I like Shymalan's other movies, except Lady in the Water, and I love Zooey Deschanel so I'm excited for this.

I actually thought Lady in the Water was not too bad. I didn't like The Village very much though.

What was it about Lady in the Water that you didn't like?

The Village was dreadful. Lady in the Water was good, though.

The Happening looks interesting.

My favorite M. Night Shyamalan movie was Unbreakable.

Nothing made sense; there didn't seem to be any plausible reasons why things worked the way they did. It just felt like an arbitrary attempt to be cryptic with a riddle.

I'm a bit reserved toward this as I'm rather unreceptive toward trailers and the last few movies he made weren't that great.

I think the best one I've seen was the Sixth Sense, the other ones try to contort the story and build on fear that you can't even see.
Signs, was okay but had an antidramatic ending I mean if these aliens were vulnerable to water why would they go and invade a water planet
The Village, well people noticed the microphone sticking in the screen and the supposed creatures of fear looked like guys in suits in the first place.

It is pretty funny how he puts himself in the films though.

The thing with Lady in the Water though, is that I didn't think it was supposed to make any sense.

The Village on the other hand, was a movie that made no sense AND it had no point. It seemed like the whole thing was about a guy getting stabbed and a quest to save him which involved *gasp* going somewhere no one is supposed to know about! Maybe it was ruined by the fact that I'd already guessed what was going on =/

You're not supposed to be able to see fear
But anyway, I don't think he was building fear. I think it was just suspense/anticipation. I never thought any of it was scary...

The Sixth Sense was brilliant.

Signs was shit.

The Village was actually pretty good IMO. I LOVED the twist at the end, but I know most people didn't.

Didn't see Lady in the Water, looked kinda dumb.

I REALLY want to see this though, looks AMAZING. It's something I think about all the time.

I like M Night Shamalan, but I don't always like his movies.

I notice both The Happening and The Incredible Hulk are coming out on the same day.

I can't decide which one to see first.

I must say that I'm not a fan at all of this Rhythm & Hues-designed CG Hulk, it pales in comparison with ILM's 2003 Hulk.

On the other hand, I noticed that ILM is working on The Happening, which might just as well imply that the film will have some fascinating CGI and perhaps even character animation. The Happening certainly has a mysterious quality. I just hope the surprise ending isn't something dumb like in The Village.

Without giving anything away, I came across somebody online who claims to have read one of the early drafts of the script. If he's telling the truth and the script hasn't changed that much, I predict poor reviews on the level of "Lady in the Water."

The Sixth Sense was awesome. Happening looks like it will be great too. Haven't seen any of his others.

Most of his movies (except for signs) SUCKED! I heard that "The Happening" got a C-.

After Signs, and I wasn't that jazzed about any of his new films, everything was not of interest to me. He's grasping at straws. I look forward to stuff done by JJ Abrahims and Joss Whedon versus him.

I think his best was Unbreakable. That was my favorite.

All I know is that The Happening got a solid F grade in the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Now I'm not one to read reviews, but an F is a rarity even in a world where critics don't like anything. Roger Ebert, on the other hand, was one of the few critics who liked the movie, giving the film three stars out of four, but he's a few steps away from entering a nursing home.

I'll probably see it this week...maybe Wednesday. I don't think any other movies I want to see are coming out this week.

Here's a VFX World article (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.) on the film's gory effects if anyone is interested. I only skimmed through it because I haven't seen the movie.

I presume that The Happening was just Shyamalan's experiment in the foray of gore the way Lady in the Water was his experiment in mainstream CGI.

I read the Ebert review too. Perhaps I'm remembering it incorrectly but I do remember him describing the movie as "realistic". Out of curiosity I found a spoiler for the movie and, while I won't ruin the ending for anyone here who is interested in seeing it, it does seem like Mr. Ebert may have finally left orbit.

Saw it yesterday. It was merely average. There were some scenes (mainly involving deaths) that were unintentionally funny, but my own morbid sense of humor didn't care. There were some rather freaky moments, as well, mainly involving an old lady (they tend to be creepy, anyway).

I didn't think the film's gore was really at the R-rated level. I think the film could have easily gotten a PG-13.

I agree, The Happening was like a short story Stephen King wrote in 5th grade. What's up with movies lately? All B and C movies no A.
