This is what happens, when your totally beholden to the government for basic self protection, and cuts to the core of why I insist that most gun control laws are pure B.S.

Here is direct quote from the 911 dispatch centers tapes..
Sheila: "Nobody's coming out here?"
911: "Yes, ma'am. As soon as the sergeant gets an officer available, he's gonna send somebody out there."
Sheila: "What, do y'all want him to kill me so you can put yellow tape around me and say we got there just for the death? Is that it? I don't understand."
Sheila: "I'm scared to even leave out my f***ing house."
911: "OK, ma'am, I updated the call. We'll get somebody there as soon as possible."
Sheila hangs up.
911: "I really just don't give a s**t what happens to you."
Ahh Nice....When the person your counting on to help you tells you that they really, just don't give a s**t about you....
Nice.... Time to reach for the Kalashnikov rifle in the closet, and let the "chips" fall where they may...Because the Police just abandoned you...

Well, to be fair, every job in the world has one or two useless fuckups in it. They fired that operator, and it's not like we are drowning in stories like that, so I think the system is still running pretty well.
The story is pretty short on detail. Maybe that woman had already called a dozen times in the past. Maybe she was known to be unstable and was "crying wolf". Maybe that operator's puppy just died. You can't condemn an entire system just because of one event with no context.

Yea, nice, when YOUR life is on the line, you get to deal with a government employee that don't give a s**t about you.
These things are NOT isolated incidents...read this from the other day....Another "government" employee....who's job it was to protect us.

A sample of 2 out of millions proves nothing.
Overall the system works well: the roads are maintained, our drinking water is clean, our sewers don't overflow, the streets are relatively crime free, fires get put out ect...
Of course you should always be prepared to care for yourself but the system is functional.

Oh wait, those two incidents are connected? Cuz if they're not, then I would say they are isolated.
What exactly are you complaining about? That people make mistakes? That people occasionally do bad things? That the government doesn't know everything? That no system is perfect? That you aren't allowed to hunt those two people down and personally shoot them in the face?
Even Presidents get killed. It is impossible to protect a person from every danger. Which means there is no such thing as a world in which everyone is safe. Which means we just have to figure out how safe we can be.
If you want people to protect you, become valuable. Rich people get a lot more help from the government. You know why? Because they are more valuable. The government isn't some sort of faceless, monolithic "thing" that is just supposed to know that you need help and magically make all the bad people go away. It is an organization of human beings, just like you, who is doing a job. Sometimes they screw up. Sometimes they hire the wrong person. Sometimes they just don't have the resources to help you. I hope that none of this is coming as a suprise to you.
Remember that when you take the law into your own hands you are declaring yourself seperate from everyone who follows the law. You can't jump outside the laws for half an hour and then be welcomed back into the circle of trust. Go ahead and spray someone standing outside your door with 7.62 rounds and see what happens. Even your best friends are going to be wondering whether or not you'll do that more quickly the next time you feel like it.

Of course in the US, where “government” is viewed as a dirty word by so many, I can’t help but wonder whether crappy government service isn’t a self-fulfilling prophecy…
I mean, what would you be like if being a “government employee” means you’re of low social status to many people out there? For one thing that must be pretty discouraging to those employed by the government. For another, just who do you think will apply for the job if it’s so scoffed at and lousily paid, because apparently no one wants to pay taxes, meaning whichever politician who cuts the budget to a department is viewed as a hero rather than a saboteur…?
Ever notice how military recruitment has declined ever since the abuse of military personnel in ill-planned occupations has become apparent to prospective protectors of the country? Well, don’t you think the same effect on morale would happen in other departments of the government as well?
Also, assuming the 911 service is crappy, what do you propose to replace it with? Some private service, covering only the neighborhoods able to pay? Or one that bills you an arm and a leg after they’ve deigned to come over to your house on an emergency call, as the hospitals’ emergency rooms do to uninsured accident victims or to those whose profit-oriented health insurances wiggle out of paying up?
Just what are your ideas to improve the system, inquiring minds wish to know…
