View Full Version : What type of personality would the character of Ender be?
Ender's game is a book that greatly appealed to me. What type of personality would the character of Ender be? He seems like an extremely good strategist and often acts logically. Sometimes his pent-up emotions go out in huge spurts.
I am also wondering if this kind of geniouses combine and exclude from society appeals to INTJs in general.

Loved the book as a young person - I related to Ender on so many levels. The sequels much less so - Orson Scott Card seemed to turn him into a Jesus figure to me and I really wasn't interested in a Jesus in space novel. Ender's Shadow was satisfying though.
I think we probably are drawn to the excluded genius that ultimately saves everyone's ass. I certainly like to believe that someday all the crap I'm stuffing in my head will turn out to be invaluable in a life or death situation!

maybe intp? but later, he seems a bit f ish, maybe from maturity--having encountered alien and machine-based life forms.
A wonderful book and series.
Fight Club has some similarities, just with added graphic violence!

I actually convinced two people to read Ender's Game in just the past month. It's my all-time favorite book. Even though I'm not a kid anymore, and even though this book is totally fictional, it just gets to me how intelligent Ender is at such a young age. I've been talking about this series a lot lately, (to a lot of different types, not just INTJ) and everyone seems to agree that somehow it gets inside of you. Maybe it's because Ender is a true hero. Or maybe Card practices voodoo.
I don't know exactly what Ender would be, but I would definitely type Bean as INTJ.

I first read the book many years ago and have reread it several times since. I found the book intriuging because the book goes deep into the intricate and personal thoughts of the introverted child prodigy who was in constant struggle with bullies and other enviornmental conflicts. I found the sequels to be almost boring, and the shadow books not half bad if not complete knock offs of the original.
Don't know about ender (maybe an infp?) but I would guess bean would be an INTJ. I found myself relating to bean. Though I got good grades and did well in sports, I was still a loner and always felt like I was very different from my peers.

I haven't read the Shadow books in a while, so I can't really say about Bean. As for Ender...it seems to me that he has parts of a few different types. INTJ, INTP, and perhaps INFP all seem to sort of match him. Maybe an INTJ with very strong Fi, but I don't know that he really fits into a type well.
Surprisingly, my favorite character ended up being Graff. For some reason, I always like the wise old man archetypes in stories.
I agree, it would be restrictive to pin Ender down as a single type.

I never really got "wise old man" out of Graff. More like "fat sarcastic man".

I could relate to Peter pretty well in some respects (he was deemed unsuitable, but his brother wasn't; the thought of "This should have been me")…he might be an extrovert, though.
(I only read one or two of the Homecoming books, and it was a while ago, but I felt the same way about Elemak. Nafai seemed too saintly.)
