The av picture MUST be 145 high by 115 wide, otherwise no-go.

It's really hard to find pics that fit that, eh? With no empty parts or borders- how many pictures are exactly those dimensions?

That's why this subforum is here. Post the image you want (even if it doesn't fit) and someone can resize it for you.

copying/pasting a pic into the right sized canvas, then flood fill/blend the borders for a standard pic( i rerendered my ava for the new dimensions)

I resized mine to 145x115 in Photoshop but it won't upload, I guess I'll do without.
(erm on second thoughts, it seems to appear with a post, though not in CP.)

Why on earth is it 145x115 anyways? Its such an awkward resolution.... The autoborder is weird as well o.o

Why'd you guys change it? My old avatar looks so bad with the new resolution.

*edit* Fixed it.
oh, and for the avatar selection - i would suggest adding the work of Joachim Luetke ;) kind of giger-ish.
this is my favorite work of his :

All hail the mighty image-resizing powers of MS Paint. :p

I use photos I take myself, I cut and re size them with Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo XI. I would think almost any image editing software would work as well. Before you use something found on the internet find out if it is copyrighted. If it is, sometimes the artist will allow you to use it if you contact them and give them proper credit for their work.

My old avatar, which was perfect looks terrible with the sizing.
Just resize and crop then...
Too lazy/busy to get on photoshop... so now I'm settling for a forum avatar...
BWAAAG... look what you've made me done! *sniff*

either post it here, or email me the pic, and any instructions of how you want it done, other than resized

Sweet of you, Dead Space. I'd ask you to clean up mine, I know it's terribly fuzzy, but since it's a real picture of me, it's probably better I not be identifiable, for privacy's sake.

Hey, we'll get you another shark, happy? ;D

Open a canvas of 115x145 Make the image height 145 and position your image until it looks best. That is how I did mine. The original image was 1920x1200 widescreen wallpaper.

There. Made one for consideration. The image isn't perfect so I did a bit of editing (the border was right above the shark); I think it turned out ok.

My avatar disappeared, and when I tried uploading one from my computer, even though it fits withing the parameters, it was rejected by the software. I got an "Invalid Avatar Specified" message.
Not sure what to do next.
Jezebel

even though it fits withing the parameters. . .
It has to be exactly 115x145, not just fit within.
Not sure what to do next.
If you are unable to resize it to be exactly 115x145, post a request with the picture you would like in this subforum (preferably larger than 115x145) and someone will resize it for you.

It has to be exact?
That's my problem then.
I have the software to fix it.
Thank you kindly.

I got it to the right dimensions, but then it's 40 kb. When I reduce the kb, it makes the picture too small.
I have Photoshop 2 and Paint. What do I have to do to get both the dimensions and the kb numbers exact?

I'm not familiar with Photoshop 2. I use the 'save for web' tool in Photoshop CS3 to get higher quality jpg files less than 20kb. You can also save as a gif, though there is color loss. If none of that works, you could post the 40kb file and I can save it to a smaller size for you.
