Those of us who have no actual skills, accomplishments, or prospects need it very much.

That was a fun read. To the author (whomever the author may be), I'd like to recommend this book (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. Good work overall, but a well-rounded vocabulary is no substitute for a solid argument, and more than anything, the author seemed to be railing against the concept of a "solid argument" in the first place.

The "well-rounded vocabulary" is another play at the common perception of pretentiousness against what I consider pretentiousness to actually be.
I'm not stressing against solid arguments, but the difficult first step of actually reaching a reasonable argument and understanding its limitations.

also I have read "On BS an Philosophy", which is a more mature version of "On BS" and the latter is on my to read list.

Well I apparently missed the vocabulary play (whoosh sound). ;)
I think you'll enjoy the book. It's a *very* short read that's more like a long brochure than a book, but it's also very illustrative. Some have argued (perhaps rightfully so) that the author could use a dose of his own medicine considering the overall angry/ exasperated vibe of the work.

Interesting misspelling here...perhaps 'pretenonsense' may have been more appropriate :)
When I read this:
I am genuinely confused by the populace’s widespread misappropriation of pretentiousness as a negative. Too much self-importance, it is believed, is nothing more than a sign of a sanctimonious, selfish disregard of the beliefs of others and a dishonest, inaccurate judgment of the credit or favor to which one is entitled. This is not only patently false, but ironically pretentious as well. To make any reasoned judgment, flawed or unflawed, is an inevitably pretentious action. Pretentiousness is not dishonest or inaccurate, and to suggest so is extremely dishonest, inaccurate, and hypocritical.
I immediately dismissed the author as someone capable of even pretending to be logical (even in jest). If someone can explain to me what point is being made above, I will confer on them my pretentious judgment of genius.

HA! I actually get it now! After some more thinking, I realized that the entire concept of pretentiousness is pretentious! It's like an infinite regression paradox. (At least with regard to finding that reasonable first step.)
Egghead one: "That guy over there thinks people grow on trees. What a stupid idea!"
Egghead two : "You shouldn't immediately dismiss his ideas. As if yours are any better! Thats very pretentious of you."
Egghead one : "How pretentious of you to dismiss my dismissal of his stupid ideas on the grounds that it was a pretentious decision!"
Egghead two: "Oh, what a pretentious notion!"
