After much research (LOL INTJ RESEARCH LOL), I got a Sony Ericsson w810i earlier this year. I saw someone else had that phone which made me create the thread.
I'm wondering if many people have come to the same conclusion.

Motorola V195 here, not due to research so much as exasperation. I like the flip-phone form factor, and I don't want a frickin' embedded camera with suboptimal performance. There are precious few phones on the market these days that fit both of those criteria.
Looking ahead, though, I think I may finally hang up (pardon the pun) the Motorola and the last in my series of Palm PDAs next year and join the smartphone wave. I'm hearing good things about the newest-generation Blackberries and the technology is finally to the point that I won't lose any functionality in a PDA or a phone if I move to a converged device. So, yeah, I'm investing a fair amount of research in that decision.

hehe - this makes me laugh because well...
I got a pink motorola razr which is the ideal E girl phone in my opinion.
Two extroverts that annoy me use it. I'm honestly ashamed of the color choice (well I guess a bit the phone in its entirety) - though I think I kind of went with it cause mom would have yelled at me for being too boring if I didn't get it - and I didn't want to deal with that.
I like the fact that it's a flip phone and the buttons light up to like a blue in the dark. That's actually probably the most entertainment I'm going to get from a phone is flipping it not talking to anyone. However that's not very productive and not all that entertaining and thus doesn't happen very often.
I use my phone for parents and coaches to call me. That's it. Contact me by email if you want a quick response unless you actually catch me at a time where a) I have my phone on me (I don't carry it around with me ever unless I'm somewhere with a group and I'm split off them or something) or b) I'm not doing something that I'd get annoyed by a phone call, nap, studying, train of thought....

Nokia 3600. I got it for my birthday to replace my old Nokia 3510i brick. It now fits nicely in my pocket, looks quite nice in silver and black and has a 2 megapizel camera which is the same as our actual digital camera, so that's not too bad. Not that I'm a big phone user, as I mentioned in another thread, I hate phones. It's just practical when I'm out and about. Especially when a lot of people simply refuse to email.

I once told a girl who had a pink razor that everyone who owns one is a shallow dolt.
This is before I knew she had one.
And before I read this post.

Dark grey outside, light grey inside, Motorola RAZR.

I have a really basic Nokia not even colourised.
I want a phone that I dont have to modify at all (or one I can hack completely). It has to have Tetris, MarioBrothers, SMB, SMB2, and SMB3. It has to play mp3, ogg, flac, lame, formats natively and have about 8GB - 400GB storage for songs. that's all i care about.
However since i wont be able to get a phone like that, i'm looking for a decent linux phone so that i can fuck around with it, and tweak it to my desires. Gotta have a shitload of storage, or allows externals.
might just build one.

hahaha oops... I'm not laughing at you, I'm laughing at what you said because erm.... I understand completely why you said that (and might have even said the same thing in the same situation).
It just screams shallow dolt, doesn't it(especially when it's connected to the ear, I can handle it slightly better off the ear of people)? And yet another reason I don't like to carry it and if I am carrying it - it isn't out for long and it's buried in my purse or something - purses are practical for me - I use them to carry stuff - they aren't a fashion statement and I don't have 365 purses - I'm actually half tempted to get a cover for it that's a different color so that the pink isn't so obvious but that's kind of shallow too. Someone has a BRIGHT pink cover on her phone and wears bright pink nail polish - scares the hell outta me - as you can tell, I'm anti-shallow and try to be as anti-shallow as humanly possible.... Sorry for going off on about fifty tangents there.
I'll give you a  on the comment even though I have one hehe.
I noticed tonight that someone I know (a chemistry major) had one too. But it just hit a nerve to me. It just went...Oh noez! Not the pink motorola razr! I thought she was sane! Then I thought, well I guess you aren't the only chem major who has one and perhaps sane people really do have them.. Maybe I should feel better about owning one. But she's probably more extroverted than you - she does live in an apartment with 3 other people! you're in a single. Shame on her for having one, though, still slightly disappointed at that...you have one...yes but at least you feel ashamed about it....
Yeah that's my thought process haha.

I check it periodically or if it vibrates for urgent shit. I know what you mean, though. I don't like being interrupted.
I have a sony w300i which is more often than not got a dead battery and remains like that for weeks .. I want a smart phone with windows mobile 6 so I am better organised at work instead of a million bits of paper...

In one of my other "secret identities" (i.e. when I was laid off from a real job) I worked at RadioShack. One day a young girl came in - all of 10, accompanied by her mother, to buy a phone. She was dressed head to toe (literally) in pink. If she could have, I'm guessing her eyes would have been pink too.
Guess what phone she wanted... :-?

