If you are the type of INTJ who understands the intellectual benefits of humor, who do you like most? ;D

I love humor, period. Intellectually, I'd say that George Carlin would be my favorite. But I also like Bob Newhart, Richard Pryor, Sam Kinison and Andy Kaufman. I can appreciate slapstick like Benny Hill or Jerry Lewis (when he was funny).

Martin Lawrence (one of the only black comedians who can be funny without using race as a crutch 90% of the time.) I just think he's hysterical.
Jim Gaffigan is also good. Jeff Ross is good.

Have you watched Joe Dirt?
He was awesome in this. "You mean to tell me, you're so ingrained with White Trash DNA, that your beard grows in like that, all White-Trashy?"
"Your last name is DIRT...I mean, isn't that what's on the family crest?"
Yeah, Dennis Miller rules. :cheesy:

Another vote for George Carlin. Almost everyone I know thinks he's offensive. I think he's hilarious because so much of what he says...is true! :)

Ah...Tina Fey. She's a comedy genius. I always think of her as a writer though and not a comic per se so she didn't come to mind immediately. I used to work with a lady who lived in the same building as her in NYC and said that she was incredibly nice and down to earth, and a smart cookie in real life too. :)
I'll watch anything she's in. Yes, even Mean Girls. Speaking of which...new episode of 30 Rock tonight! One of the very few TV shows that I even watch, let alone find amusing.

Bill Cosby, Russell Peters, Mike McDonald, George Carlin, Jim Carrey, Red Skelton...
But the absolute funniest comedian I've ever seen was Robin Williams and his performance in "Live on Broadway." I have never in my life watched anything as funny, true, smart, and... GENIUS... as his act. Sheer brilliance.

Unfortunately, yes. I love what he said at the end of one of his performances, about him not relying on "four-letter words" to make people laugh. And it's true. His jokes are funny on their own, and he doesn't need to swear left and right to make them funny.
That said, I do enjoy real crude humor involving said "four-letter words".

Dara O'Briain is fantastic, and I wasn't expecting him to be. He is very quick-witted and you have to admire him for it - there's less and less "natural" comedy out there (you get the feeling he enjoys Billy Connelly's style)
I like Micheal McIntyre - he has a presence on stage that you can't ignore, and some really innovative material.
Big fan of the yet unmentioned Stewart Lee - I love his deconstructive and meta comedy. It's like watching "comedy theory".

Dane Cook oh, yes, and Dane Cook. Good women's comedian. Only guy I've seen who can very pointedly say "you are stupid for acting like a girl," and pull it off.
Also only comedian I've seen make jokes about masturbation-- while making the gestures of a guy doing it -- on stage at Madison Square Garden. Amazing to be able to do this, and keep the crowd so engaged.

Any Stooge fan should know that Shemp came before Curly!
Anyway, I'm not a big fan of comedians per say, but my favorite comedic filmmakers are Jim Abrahams, David Zucker, and Jerry Zucker.
I guess you can say that I like Leslie Nielsen.
When I was young, I also idolized Jim Carrey. He was one of my heroes growing up, as were George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, and Stanley Kubrick. Speaking of which, Spielberg directed one of the most underrated comedies of all time -- and that was 1941; that was before Spielberg got all personal and started taking WWII seriously.

I really enjoy stand up comedians. It is a true art to make an audience laugh.
- Ricky Gervais: He is the genius behind The Office (the UK version is 10x better).
- Lee Evans: Live at Cardiff is phenomenal.
- Mitch Hedburg.
- Andy Kaufman: A true comical genius.
- George Carlin.
- Sasha Cohen: Andy Kaufman has paved the way for comedians like him.
I don't like Dane Cook very much. Just not a fan of his comical style, its just to superficial, no depth.
My 2 cents.

There's probably dozens more that I cannot think of, off the top of my head.
The funniest I've seen lately is Andrew Kennedy on the Comedy Central talking about his British father and doing his Hispanic bit.
Sarah Silverman's TV show if funny, Dimitri the chart guy is good, Ricky Gervais the British office guy is hilarious, the two man Australian guitar group is funny can't remember the name and too lazy to look it up. The whole redneck group on Comedy Central with the git er done guy and the other pompous asses are the opposite of funny.
Check out retired radio host Phil Hendrie if you can find any of his old bits floating around the internet. That is one talented and hilarious dude.

That's all I can think of for now.
I feel a bit sheltered here, I've not even heard of nearly half the people mentioned in here....
That being said, I have a huge amount of like for:
Tommy Cooper - Fez wearing nutter, can^h^h^h could make anything funny.
Chris Morris - Satire is the most awesome of all forms of comedy, Brass Eye being the pinnacle of everything.

Bill Hicks is my all time favorite comedian. However, if we're talking living/touring comedians I would have to say that Louis C.K. made me laugh my ass off the hardest.
Also, Joe Rogan's live show gets honorable mention

John Pinette - Show me the buffet, Free willy. This guy makes my sides split. For a classic comic hands down George Carlin.
I love Pinette's "cherubic demeanor," too--minus the fart jokes, though. I also love Mitch Hedberg, Bill Cosby (when not being overly traditional), Carlin (language observations mostly), Gerry Dee, most observational-humor that doesn't draw too heavily on existing stereotypes or fluffy gimmicks.

Phil Hartman was always hilarious to me. I still remember where I was when the news came that he'd been murdered- shocking. RIP, fellow Canadian...

Mitch Hedberg was the best and he would've only gotten funnier if we hadn't have lost him so soon.

My favorite comedian is The Comedian. (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.) :wiseguy:
Otherwise, I like the physical comedic stylings of Bruce Campbell, Ted Raimi, Jeffrey Combs, and Jim Carrey (though they're not necessarily "comedians" in the traditional sense). Laurel & Hardy. Abbot & Costello. Buster Keaton (who Wall-E was partially based on). The Three Stooges. Stuff like that.

Bill Bailey, Demetri Martin. Several others but I don't want to think about this right now. Wrong frame of mind.
