I just got home from seeing Speed Racer this evening, and all I can say is WOW!

This was easily the most unique experience I had viewing a movie in the summer. Full of flashy special effects, spectacular art direction, endearingly quirky cast members. It was like viewing something in between a highly imaginative cartoon and transforming the mundaneness of reality into something shockingly beautiful and of immense intellectual stimulation that is contained within not deep themes and ideas, but flashy imagery that gets your wild fantasies pumping.

Speed Racer is what summer movies are all about. This fantasy world breaks the laws of physics and is able to play ever so creatively with it.

The cons, however, are that the film did somewhat steal some of the ideas I had. I hate when that happens.

I think this summer movie season will turn out to be one of the best ever. Everything looks good. I thought Speed Racer might be a dud, but it is not.

After this we have Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (which is pumped full of nostalgia and will be great), Prince Caspian (which strays far from the book, but still looks like it will be better than the first), The Incredible Hulk (which I think will be a big improvement over Hulk), and the one I am most psyched about, The Dark Knight. That one looks like it will be a piece of pure awesomeness. It seems suited especially for an INTJ, IMO.

I think ILM's Hulk back in 2003 looks better than the Rhythm & Hues Hulk to be honest.

I also think The Happening looks interesting...of course, M. Night Shyamalan has not been the same for quite some time -- my favorite film of his was Unbreakable.

This new Mummy movie, however, is going to be the biggest dud. Journey to the Center of the Earth looks quite cool, though.

I don't know why critics hated Speed Racer so much...they couldn't have possibly expected an epic social commentary -- and frankly, I hate movies that are like that.

I would like to know why. I thought it didn't look so good because it looked too perfect. The new version has more veins and skin irregularities, and I think that makes it look more realistic.

Or can you not place it? Besides the realism, there is something that I like more about the face structure of the new one. It has to do with the hair too, but there is something about the face that I think looks better, though I couldn't tell you exactly what.

I lost track of Shyamalan after Lady in the Water. But I'm certainly interested in whatever he doing next, so I'll look into that.

They're making another. That can't be good.

Yes, that too. I wonder how close they are staying to the book...

Visual originality is important to me. The Wachowski Brothers are really good at that.

Yeah, Brendan Fraser is going to be in it, but they're dealing with a different mummy -- a mummy in the Far East played by Jet Li. Yes, it's going to be shitty. And this one has a different director -- the director of this one is the same guy who did The Fast and the Furious, XXX, and Stealth. Those three movies just took themselves way too seriously.

The thing I loved about the other two Mummy movies was that they did everything possible not to take it seriously, and that's why they were so enjoyable.

Here's the third movie: The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.). Apparently, Rachel Weisz became too proud to reprise her character.

VFXWorld finally has its article (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. Still, some amazing sequences, courtesy of Digital Domain, BUF, CafeFX, Evil Eye Pictures, Sony Pictures Imageworks, and Industrial Light & Magic.