I have an old Nokia 6800, it has cracked plastic over the screen, but it still works ok, and until I can afford a new one, i'll be keeping it. Once you go keyboard you don't go back.
The 6800 is the precursor to the E70, which you might recognise from here:

i was planning to buy an ipod before but then came sonyericsson's walkman phones. i got 2 network lines one for biz and the other is personal stuff. personal line is carred by w810i, business line w850i. i love sony ericsson. i've used nokia before but the hardware isn't reliable. as for sonyericsson, i took my w850i with me on a camping trip and it fell more than 3 meters landing on rocks and soil... i still have my phone up and running... w850i is my favorite (except for it's bulky shape) because it has almost everything i need.

w810i (white) aswell. I work with cellphones, and I've tried/tested them all. The SE family has by far the better phones. Most nokias are good (some are bad). Some Samsungs and LGs are good (most are bad). Motos for the most part are horrible.
Also, get phones with sim cards. The one's that don't are like hyper locked by the carriers, usually preventing you from loading your own content onto your phone.

black razr v3? with busted hinge on one side and service went out yesterday after not paying for 2 months
( asked ATT to change me to GO phone and bills stopped coming but phone kept working so i just left it alone and got a couple months free.)
I have no intention of renewing a contract.. thinking about a skype WIFI phone for home use (COST OF PHONE + 40 a YEAR for a PHONE #) cheap as it gets and works off WIFI.
I don't talk enough and had so many roll over minutes off the lowest minute plan that I can't justify paying 1620 which is approximately what I payed over the last 3 years.
I'm plotting isolation :X

I use lots of phones... I like phones. I'm on a GSM carrier so I can move my SIM around and use the phone I want...
Usually: Palm Treo 680
Often: Sony-Ericsson K610i (it's my preferred phone when I don't need my organizer with me)
Sometimes: Motorola RAZR V3 (nice form factor, great sound quality)
Rarely: Motorola P280 (my first world phone, great reception, but probably superfluous now)
I also have a couple of cheap Nokias that I have on prepaid plans (I'm a mobile phone geek).
I'm not sure I'm terribly representative of the INTJ community here, though... I have mobile phone numbers in Canada, the US, the UK, Switzerland, Germany and Austria... no joke. Most are prepaid; one Canadian account (my main one) is postpaid.
What can I say? I'm a bit of a value maximizer. I hate roaming charges. :)
I have a Samsung-something which is the result of telling the salesman to get me the cheapest flip phone they had. It can take and receive calls and text messages, and it even has a calendar. All I'll ever need. I'll only buy a new one when it breaks.

Just a Sony Ericsson w800i
When I lived in the US, I could care less about my phone and had an old LG model that came free with a plan.
Then I moved to South Korea to teach English and developed a serious case of cell phone envy. When I'm on the subway, I'm always checking out other people's phones and when I walk by any of the ubeqitious cell phone stores, I find myself glancing at all the displays.
I'm on my 2nd phone in less than a year, although my first one didn't work properly so I had to get a new one. My current phone is a used black Samsung push-up style that is very popular here. It is very small and gets great reception even when I call back to the US on it.

I would absolutely have an iPhone, but:
a) They are not in Canada yet, and
b) I am not above hacking one, but the only GSM provider in Canada is Rogers. And Rogers service sucks where I am situated. So, since Telus is CDMA.... I'd say I'm screwed.
Oh, and my Blackberry phone/data plan costs me $100/month. Pity me.

Bottomline: In love with iPhone? No. Does it do 80% of what I need it to do? Yes.

I have (US) AT&T service but I just can't pay the price that is being asked for the iPhone. My Blackjack doesn't have all of the super-whoopee features that the iPhone has, but it gets the job done and I can download MP3's to it to relieve the boredom of work. That, and text messaging is 99% of what I use the phone for.

You mean that you aren't fascinated by gadgetry? :scared: Personally, I look at my cell phone as less of a phone and more as a multi-function device. Texting, mobile-Internet, and MP3 player are how I put mine to use (making/receiving calls is a nuisance!).

Hahahhaa, I loved Get Smart when I was a kid (Nick at Nite reruns, oh yeah!).
Currently, I use a Samsung that Alltel calls The Snap. It makes calls, and has a camera (useful for researching and shopping...I take a picture of labels and such so I remember later which model # to look up). That's really all I need. I had an SE T237? I think. It did the light up thing with ringtones, I liked that because I wouldn't always want noise, and vibrating phones in tiny pockets of women's pants means it sat right on the extremely ticklish spot on my hip...not good. Hard to look professional when you're wiggling around, wrestling a phone out of your stupid pocket.

I get the second cheapest cell phones the companies offer with a contract. Mine is the one I let my INTJ husband pick out for me. I like practial more than pretty for appliances, but I am INFP, so I would judge a "good phone" by how I "feel" about it. One of my strange theories for purchasing electronics is seeing if they're heavy for for their size and appearance... Very bad logic.
So, my INTJ husband convinced my to get the some kind of Nokia. I hate them all for some unknown reason, but I knew that his reasons were more grounded than mine. I would curse myself if I bought some shitty, unreliable, staticky phone.
I like having him for that. I am an extreme idealist. So, it's wonderful to have someone chose the thing thing is most ideal.

It's nice enough - 3.2MP camera works OK, though the LED flash isn't that great (not that bad either).
The only complaint I'd have is that the interface is a little slow, and so is browsing through photos. I like to keep photos of friends and family in my phone... for times when I have to wait for some reason - I find it relaxing to browse through the photos of people I know and love.
