If it's a language I'm remotely familiar with, I'd usually just use word translators rather than block translators.

I'm really curious how companies like babel fish even stay in business. Babel fish has been around for so long (I think its been around since like 1997/8 probably seeing as Altavista was ~1995).

The results that it passes are never that impressive especially for east Asian languages. I have been studying Korean for about two years now and whenever I come across a Korean website I have trouble with I use a service called Pop-jisyo.

Basicly the program acts like a proxy and I can just mouse over any word I don't understand and it will give me a dictionary definition of it...really useful stuff (given you have some grasp of the language to begin with).
