Attack first, ask questions later.

Nah, I gather up the equipment/stuff I know I need to get me through a certain part, maybe just a bit more in case then precede. However, my sisters and father would wander around trying to collect EVERYTHING. So as they were doing such, and I got enough weapons and defenses, then I went after them, ruthlessly.

I do the same with MMOs. ^_^

(Yes, I prefer RPGs)

How to play Tetris:

Plug in your Nintendo system, blow into game cartridge, insert cartridge into system, hit reset multiple times.

Turn off game sound or mute TV, turn on desired playlist, start new type A game, begin playing.

Keep playing until your thumbs do one of the following: hurt, cramp up, go numb.

Depends on the genre. I play games of all kinds. In RPGs, I tend to be a packrat. In team-based shooters, a favorite of mine, I prefer support classes. In strategy games, like Civilization, I take a quality-over-quantity approach.

I'm definitely a completionist. I don't like half-playing a game. I do all the side quests.

I like to replay a game until I'm perfect act almost everything. My brother plays a game until he defeats it then never plays it again.

I replay all the oldschool NES/SNES/SEGA GEN games.

Before I can even turn the console on though...

...Gotta bake some lemon shortbread cookies.

Otherwise I seem to be the same as Synch. I packrat and take SOME support roles or other times I'm straight up dps.

With fighting games, I used to have a really methodical and strategic approach to opponents, until Tekken 5 introduced that SNK Boos Syndrome-case Jinpachi, that son-of-a-bitch! I'm a button masher these days.

I'm rarely competitive unless it's Street Fighter IV. I play retro games in a relaxed manner. I tend to play JRPGS in long burst, then a month break, and long burst again.

I'm the opposiate. I often abandon an old game half way through for a new one. Can't remember the last game I finished. I will finish FFXIII though.

In games like Civilization, I am a perfectionist/isolationist. Back when I played Civ II, I would only build like 6-8 cities, but each city would have EVERY possible improvement! I also would attempt to fortify nearby mountains to create an isolated area for my "country."

In most other games (like shooters), I try to learn the mechanics and use them to my advantage as much as possible.

In old console games like "Super Metroid" or "Secret of Mana" I try for a record, such as either how fast I can beat the game, or if I can collect every item (or every level), etc.

Well lets see, I start at 8 in the evening and I finish at 4-6 in the morning . All depends from the game that I am playing . Example playing FFXIII one DVD , wont stop till I complete it . That's how , it is with all games that I play . I tend to get all unlockables , all achievements , and all upgrades and elite items. When I start , I just prefer to complete the whole game . :)

Unreal Tournament 1999 is still my favourite internet game. I play on average 3 hours a week online....have gotten really good with time. Bolt action rifle with a ping of 250 is a good rush when you land a headshot on a moving target :D

I tend to be very competetive, go for the throat. Except in RPGs and cooperative games, where I tend to find some niche role to fill.

Not a pack rat, nor a completionist. I let the details slide and focus on the big picture.

Hmm...at the moment I'm playing through FFXIII. For the first time I'm actually playing through it with a friend of mine. We bought only one copy of the game to play it in this way. I think we both like this because it takes whatever is bad about the game and makes it good, because we have someone to make wisecracks to. Hell, we even have running gags. So that's a lot of fun. When we run into something challenging we pretty much try new approaches until something seems to improve and then try to refine that. That seems to fit in general.

I'm a pretty significant completionist, at least in single player RPGs. I've done things like beat Omega Weapon in FF8 and get all the Celestial Weapons in FFX.

Multiplayer games, though, and Starcraft in particular...jeez, I don't know how to even get started with that sort of description.

I tend to play PC games. But here goes.

Civilization 3: Pick a civilization. I tend to favour the agricultural and scientific traits. Agricultural is especially good. Beeline to research monarchy. In meantime, build a couple warriors to do some exploration. Then build some workers and finally another settler. Use settler to build a new city in spot that will have good growth rate, turn this city into a settler factory and grab as much land as possible. New cities should build a couple defensive units, then a library, barracks, and walls. Then they build workers to help connect the empire/ settlers if necessary. Switch to monarchy when possible. While this is going on, trade with the other civs to keep up with techs. Go to war to make my borders what I feel is appropriate, and/or humble the neighbouring civs. Once we hit industrial ages, then things begin in earnest. Build railroads, and establish colonies(I call them colonies, but technically they are actually cities, the civ3 colony mechanic borders on useless) to secure resources. Some general hints for warfare in civ3, the AI is stupid. I can have the entire world going against me, and I will still win. The key is to have a crapload of artillery. I'd say 60 at minimum, 140 if you have the resources. The rest of military should consist of a few defensive units, and a moderate number of fast offensive units, like cavalry. The AI doesn't really count artillery in calculating how powerful your are, which makes wars both fun and frequent.

Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines: This obviously has the prequel of installing and getting the damn game to work. It is highly buggy, so install the official patch, and the unofficial patch as well, otherwise the game will die in several spots. But it is worth the trouble, the game is awesome(except for the sodding sewer level). I love to play Malkavians, they get hilarious dialogue options. I generally play ninja type characters. Max out strength and melee, advance overall persuasion to 6 and seduction to 4, I recommend at least 3 ranks in dementation, or even maxing it out. Max out obfuscate, and moderately advance stealth. In advancing stealth, it helps to promote dexterity instead of just focussing on stealth skill, since that will improve your stealth score and lockpicking.

Elder Scrolls 3, Morrowind: I have had this game for years, but have never actually gotten around to completing it. I install a crapload of mods and just go about building my own private fiefdom. I find this more enjoyable than trying to finish the main quest, and I have yet to be bothered to do so with any of my characters. I typically play obscenely powerful Telvanni mages. In summary, alchemy is hideously overpowered, but that is why I like it.;)

Depends on the game.

Metal Gear Solid's I play in a lot of ways. I've played just for the story, getting every item, as fast as possible (you can play them out in 2 hours if you try hard), playing that no one sees you, collecting dogtags in mgs2, just play around, find easter eggs and glitches, kill everybody with close quarter combat, play around with stealth, play around with the unlimited ammo bandana, all difficultygrades, no radar and combine all these factors. These games have a lot of replay value for me.

Final Fantasy the first time I play just for the story, all times after those I play to create a perfect party and try to do all sidequests which are fun or get me items for my perfect party.

COD4 I'm quite competitive. I play very fair; no p90, saw, grenadelauncher, camping, claymores, grenade perk, last stand, martyrdom, cheats, juggernaut, throwing random grenades. It's just simply egocentric to use these things. The game can get quite on my nerves if I get owned by lesser players, that's when I start using desert eagle only. When I play with only a desert eagle it's obvious my score isn't that good and when I play with handgun only my playing will become better, sometimes I'm really good with just handgun.
I only use UAV jammer, extreme condition, bomb squad (though now I'm reading bandolier doesn't give you more clips but more rounds in each clip, so I'll probably replace bomb squad for bandolier now), most weapons with silencer otherwise red dot.

Elder Scrolls 4: I like doing all those quests and collecting stuff, I've played the game 2 times 50 hours or something and just the third time did I feel like finishing the main story. Mostly I'm an assasin like character, I love killing people from a distance unnoticed, being somewhere I shouldn't be, stealing without knowing.

Shadow of the Colossus I just like to ride on Agro the horse exploring the beautiful landscape playing with the colossi and just doing nothing but look in awe at how beautiful it is.

Escapist / Singleplayer Games:

Explore it and appreciate the experience. Go a really long time before playing it again. Don't care for besting my previous run unless something new happens.
Super Metroid, Metroid Prime, Donkey Kong Country, Chrono Trigger, Ocarina Of Time, Half-Life 2, Silent Hill, Return To Castle Wolfenstein, etc -- old roms, Nintendo games, fun PC games, indie games, any well made adventure game.

Competitive / Multiplayer Games:

I play to win, practically everyday, since having bought the game.
I don't have many of these (on purpose). Red Alert 2 Yuri's Revenge (since 2001), Team Fortress 2 (since last year, replaced Soldiers Of Fortune II)... and if I still had a copy and IRL gaming buddies: Perfect Dark (N64 console, not for PC)

I like to play evil twisted casters in RPG-s. I also enjoy crowd control and orchestrating the battlefield. Necromancers, warlocks, mesmers, etc, usually fit these criteria.

When I play, I do it with two kinds of meta-play in mind
1) simply playing. I tend to be methodic: completely solve a situation (annihilate an enemy, get what I want, solve a mistery...) then pass to the next.

2) observing the technology, thinking about how the AI is programmed, which tricks are used to get better effects with less CPU usage, how and if it can be modded, what could have done better and what is original.

I’m a hoarder. When I played FO 3 I picked up every tin can I saw till probably 5th level or more. I almost never play a game more than twice.

I got strung out on Everquest for about a year. I liked hangin out and being an armorer and arguing with dark elves about supply and demand. I also enjoyed fishing, a lot. Played intermediate roles I guess. Supportive yet able to pull and tank a little. Shaman, Bard, Ranger, but also liked my barbarian warrior a lot. Preferred to solo or with one other, but regularly joined groups. Was in a couple clans but they were very informal. I gave my account to a friend when I was done. I haven’t played any fantasy games since then.

