I was wondering if any of you encounter this issue:

When presented with a new work or educational challenge, I tend to over-prepare for it to the full extent of my ability. I also tend to be interested in impractical endeavors. As a result I find myself investing a great deal of time and energy into pursuits with little practical pay off. I have extensive teaching supplies for every single scenario from pre-school music through college/university level teaching. It is a lot of stuff, but I feel it is needed because I might be employed in a different context in the future. This occurs in everything I delve into. It seems to be the result of constantly thinking long-term to the point of sacrificing the short-term on a continual basis.

I do the same thing, I buy books constantly into areas that "I might one day want to" study, and spend top dollar for the very best of equipment so that it lasts as long as possible and I do not need to update regularly. Best possible computer, Best Industrial strength clothing, raincoats (drizabone) et cetera...

For a while I was even making biological weapons and building a stockpile of weapons for the inevitable market crash and rise in crime rates. Instead I'm doing a wiser thing by investing in real estate that I can become self sufficient on. (Zombie Fortress, another overpreparing thing.)

Not so much over preparing but I will fix little details that I know nobody will notice. I guess the main reason I don't over prepare is that I have so much on my plate as it is I am just keeping my head above water.

yeah, I know what you mean. Ok let me show a diagram bar of overachieving or preparing.

Here is your goals bar

Here is where you are unprepared.

The diagram, shows that you rised the bar so high that you can't even reach it. However, once you done it, you really mastered it, without knowing it. Reason why you get more high praises; but you keep asking yourself, did I leave anything else out?
