It is also a good litmus test. I usually don't like to be around people who don't "get" it. They tend to be slow and boring. I was curious to see if any of my fellow INTJs were offended by it?

By their attacks on Christianity, yeah I'm quite offended by that. Not offended by anything else though.

I have never watched an episode, but I saw one of their "funny" songs about the FCC. It was a complaint about the restrictions on nudity and language on television.
It was not all that funny, and they made it quite crude. I disliked it.
Perhaps they are funnier when they joke about funnier topics, though.

I'll usually watch it when it's on if I don't have anything better to do. And it's on about forty times and on sixteen different channels every day, so I watch it a lot.

I've only recently started watching it... thanks to my ESFP sister of all people. I find it interesting, but mainly when it involves Stewie.... the other characters can be downright annoying sometimes. I find the continuous attempts at matricide amusing.

The Simpson's & Southpark are Way Way WAY > than Family Guy. Family guy doesn't have the same intuitive depth in humor as the formers.

I tend to agree, personally. Futurama also has it's moments.

Stewie just STEALS the show.

The Simpsons, I'll warrant that (though I still prefer Family Guy) but South Park is a no. South Park used to be good until they got rid of Chef. That was the final knife for me, as he was one of the greatest characters IMO (along with Tweak, I found him hilarious). Nowadays, it's just a boring show that just "pushes the envelope" but has nothing to show for it.
Oh, and let's not forget Beavis and Butthead. Damn, I like that show even more than Family Guy, damn funny stuff.

Brian has such a stimulating voice and personality.. which disturbs me very much because he's a dog. :P

Yeah, Futurama's good, too. Apparently, it has a lot of math nerd jokes in it. I know a guy who will pause the show, read an equation or something in the background, and burst out laughing.

I think South Park nailed Family Guy in the "Cartoon Wars" episodes: a bunch of random jokes revolving around "clever" pop culture references. Some of them are funny. Most of them aren't.
Just my opinion, of course. The implication that people who don't like the show just don't "get it" is rather narrow-minded, though.
I watch for Stewie <33333

I like Family Guy, but I would not use the word 'Genius' as a descriptor. SouthPark is much smarter, and more relevant. I'm not sure why SouthPark took aim at FG; but I don't think it was necessary... the audiences aren't exactly the same.
SouthPark's hit on Bike Enthusiasts was an amazing episode, but then they followed it with a quite ridiculous ep. on pee.... They aren't always on top of their game, but I'd still take a weak SP episode over FG.
In any case, I'd take Robot Chicken over either show... ;)

Family Guy
Cleveland Show
American Dad
All follow the exact same formula, only one is funny (family guy). 33% hit rate aint bad Seth McFarlane.
I enjoy the show, its been pretty consistent with the humor for all the years it was running, even after the hiatus.
The earlier episodes I vaguely remember were better I think, now it's allmost really like Southpark described with seacows and balls. It used to have more depth or something. What they do now is still a little fun though, Stewie is allways hilarious but every episode could easily be so much better. I wonder why they've choosen to do it like this. Southpark > Family Guy.

Jesus this is an old thread.
But yes, I used to enjoy Family guy. Its gotten kind of old for me now though.

I think Seth McFarlane is stretching himself thin with the Cleveland Show. Although you do have to Family Guy credit for being able to make a comeback after being canceled.

agreed family guy = Genius.. nuh huh. it's my least favorite of the cartoons I watch. I do watch it now and again though. it has it's moments. it's mostly banal though. Stewie and Brian are the only worthwhile parts of the show.
South park, Simpsons and Futurama are far superior shows. Futurama is by far the best of the lot.

I watched before their cancellation, I don't understand how such an awesome show managed to get cancelled other than that the people who failed to recognize its awesomeness before are morons, I am glad for its return ... except when they tell certain kinds of jokes e.g. Brian barking at black extras, I don't care that it's a race joke, and yes I get the reference to the film but it's not fucking funny is what the problem is, it's not even a real joke, it's just an awkwardness. Some of the vile shit they do to Meg is just grotesque, I can't see the humour in it and prefer the way she was treated back when it was Lacy Chabert playing her, I mean some of the anti meg jokes are alright but jeze. Otherwise, it's a damn good show ... then again, some of the culture references are occasionally ridiculous but anyway, yea, it's good show, good show and luckily there's the Family Guy to make us laugh and cry et cetera.

Oh and some of the cripple jokes about Joe are just ... I mean, some of them are obviously funny "We had what Joe calls sex" or Peter retarded finding of Joe's disability to be immoral but the ones that are just designed to be hurtful suck. I'm not sure how they're suppose to be funny, they're almost certainly making the show significantly less enjoyable for the wheelchair bound.

I enjoy the show, but I don't make it a point to watch it. If I'm flipping through and bored and it's on I'll usually stay on it.
The shows themselves are pointless; they aren't "deep" at all like South Park but I do find the comedy better. It's forced and nothing really makes sense but hey it works. It gets me to laugh. It does help to be fairly smart in order to get almost all the jokes. If you aren't very wise then several of the jokes won't really make sense to you.
My ISTJ wife likes the show more than me, which I find weird. It's like therapy for her. Stewie is her favorite. My favorites are probably Brian and Lois.

I must have watched every episode at least twice. It never gets old. There are some episodes that are boring/not funny though.

I like that it's out there fighting the good fight for political incorrectness, but a lot of the stuff is hit or miss.

I find a lot of the references funny (the “Hanker for a Hunk of Cheese” guy, “The More You Know”) and also some of the drawn-out strangeness (Stewie doing "Rocket Man," any Adam West material that lasts for more than three seconds) and some of the violence ("Where's my money, man."). On a laughs-per-episode basis, Family Guy is a very good show.
Though I have a pretty high tolerance for savage humor, I can see why people are upset by Family Guy. There are times when it descends into something that seems too much like vindictiveness, and whenever I’ve seen Seth McFarland interviewed he has done a beautiful impersonation of a narcissistic jerk.
But what I think about McFarland hasn’t made me stop watching the show. Miles Davis was also a bad guy. Still a good trumpet player.
"I mean like that messed up way that you laugh when you think that something is really, really funny?"

I'll watch Family Guy once in a while. I won't go out of my way to watch it but it's good once in a while for the low brow humour. It's nowhere near as intelligent as the Simpsons has gotten over the years even if they're starting to run out of ideas. It's not as racy as South Park which pulls no punches when addressing the issues. It is however, simple enough for most of America to "get". Brian is awesome because of all the "leberal crap" he's always going on about and Stewie is a typical INTJ. Stewie is awesome.
I've seen a couple episodes of Cleveland show, I must say I like it. They're actually more believable as characters and ergo more relatable.

I love Family Guy, but could never get into American Dad. I’m not sure why. I really wanted to like that show but I just didn’t find it funny.
