or did i just finish my work way too early... today is tuesday and i have nothing else to do 'til friday (unless someone throws me his crap again, i'll be loaded). i guess i've been too oc and have exagerated the idea of finishing work before deadline. i'm feeling uneasy right now hearing everyone buzzing and cussing because of work while i, on the other hand, am reading a fantasy novel so from time to time, i open my "empty" mail box and clibk on buttons or mess my table so as to look busy...
err hehehe

sounds tempting but my mind wants to cast spells on Darkfriends and telepathically talk to wolves. ;D

I have trouble finishing up my work. I would feel that the drive of completing a job will dissipate when the job is almost finished. It's almost like I dont want to be judged for the finished job. I believe it's my need off perfection that does this to me. If I dont finish it, then I need not be judged if the work is perfect.
Anyone face the same problem? Any tips to overcome this?

Overcoming laziness? I don't. It's fun. I am an evil procrastinator. But then, that is oftimes useful. The last minute is always the best minute to do everything at once. Your brain will inevitably be working with all kinds of information towards whatever your goal is supposed to be, so, at the last second, what seem to be flashes of inspiration strike you. Lots of time to read books before that. Of course, if you are speaking of some larger project that can't be done in a couple of awesomely frantic hours, you would have to then obtain some other advice, I guess.

It isn't laziness, It is efficiency. I have been telling people that for years.

I am starting to think it's a problem of not having the big picture in me.... how well formed are your big picture in life?

I can't FINISH my work. I have been reading for biochemistry for the past week (I had reading week), and I have to sort out the notes for biochem, vertebrate biology, write out the reading notes for the next three lectures for biochem, and write my paper on pineal glandular function.

Actually my driving force to finish is that I *hate* being late. This goes to assignments too. I have to finish on time. So no matter what I'll get it done and that's my driving force.
My big picture is pretty well formed. But still. I would say just not being late motivates me more than anything. And keeping my word. I can't go back on my word. Due to that I will *always be there* when I say I will (well early of course because early's on time) and I will *always* finish assignments on time.

I always have a whole stack of stuff waiting for me...
It's an endless task...
and so I always procrastinate... there are so much more interesting things than sitting here and trying in vain to complete all this crap...
AGH...
SOMEONE, reverse this psychology!
I'm lazy as hell too...
the only thing that makes me work is that I hate having to see in hindsight that, "I could have done better if only..."
Whoops... sorry about the double post... this is reply/continuation to gnat's post

If you hadn't started your work, and were reading the novel then "lazy" might apply. But you've finished and now you're coasting - that's not lazy, that's being quick!
Here at work (where I place most of my posts) I sit at my desk 6 hours a day doing absolutely nothing – work-related, that is. that's because I can do what is considered 8 hours of work in two hours. The rest of the day is mine.
You can't help it if the rest of the folks can't keep up with your pace.

I'm lazy as hell, with random bursts of extreme activity in between.
For instance, I haven't really picked up much in my room since I moved into it in April (I mean, aside from dusting and vacuuming and making half-hearted attempts to organize), but this weekend I cleaned the bathroom sink, which snowballed into me noticing every little thing I'd been putting off for months and trying to rectify it all on the same day.
I've been trying to stop being so lazy and pace myself in the past few months, though, since it doesn't work so well with project-based homework to do everything at the end. I got tired of thinking "I could've made that awesome if I'd just had a little more time...oh wait, I did have more time, but I thought it would be better to watch Heroes/screw around on Fark.com/play with the cat/etc instead of working on it". Heh.

I'm chronically lazy unless there is something to work on that I am intensely interested in, and then I will focus on it for hours and lose track of time.

...and the prob with this is everyone in the office thinks you're slacking off coz you're doing absolutely nothing when they fuss over stuff...
i do tend to be lazy sometimes when i don't get an "inner drive" to work. like TruorTupnm, there are times when Ni works at the last minute giving you all the ideas you need.

I fear judgment, too.
I have to keep reminding myself there's no such thing as perfect.
I have to remember most things don't need to be perfect.
I have to remember finished imperfectly is better than unfinished perfectly.
I have to tell myself "Just do it."
Also I have spent many years working on my self-image and learning that I have value apart from my performance, among other things.
