Hi all.

I am just curious, I am a INTJ and was wondering what others feel about traveling the world?
I am 18, after I left school I spent 10 weeks in Borneo and next year I am off to Papua New Guinea for a few months
then Oz and Japan for another couple of months, I just think that the mind numbing routine of University takes it toll and I NEED to get
away from my comfort zone.

Is this just my weird opinion??

I started a thread on this some time ago... but I can't find it anymore so I guess I'll post again.

I love traveling. It's a great opportunity to see things in a different light. In a way, it lets you reset your bar in terms of expectations and potentials. It's great to wander unfamiliar streets where no one knows you and just observe.

Went to London, England after I graduated from high school. Visited Hong Kong, a tiny part of Mainland China, and Japan last summer. I'd love to travel every summer, but it's always a serious drain on my bank account (travel = no work = spend more + earn less). Being a University student, that's not good. Unless I find a good deal that works with my schedule, I'll probably just go somewhere in the country this year.

Hmn... the only place I've ever been was Mexico. I do most of my traveling through shows like Globe Trekker :P But I totally agree with Rei's motivation for traveling. *:)

I am a US citizen and the only other countries I've been to are Canada and the U.K. My daughter and I need to see more of the U.S., especially our own state of California. We would also like to see Italy, France and Switzerland. We love to travel and plan to make a trip to Europe when she graduates from high school.

I wish I could travel, but I don't have the $$$. I went to California for the first time earlier this year (and the first time I crossed the Mississippi). I'd really like to visit South America and Africa at some point in my life.

If a person has the money to do it, Americans should try to visit other countries to see America through their eyes. It's like living in the same house, on the same street, in the same town all of your life. I feel like we're so isolated even though we have such diversity. We think we know what it's like to experience otherness because of the National Geographic channel or something. It's not the same as actually experiencing different cultures.

I also love traveling, it excites me and stimulates me. I tend to get easily bored with my surroundings, so it's good to shake things up. I've been to almost 15 countries, including studying in China for a semester in college and now living in South Korea teaching English for a year.
Also I think that traveling, especially long term, allows you to escape from your comfort zone at home and let you learn more about yourself through the challenges you face when you are abroad. Living in a foreign country, you really begin to understand the meaning of the word foreign. You don't belong and never will, but that instead of that being depressing, it's also liberating. I feel more free when I'm away from home because I don't have the pressure of family, friends, and society on me.