When I play a shooter I will regularly replay a level to master the techniques to get past it, then move on. If it’s mission based I will go back and play individual missions for fun. Loved the AC 130 in Modern Warfare but probably didn’t play more than a few weeks. I haven’t played them on line since R6 Rogue Spear.
Any solo type games I play as stealthy as I can and snipe whenever possible.

I don’t own a console and never have. Well I did own a Fairchild game system ( To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.) in about 76’/77”.

I do have a heavily modded copy of Transport Tycoon ( To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.) that I fire up once every few years and play for a few weeks. Though I don’t play competitively. It’s just a really cool train set.

I went through a whole slew of games last year, mostly shooters, but games are reaching the limits of my machine. Tycoon type games I play heavily for a few weeks, mostly in sandbox mode then quit.

Favorite games:
Deus Ex, Half life series, FO3, No One Lives For Ever 1&2, Stalker SOC. Bioshock was good but not one of my favs.
Favorite old games:
XCom UFO Defense. (Also liked the UFO Aftermath series)
Fallout 1 & 2, Transport Tycoon. Then of course I can’t leave out Doom and Quake 1 & 2.

If I haven’t mentioned a game type, I don’t play it.

I take the quickest, most aggressive route. I keep the most powerful weapons and drop the rest unless they are useful.

For example, in Deus Ex, I prefer to blow off doors than waste a lockpick. :P

Second time around, I explore more prolifically.

I used to be a completionist to the point of ignoring any other hobbies. I've made an effort to make as much time for reading and writing as I do for gaming.

This means I end up leaving more and more games unfinished. Since I started sustaining a profitable income (which probably won't last much longer, but that's another topic) I actually buy lots of games at sale prices and sometimes won't get around to even trying something for months. I'm justifying most of my purchases expecting I won't have the same purchasing opportunities in the near-future--building up a horde, so to speak.

RPGs are my preferred genre, but I'm increasingly drawn to indie games. Over the last month I've been switching between Defense Grid: The Awakening, Borderlands DLC (with friends), Mass Effect 2, the Starcraft 2 beta, and most recently Gyromancer and Mega Man 10.

Create-your-character RPGs I tend to avoid strength-builds in favor of magic / range builds. But then in FPS's I tend to play very aggressively--the trend towards "take cover" shooters has annoyed me. I seem to be intuitively good at puzzle games. Otherwise, in general, I play to win for as long as I'm having fun.

Eh, I could go on and on about the specifics of my playstyle for may individual games but ins short: If can reasonably take a completionist stance with the game I will, I tend to have marathon sessions with a game that's caught my attention (New games will have me playing about half of each day for a week). in terms of how I play, I have a bit of a vice in that if I can't win elegantly and with style it's something needs to be improved upon; I set many, at times unreasonable, standards upon myself as I walk into a game, and will often tolerate starting the whole game over in order to get things just perfect; if there's a character I want to play a section as (No matter how unsuitable they may be for it) I will, if I want to perform a particular maneuver in the course of the match I will go to great lengths to do so, if I want to master a particular style I will, etc... Aside from this, I tend to be a natural at most games, picking them up quickly, and tend to be able to make many decisions in the game near instantly and intuitively, regardless of how little knowledge I might be provided(This is kind on annoying in dungeon crawlers, as I tend to inevitably find my way to the end without fully exploring the location). All in all, apart from my own traits that come in handy, the mentality that if I'm going to do something I'm going to do it right describes me well...I also like finding ways to make certain games as challenging as possible, finding ways to survive in high-level situations at low-levels, and jacking up difficulty settings as high as they go, Fallout 3 comes to mind, in that regard.

I try to take on multiple people at once... particularly first person shooters. It isn't that fun to me if the odds aren't 4 to 1 and I'm not a nuisance. :p

Halo CE: Back tracking for grenades, and then bombs away, yeehaa. Where can I place my grenades to cause maximum carnage, how quickly can I punch through this group of aliens. Then it's back to back tracking, finding a stash and going forward again. Oh this is just the campaign, not live.

Company of Heroes: just try to stay alive, i'm not very good, pick a spot on the map as a beach head, funnel all the troops through this spot, defend their attack and then immediately counter attack if possible.

I like problem solving games like Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. I've started playing games that relax me like playing Burnout Paradise during the night-cycle just driving to a low key play list. I also enjoy Smash Bros. melee and RPG's. I have the intention to 100% most games, or set a goal to complete (like all trophies (PS3)).
