I'm a Centrist on the Liberal-Conservative spectrum (leaning towards liberalism) and Libertarian. I'm wondering if INTJs are similar on their take on politics? I hope you're all ok with the poll being public. I realize that the spectrum is 3D, so there might be some 'mixes', hence the option to choose more than once.

I do not have allegiance to any party, and if they changed, my voting pattern would reflect it.
I think based on what is best for the economy and therefore the populace. I think government serves to protect our basic human rights, mantain order, and keep up an infrastructure. Besides that, I see nothing as absolutely necessary. I also prefer to pare down the scope of the government so it does not overstep its bounds or sprawl outside of its area of functional purpose.
I could be considered a Libertarian with fairly strong conservative leanings. I do however disagree with plenty of conservative ideas, mostly those that involve the unnecessary expansion of government and intrusion upon the citizens by the passage of overbearing laws.
I think the best way to define how government should make its decisions is that it should do whatever is best for the economy, with a special consideration for human rights. (Legalizing professional hitmen would eliminate the economic inefficiency, but violate human rights.)

I've always read that the 'whatever-works' take on politics fit in the Centrist area.
Centrists espouse a "middle ground" regarding government control of the economy and personal behavior. Depending on the issue, they sometimes favor government intervention and sometimes support individual freedom of choice. Centrists pride themselves on keeping an open mind, tend to oppose "political extremes," and emphasize what they describe as "practical" solutions to problems.

I'm a moderate, I don't goto extremes at either end.
I wouldn't fit as Libertarian because I believe some intervention is necessary, no not corporate bailouts but as in some environmental and safety regulations.

My social ideologies pretty much mirror what my foreign policy would be if I were "the man": leave me alone, and I'll leave you alone. Piss me off, I'll fire zee missiles then go back to sorting my music.

Are you sure you're not confusing "conservative" with "Republican?"
I'm a conservative and, for the most part, have a tough time taking the politics/politicians of the Republican Party. Libertarians, in my view, have followed their beliefs to a logical conclussion, but it leaves them wholly impractical. Open borders? No ctizenship? Live and let live foreign policy? Sounds nice, but that leads to immediate domination from outsiders and a quick end to the libertarian paradise, unless there's an outside force offering protection at no real cost.
The Republican Party has space for a small government, slash spending, keep trained men on the walls at night to visit hell upon our enemies, slow down our more breathless citizens so they don't jump on every progressive bandwagon type. Though, admittedly, it has really kicked folks like me in the teeth the last few years. They get no money from me, obviously.

I am not that clear on the distinction between the two (I just have my intuitive understanding, not a list of common stances). I think we certainly should have our system of citizenship. As for immigration policies, those clash with the welfare system, and it is hard to fix them separately. It's one killer combo when you try to clean it up.
The issues I was referring to might apply to both Republicans and Conservatives. For example, I support medical marijuana, which I think tends towards a Liberal view.

Well, I'm considered a conservative, but I have no problem with medical marijuana. I'm also not in favor of the death penalty (also considered a modernday liberal view). I have mixed emotions about the War on Drugs, though I've never used illegal drugs and wouldn't if they were suddenly legal. Beer works for me.
The distinction between the two is that "Republican" is a party affiliation and with that comes some of the disgusting horse-trading, pork barrell projects, and sweet special interest deals that almost every politician (Democrat, Republican, Green) seems to find ethical once they're elected.
Essentially, Republican politicians give conservatives a bad name, in my opinion.

I got libertarian - though it seems to me like the world's smallest political quiz (designed by a member of the libertarian party) is designed to make people come out as libertarian.
For instance "cut taxes and spending 50%" sounds good.
Cut defence, healthcare and education 50%, so you can cut the corporate tax 50% is probably not going to win over many people.
I consider myself a moderate libertarian (as in, if there was a Democratic or Republican type big tent party, advocating libertarian-leaning solutions, while also being a politically viable force by remaining somewhat moderate, it would have my support) for the record.

defend civil liberties and free expression, support government action
to promote equality, and tolerate diverse lifestyles.

Fiscally conservation; we need a social safety net and a large enough government to avoid extreme disparities(monopolies/companies "too big to fail"/wealth gap that's happening right now), have law and order and an infrastructure but right now we waste way too much and give too many hand out to cry babies. Especially California, hand outs galore. Washington seems to have it down pretty good. Also we need Europe to actually have an army so we don't have to play world police and get our way all the time.
Socially liberal; teach evolution, teach creationist in theology class not science. Pro choice first trimester. Legalize and tax pot, alcohol and cigarettes are just as bad. Would result in less crowded jails, more tax revenues less crime and a lot of lazy pot heads, but it's not like the war on drugs is working now.
Wish we didn't have a two party system or there was at least a significant difference between the candidates.

