I'm in China; yesterday, proxy worked fine, then all the sudden, EVERY ONE of them needed a username and a password. I suspect government intervention, and want to know if any of you're having trouble with it?

The problem with "the great firewall of china" is that it doesn't block ip addresses specifically (well, it does, but only after the next part kicks in), but looks instead for keywords in the stream of data. So if you use a proxy, but are still pulling in these keywords, you're still going to get blocked.
You should be looking into encryption to the proxy :)

But I was trying to access diy.despair.com. It was unaccessable for some reason, but was made accessable after I used proxy; only that the username/password window wouldn't leave me alone, causing the browser to crash a several times.
Update: I tried google; it works, but it's just despair.com that doesn't. I searched it in google and tried to click it; I had to enter password again.

I suggest using Tor (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.) as a proxy. It encrypts data locally before sending it off to a node so the state's filter won't be able to sniff your packets.

The firefox tor button works quite easily--there is just a slight increase in lag.
