The first when she was 21 months old (she developed chronic rejection) and the second when she was three years old. Now she's a lovely sweet affectionate girl (unlike her mother). I am very proud of her, and it would be a sad world with her not in it.

I used to volunteer at the Christian School which was run by my church, but we don't live in that state anymore.
I was also a volunteer on the church music team for 10 years.

I prefer to do short term volunteer projects.
I volunteer for a whole week each summer to help at Vacation Bible School.
I have gone door-to-door collecting money for good causes.

I can't remember the other things right now.

Volunteer work doesn't pay too good, but there are other benefits. Free food, housing, exercise, and good karma is about all you're going to get.

I work as a teacher at my church as well. My only issue is as a teacher we have to relate to the children on a personal level. I try, but sometimes I struggle.

I was a candy striper. Horrible name for a very fun job. I didn't want to do it. I enjoyed coming home from school and doing nothing productive, or just wasting time during the summer. My evil mom lady kept informing me that it would help me get into a decent college, which I wasn't especially enthused about, anyways. But I hung out at the hospital pretty regularly anyways and knew a bunch of people who worked there and didn't mind their cafeteria, so it wasn't much different. ::) I got free cafeteria food and learned all kinds of superly useful stuff for working in a hospital, which is way better than that college I went to. Other than that, I don't volunteer much. Gots to sleep and work.