LIBERTARIANS support maximum liberty in both personal and economic matters. They advocate a much smaller government; one that is limited to protecting individuals from coercion and violence. Libertarians tend to embrace individual responsibility, oppose government bureaucracy and taxes, promote private charity, tolerate diverse lifestyles, support the free market, and defend civil liberties.

Libertarian. However the corollary to the question of ending govt barriers to free trade is removing barriers/boundaries to free passage - a decidedly dangerous thought if you don't want to get swamped with the world's masses.

I am not that clear on the distinction between the two (I just have my intuitive understanding, not a list of common stances). I think we certainly should have our system of citizenship. As for immigration policies, those clash with the welfare system, and it is hard to fix them separately. It's one killer combo when you try to clean it up.
Generalizing and simplifying somewhat....
Constitution: both are strict constructionist.
Economy: both are laissez-faire
Social issues: libertarians are laissez-faire about all personal choices at federal, state, and local levels--the logical extreme of "personal freedoms." Conservatives seek federal non-involvement in social issues, but with regulation at the state and local levels those choices which fall under the umbrella of Traditional American (read, Judeo-Christian) values. This is an assertion of States' rights over the Federal government.
Foreign Policy: libertarians tend towards defensive action against direct threats, only. Conservatives are open to defense via a good offense, and are aggressive in pursuing US interests abroad.
In practice, Conservatives and small-l libertarians form a key constituency of the Republican Party. The Libertarian Party, as a political force, is disorganized and fairly impotent, largely because it makes a conscious effort to remain ideologically pure rather than engage in realpolitik.
According to an essay hung on the Libertarian Party's website (a few months ago, it might still be there), some Libertarians recognizes that if they want their party to be viable, they will have to reach out to those of us on the libertarian/conservative border. It seems willing to do so on issues of foreign policy, but reluctant to compromise on its position in social issues.

Interesting that so many INTJs are libertarians...
What causes it in your opinion?
update - I tried the second test (and liked it much more) - and had a very similar result.
Still, I used to be much more of a libertarian a year ago.

LIBERALS usually embrace freedom of choice in personal
matters, but tend to support significant government control of the
economy. They generally support a government-funded "safety net"
to help the disadvantaged, and advocate strict regulation
of business. Liberals tend to favor environmental regulations,
defend civil liberties and free expression, support government action
to promote equality, and tolerate diverse lifestyles.

Alright, I already took this quiz on the previous thread, however, I have a bone to pick with it so here it goes.
This test does not minimize the spin on political quizzes, instead, if anything, it increases it by dramatically simplifying sometimes complex issues.
Repeal laws prohibiting adult possession and use of drugs
One might have the gut reaction to say yes, but what about roofies? Sure, a lot of people might still say yes, but it would dramatically change the answers for some people who would necessarily think about this.
Military service should be voluntary. There should be no draft.
This is two statements. The first could logically be extended to people already serving in the military. That changes things. The second is more or less straightforward, but people's opinions can easily change on it.
Government should not censor speech, press, media or Internet.
What about self-censorship by the government? As in not allowing certain government employees to disclose information about their activities or knowledge?
Cut taxes and government spending by 50% or more.
Touchy issue. Most people want taxes cut, but will be horribly upset when some service gets cut as a result.
Replace government welfare with private charity.
Tax deductibles do this. Also, what qualifies as welfare? It's not really replacing either, if total welfare/charity takes a big cut in the process.
Let people control their own retirement; privatize Social Security.
You can. Social security is supposed to function as a safety net of sorts (of course, it's been significantly changed from its original function because of stupid writers not accounting for future demographic changes).
End government barriers to international free trade.
Now, this can easily get into exchange rates and currency matters. But, in general I don't have too many issues with this one.
The quiz also covers a fairly small amount of topics.

I always considered myself a "republican/conservative" now I'm in the middle depending on issue...it's accurate.
40%/40%
CENTRISTS espouse a "middle ground" regarding government control of the economy and personal behavior. Depending on the issue, they sometimes favor government intervention and sometimes support individual freedom of choice.
Centrists pride themselves on keeping an open mind,
tend to oppose "political extremes," and emphasize what
they describe as "practical" solutions to problems.
