It really creeps me out if I'm getting it on with my GF and there is a pet (dog or cat) in the room. I feel as if they're watching--and that's because they usually are. I go so far as to kick the pet out of the room and shut the door.
Is this normal or am I a bit high-strung?
Edit: Humorous annecdotes are welcome and encouraged
Imagine you're used to seeing somebody walking around on two feet, wearing clothes, etc... then imagine suddenly they're naked, laying on top of somebody else, and both parties are making funny noises. You'd stare too :p
Honestly though, it's never happened to me. I imagine it would feel pretty creepy though.

It doesn't bother me, I think it's amusing.

Doesn't bother me either. I mean, I get a kick out of watching animals getting it on. Why can't they with us?

This reminds me of that movie "Best in Show", a mockumentary about dog shows and owners. There a scene where a couple are talking to some kind of doctor, perhaps a therapist, expressing their concerns when their kid walked in on them having sex, saying things like "We told him it's a beautiful thing when mommy and daddy make love. He hasn't been speaking much and we're worried." Turns out the "kid" they were talking about was their pet dog.
Although you could theorize that animals, being themselves members of the universal realm of carnal knowledge, can recognize the act of sex, it's pretty safe to say they don't care either way. What does bother me, though, is when someone's cat is napping on the bed and refuses to move to make room for people trying to play pelvic pinochle. Selfish prigs.

They're not bothered by doing it infront of us so why should you be infront of them.
They don't care. It's not like they go, "hey, look, they're NAKED! Let's WATCH! WOOT!".
No, I feel the same way about pets. It's almost like there's another person watching.

When I first saw this thread I LOLed. Sorry. I laughed at the title. I said WTF?
Okay, so I feel the same as you. I could never make love in front of my dog. Are you kidding me? She is so intelligent that she almost communicates with me. For example when I forget to refill her water bowl and she needs water she comes into the kitchen and barks once. When she is hungry she comes in with an angry expression and makes barking actions but without sound. When she wants to be left alone (obviously she is introverted), she goes under the dining room table and when she wants attention she gives me a lick kiss. And when she wants to go out she stands in front of the door and barks until I come.
Sorry I went off topic, but no way! I can never have her in the room!

Then they started doing it.
I think that was the end of that.

Omg...This thead is hilarious. Sorry. I also feel a bit strange when the cats are sitting on the bed. The dogs could give a shit and are usually sleeping.

I know how you feel...our over protective jelous boxer goes crazy she sits at the edge of the bed and barks...then again she barks at me anytime I get near her master (my husband) she is totally his dog.

This thread is hilarious. It is my humble opinion that animals do not know what's going on when you are having sex. If they did, they might want to join in.
The cat used to watch all fo the time. The only thing he was interested in was when we were done so he could get fed or attention.

Really? Your avatar suggests that you wouldn't mind, except you don't want your GF to get jealous. ;)
No, I agree with you though. I lock my animals in the garage when I go animal. I thought it was just an OCD thing, I don't like them watching me pee either.
It doesn't bother me, I think it's amusing.
You don't ignore it but you find it amusing while having sex or you just find it amusing after having sex to think about what the pet thought? I hope it is the latter.

LOL. Beautiful. Thanks. *still laughing*
I agree with above statements that this is a funny thread.
Also, I wouldn't let my cat into the room, 'cause she pretty much owns me and I suspect that much yowling would ensue. >.<

As long as they don't try to participate, I'm fine with them being in the room.

I have not had my dog very long and haven't had any lovers since she came to my home. To her, even after only a few months, I am HER person and this is HER home. I am afraid when/if I am having sex with a man in this house, my dog will think he is hurting me and attack him. So I'd probably put her outside the room and shut the door. Then she will just whimper and whine the whole time, wanting to get into the room to save me. Silly dog.

We have three greyhounds. We're lucky if they are not on the bed with us! If it bothered us, we'd never do it cause they are always around.
During our first time, my greyhound put her cold needle nose in a very private place of my future wife. I was much more amused than she was. Surprised she stuck around! :lovestruck:

I remember walking out of my shower once with nothing on, and my cat was standing outside.
I felt judged.....It was awkward.
so no. I'd never "do it " in front of a pet. LOL

It's just funny amusing while having sex, yes. Innocent interruption by pets, it's light and unexpected.
One of my best sexual memories is having 3 of my boyfriend at the time's cats on the bed while were were in it, one of them purring in my ear. Not that the cats were sexy, but it was like everything we were doing was natural I guess.
It only bothers me if they start distracting me, then I will just move them. It's still kind of funny.

My cat refuses to watch. She will leave the room in disgust. I'm pretty sure she doesn't respect me anymore. :(

We kick the cat out, unless it is more spontaneous. Then the cat usually runs away.

Last dog I had used to join in on kisses. Especially the mouth variety.
Obviously keeping that particular specimen in the same room is out of the question, that's just bound to be awkward and/or raise questions of bestiality.

When I hear screams, I want to know they are coming from her and not from the cat I accidentally kicked.

My cats will stay on the bed as if nothing's happening. Occasionally one will be in the way and I'll just slide it over (which will sometimes start the purr-motor going). I've found them tucked into the covers afterward.
It doesn't bother me unless the kitten starts chasing toes and biting them.

It is even more freaky when there is a row of beany babies and other bizarre fluffly toys sitting on the headboard watching you whilst you are trying to orgasm.
Death to all fluffly toys except teddybears who I would accept but only if not watching...

The only purpose a stuffed toy has is to shove behind the headboard to keep it from hitting the wall.
And it won't be watching.

Dogs know what you're doing. I suppose they can smell the phermones.

Who knows what a cat thinks? He could have been plotting to kill you after you fell asleep.

Toes are not the only thing that they can attack.

This is the funniest thread. I absolutely don't care. The problem, typically, that the animal may get in the way, bark (if you have a dog), or cause some other disruption. In which case, I wouldn't want the pet in the room. But if it's a quiet pet, minding it's own business on another piece of furniture, not making noise, I could care less.
I don't turn the pictures of all of the relatives over either...

Whatever does it for you, people.
Please note: the dog watched, whining, until we made the master/pack relationship clear. Now he just tucks head down and goes to sleep.

If they want to watch, teach them to fetch the toys you need.

The cats don't stay long once we start.
Although once when I was with my ex and we were in the living room the dog came in the doggy door and and walked right up behind him and licked his butt. I was so busy laughing I forgot what we had been doing and he was mad and telling me not to tell anyone and I didn't........... until the next time we all played poker.

True. I know a guy whose kitty thought his testicles were a new cat toy.

This happened to one of my classmates, the result was him accidentally, uh, thrusting so hard his girlfriend smashed her face into the headboard of their bed and broke her nose. Miraculously enough she stuck around too. Maybe because it was HER cat.
I haven't experienced it and I'm not sure if it'd bug me or not. I think I'd probably shoo them out anyways though.
Ha, never been in that situation, nor have I ever had a (mammalian) pet. Really have no idea how I would feel about that. Was not sexually active until I moved into my university residence where no pets are allowed either. However, my girlfriend has a pet dog so I guess it will be interesting to see how that goes once we are out of residence...

I'd fear the animal was going to get confused and try to eat my junk, so I wouldn't even do sex with a pet in the room, not to mention it feeling awkward. A human's bad enough.

I used to suffer the cat; but it was easy to be put off when your thinking 'is the cat watching us!?'
