What make one person prefer cold weather and another prefer hot weather? I mean sure genetics plays a role but in one family you won't have everybody enjoying the same temp.

i have no idea. i love the cold and can tolerate freezing weather MUCH more than heat and humidity. I drop like a fly in heat.

Different metabolisms, i can't stand hot weather...love the cold, everyone else in my family is the opposite. Do have a fast metabolism though.

I have absolutely no preference. When it is really cold, I wish for some heat (not monstrous heat however.) When it is extremely hot, I prey for some cold. The only way I can compare the two is comparing my desires for each. Doing so, I would pick the cold when the weather is hot.
There are benefits for both. When it is cold, staying home and staying warm is great. But it is the same thing with heat; you anticipate the moment you get home to turn on the AC (if it was not turned on before.)
Home weather is greatest.

For me it's more of a practical thing. My weather preferences come from tennis.
If it's cold out, I have a *lot* worse time with warming up than if it's hot out. I just don't move as well. And I don't like playing tennis with tons of layers on and hands that are purple because it's cold. I'd much rather play in hot and humid weather.

The environment one goes up in may affect their preferences. If they grow up in a very cold place, they may long for a warmer climate. Or if they like their current weather, they may prefer that... like me. I love the climate here in California. ;)

It's also more of a practical thing for me - I smell bad and sweat a lot in hot weather, so I like cold rainy weather. Hot, dry weather also irritates my skin. People think I'm strange, but I don't like the climate here in California.

I personally prefer cold weather. I don't tolerate the heat well. I can do something about being cold I can't about being hot. I also tend to get headaches in the heat regardless of how much water I drink.

Well people have different skin-types/colours, noses, eyes, hair colours, and so on, each of which lend themselves to different kinds of climates. I think I would most like a moderate temperature, with lots of moisture - somewhere like Britain or Washington state. My redhead freckle-face brother, prefers Northern Ontario, where I suppose he can get more Vitamin D than I could (I'm still pretty pale though).

I don't like the cold, but can stand it much more than hot. Moreoften, people would exclaim: "It's so cold!" I would be confused: "How cold, exactly?" "3 C" "You call that cold?"

I'm a fan of both hot and cold, but I think I can tolerate REALLY cold weather more than REALLY hot weather.

I hate sweating, insects and UV rays so I'd prefer winter. Although I'd rather not go outside when it's -20.
I used to like the cold and I did grow up in a cold environment but I had a sudden snap somewhere in my youth and I couldn't tolerate it as much anymore.

I live in the south so I'm more adjusted to 100+ in the summer than 10 degrees F in the winter...I don't even like 30F...ideally I'll take 70F year round somewhere as long as it's not purgatory

I'm from Buffalo, so I associate cold weather with snow. It doesn't get fantastically cold here, like it does in Minnesota, but if you're afraid of a mere 12 inches of snow, you're a wuss. But as far as temperatures themselves go, I don't really care. I think my lack of feelings might spill over into physical sensations as well. ;)

Cold weather causes the body to work harder to maintain tempurature
Hot weather just plain causes sweat.
I'm inbetween the two preferences. I haven't really givin it to much thought to begin with.

I live in the Southeastern U.S., and I prefer our "crisp" winter weather to our hot summer weather.
But when it comes to truly cold weather, it's a different story. I can stand 90°F weather better than 20°F weather, for example. I'm much more accustomed to the former; I've learned a lot of the tricks to maintaining a cool body temperature.

I think the environment where one grows up will affect how we react to the different type of weather.
I grew up in Puerto Rico, warm all the time with low humidity, so to me HOT weather in the US is not fun because of the humidity, but I do love HOT weather rather than the COLD weather.
Now, I've lived in the US for 17 years and the COLD I guess I got used to some extend, but would trade anything to have the same HOT weather from Puerto Rico, without the Humidity.
COLD weather is not for me, but I like SPRING weather in the US, not too hot or too cold, just perfect. I also love Rainy days, although I wish I could stay home those days.:p

I suspect body type and where you grew up both have a lot to do with it. Acclimatization matters too... the cold chills me to the bone when it starts here in the fall, but by the end of the winter it feels like nothing.
But despite growing up in New England, I'm better with heat. Maybe because I'm anemic and so skinny besides, it's hard for me to generate or maintain heat. Throwing on more clothing doesn't help, perversely, so I tend to have the opposite perspective of many people... I feel like I can "do something" about heat (soak my head in water, have a cold drink) but can't do anything about cold. Well, I can run around, exercise warms me up. But I can't do that if I'm sitting in a classroom.
I'm often fine with heat, and it does get over 100 degrees F in the summer here sometimes, with the inevitable attendant 99% humidity, but it gets me sometimes too. It's enervating. Makes you feel weak and unwell.

I grew up in Minnesota. I prefer cold temperatures because I can "do something" about it as others have said. More layers isn't always the case I often think that eating mare makes me warmer in the winter. I go to school in North Dakota so I'm used to temps well below zero on a daily basis. Acclimation I think is the biggest factor to what temp we prefer. I used to not be able to get much work done in extreme heat, but after working outside during the summer for my job I can handle more and more of it.

I have a huge problem with hot weather. I love and prefer the cold. On the topic of rain, don't you get tired of people saying its wet and miserable? Wet sure, miserable why?

Some might already be aware that I abhor the cold. SeaCzar, I'm with you!
It can't be TOO hot for me. I start to become conscious when it gets above 50, tolerable above 70, ebullant at 80, downright giddy at 90 and positively glowing above 100. Humidity? C'mon, I live near the Great Lakes - humidity is almost always high. And sweat is nature's way of saying, "Oooh, you're shiny!"
Bring on the heat!!

I like warmer weather simply because ice fishing although very tasty, is kind of boring, and heating bills suck.
So for those of you in the U.S. midwest, what the f*** is the deal? Did March decide to be February, and April decide to be March? I just want to catch some smallies.

Exactly, the rain makes everything feel all clean and refreshed and I love the way that it smells and the grey filtered light it creates :)

We're going crazy up here in MI! Soon, a wave of cold-inspired mass murders will start to occur. It's a good thing that the weather is warming this weekend - fewer places to hide the bodies.

I use to go for walks in the forest while it was raining. That damp earth smell combined with the pine needle smell is still one of my favourite smells. *daydream* and malva pudding when it is cooking.

I generally prefer colder weather as I'm fairly warm by nature. However, I now have Raynauds syndrome/disease (whichever, I forget), so while my body is warm my hands are generally frozen. That gets pretty annoying, so I'm warming up to warm weather.
Humidity still sucks though.

Hot weather, I was born in the hot Asian country of India, and I found it extremely hard to get used to Canada's very cold climate when I first moved... there. I'm used to it now, but I still love the warm/hot weather.

I love cold, frosts, snow, hail, heavy rain and thunderstorms.
The more"disgusting" the weather, the happier I am.
Dunno why.

Maybe its because you can do something about it. If you are cold, put a jacket on. Raining? Raincoat, have a nice fire going in the fireplace. I prefer the cold to the heat. You can do something about being cold or wet, you can't do much to cool down especially without a pool.

I've moved about every 3 years of my life, to a fair variety of places. That being said, I much prefer hot weather to cold. 85+ with dry air is ideal. I hate humidity cause it just makes me feel sticky, but I can tolerate it fine if I dress lightly.
Really cold weather (below 40F) bothers me. I generally hate it unless it's snowing.
