I have been intrested and have been doing taxidermy from the age of around 14yrs.
Does anyone else do taxidermy, if so what do you do, pets, game animals, etc.

I will post pictures once I find my camera connecting lead thingy ma gigger. Never there when you need it.
So feel free to share pictures, but I feel there is not many people who do it on INTJf.

They're so beautiful... I have two mounted deer, two ducks, a mounted bass and a bobcat as well. I may post pics on here later >>

I especially liked the Barn Owl

This is an old thread. Seen it come up and got excited thinking someone else started it lol. How much did the deer and bob cat cost? What type of deer?

They didn't cost anything. My granddad killed one, my sister the other. My granddad also killed the bobcat, and the ducks. The bass was a gift. White tailed, both of them. The one he shot was a 6-point, the one my sister shot is 8.

I'll post pics... Sometime >> I just got back from school, and I'm feeling pretty apathetic.

I love taxidermery, but I would advise against drinking while stuffing.

I would like to kill a person and have them stuffed, preferably a prisoner (violent criminal, rapist, etc.) or a crack addict. How much would it roughly cost to have taxidermy services performed on this type of subject? Do you charge by the hour or according to weight?

This thread has also got me fantasizing about stuffing these people (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. Is it possible to just get their heads stuffed? Kind of like the way people stuff deer heads (except I wouldn't want to stick them on my wall). Would I have to stick them on a wooden foundation or something?

I just read up on this. It seems you *can* stuff a person. Personally I would say no to me doing it. Remember buffalo bill in the hannibal novels? His skin 'coats' kept getting streched. Human skin is 10 times more streacher than animal. It never goes back to the origional shape. You need to be good at molding facial features so the face looks normal. Which I am not good at. Normally I get game and hunting animals, which have a basic charge depending on the type of animal. Time is normally the factor and how difficult the mount was. I charge fish by inches, say £10 per inch. I am crap at mounting fish though. Human skin is, if its a white skinned person, would be annoying. The colour of the mold would have to be white or else it might show through. When this was done in the US, it was given at $500,000 but the wife of the dead guy back out so it was never done. I would guess I would charge less maybe £10,000 or so. It would be very very very hard to do and intresting. Plus pay for my counselling after I get nightmares and flash backs from doing it to a human :P

Would it make a difference if the prisoner were younger, say late 20's though early 30's, as opposed to some old fogie that died of old fogie causes? After all, human skin does lose its elasticity as a person ages (hence, wrinkles)...

I would say it is totally possible to just get the heads and leave it on a platform sort of stand. Cost you, hard to get the human face looking alive let alone not deformed. Getting glass human eyes the right colour might cost you plus if you want the mouth open in a scream, it would be difficult to mimick inside it. Good luck if it ever mannages to happen :P

I am really no expert. I think that human skin also gets the power to return to its origional shape with a good blood supply and hydration. The hide would be tanned and scrapped. The chemicals might have a diffent affect on the movement of skin too. The younger the person, the more chance of it going *more* out of shape. The older the person the larger chance of it not changing shape. The body would have scars and stitches. Unless I would use glue, but some stitching would be needed which is normally hidden. Would the mount be naked or clothed? If clothed you could just get the head and hands done as the rest would be hidden.

That albino badger is AWESOME.

Is this like building model kit dioramas?

Mhhh. If you mean the small detailed airplane models you build and that sort of thing then yes. For a deer head you can buy a mould online and get the skin tanned. Put the skin on mould etc, throw in glass eyes and nose and its done. You can make the mould your self which is like wood work, metal work and all that sort of thing. I thought the badger was cool when it was given to me.

Curious if the law against having a human body would not count if it was just the hide/skin. It would just be a under mould of several materials and human skin and hair placed over it. Not a body. Why should I care?

This is actually a really great point because I would prefer to preserve the looks they had on their faces when I beheaded them. I mean we are talking about a a girl getting even here, so some expressions of fear/suffering (exactly what they did to me) would be a really nice token of vengeance/reminder. :wacky:

I really like the expression on this scene: To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. I'm thinking I should probably move fast, right? Like chop-chop: right after beheading them I have to take action to preserve them? Geez, I'm so clueless about this art form. :blank:

Well number 1, dont got violently beheading them! If you want fear tourtue them for awhile before killing them. Then get to the bottom of the neck, insert the blade, try a scapel for this, and cut down carefully to the spine. Get inbetween the vertabra with a stronger blade and cut through. If you are not working right away, wrap it up carefully and sit in a freezer. It does not matter what pose the face took on death. Try and move the face back to normal. Take a photo or look at the video footage you would take while killing them if you want a certain pose. Take out of freezer and allow to defrost. Now, skin the head. Send it off to be tanned. Btw, skinning the eyelids would be so hard. Get the mould of the head off the remain skinnless bit of meat. Sometimes you buy forms/mounts that only give a basic shape. You need to use clay to build up the facial features. Once the tanned skin returns, have fun trying to put it on mould. Stick in glass eyes, leave to dry and there you have it! I think this would be unsuccessful. Do a Damien Hirst and put the head in a jar of preserving liquid such as flomydhyde. To keep that 'dont kill me' expression inject with botox to freeze the face. I hope you are being hypothetical and none of what I said will be used as instructions according to the court.

Pfft, who needs Taxidermy for that when you can just freeze them in carbonite.

I need it for a job! I just heard polly morgan has a show in the gallery, her medium is taxidermy so I will take pics tonight and put them up here.
