Just a random thought when I walked into an old lecture hall with no lights on.

I personally don't see the point in horror movies... so I don't watch them.
Same goes for most comedies...

The way that I would discribe horror moives has a close relationship with their name. Horrorable!

They are one of two things...
1) Gore fest with no point
2) bad story line with overdone "scary" situations that you have to laugh at cause it's so stupid.

If I want to be scared I will go find myself a sad/upset/angry ESFx, or better yet just find an ESFx and make them sad/upset/angry.
Oh, I almost forgot that I would be locked in a small room with them that has no way out.

Now thats scary, locked in a room where that personality does not meet up to par with INTJ. Worse than a scary movie; more like a nightmare.

Answer: Meditation combined with fantasy.

I love horror movies, especially well done ones, as well as poorly done ones. Sometimes I just like to sit on the couch in the middle of the night with no lights on and accept their reality as my own for a while and be terrified. It's fun.

Yeah, I don't really see the point of horror films.

As mentioned earlier, most these days are movies that equate - Gore = Horror, somehow??? Either that or they try to be suspense thrillers, but are so bad that there's little suspense, and the only thrill is leaving afterwards.

That's pretty much my thoughts on horror movies.

But disliking comedies is something I can't understand.

I think they are pretty corny and predictable, but I wouldn't go as far to say that I hate them. I'd rather see a comedy, or something far-fetched.

Horror videogames, on the other hand, are awesome. Games like Silent Hill, Resident Evil, etc.

Comedies... most of them out there are just stupid. They show the protagonst doing stupid things, hurting him self because he's dimwitted... etc etc etc.
It just annoys me immensely...
Witty funny stuff like Shrek I like

There are very few comedies I can watch more than once. With horror movies, I don't like gore. My favorite horror movie is " The Shining ", those little girls still scare the crap out of me. I can't turn a blind corner in the house for a week when I watch it :scared:

I love horror movies! The (few) good ones that are truly scary are the best, but I appreciate the bad ones as well – especially if they don't take themselves too seriously (i.e. they know they're bad and are proud of it). I don't particularly like gore, to me that's not the point of the genre. IMHO the point is to build tension and suspense to a razor's edge and then "drop the hammer", that is, release all of that energy in a great big rush.

The other guilty pleasure that I get from horror movies is to critique the actions and motivations of the characters, and to critique the malevolent force / creature / alien / whatever that is wreaking havoc.

I often am commenting on what the characters in the story are doing and why they are doing it. Whether it's a good idea to be sticking their hand into the scary black hole, or not running away when the gelatinous mass is heading straight for them. I'm constantly saying (when I'm at home) or thinking (when in a theater), "You idiot, don't just stand there screaming…run!", or, "No, you fool, that is NOT your dead mother – it's the brain sucking monster!". I always said that if I wrote a horror movie it would last 15 minutes; opening credits, shot of "thing" killing first victim, hero character development scene, hero sees creature, hero runs, closing credits.

I also like looking at the horrible "thing" that is involved. Is it plausible? Is it believable? Today's special effects allow movie creatures to be more exotic but not necessarily better. Sometimes they can get to be too fantastic. My personal favorites are the Alien from the movie of the same name, and the flying dude from Jeepers Creepers.

Sometimes the most frightening creatures, are the ones that are most real.

I love horror and science fiction movies. How about these: The Omen (the first one), The Thing (the one from the 50's), Alien, Aliens, The Exorcist, Psycho (the original) and The Shining. My parents and siblings loathe horror movies. I have never understood it. I like filmmakers who use their imagination to scare me. I'm just one of those people who like to be scared (at least I admit it).

This week was really tense and frightening here in San Diego. I packed up my car with my important papers and memories and waited to be evacuated, but I wasn't. I had to stay at home (the air quality was dreadful) with the windows shut (and it was in the 90's outside) and watched horror movies. There are worse ways to spend a long scarey week at home!

Most modern horror films are all the about the gore and no plot. Oh, and half-naked women.

On a separate note, somebody please disable that Borat pic *:yuck:

I voted 'hate'em.

I haven't been scared by any movie since I was a kid. To me a horror movie it just bad acting, no plot, too much gore and some occasional comedy. If there was more comedy perhaps I would watch. Although I did like "Braindead"...

dammit why can't I get that stupid borat pic out of my head

Horror movies are fantastic! I enjoy old B-horror the very best, and Japanese horror movies are wicked cool. I enjoyed Ju-on, Ringu, and Reincarnation. And another that I suggest to anyone that say they detest horror: watch "A Tale Of Two Sisters". It's Korean, supremely underrated, and one of the most frightening movies I've ever watched. I've watched "The Shining", "The Exorcist", "Halloween", etc. etc., and I don't really find those very appealing. I prefer "Night Of The Living Dead", "The Abominable Doctor Phibes", "Freaks", etc.

And come on, "Shaun Of The Dead"? CANNOT BEAT IT.

The pictures stay in my head too long and make me paranoid. I can't watch scary movies.

I really don't like EVIL... so I simply can't watch horror movies...

They also scare me.... they scare me that weirdo's out there will copy them...

You mean they'll copy them and live them out like I do? ;D I love horror movies, and gore I don't need to be scared in order to enjoy them. The exorcist left me so scared, I didn't sleep the whole night and part of the next night.

I haven't responded to this thread yet?

I've loved horror since I was a kid, although werewolves still terrify me to pieces (I can watch the movies but... guh). Although I oddly love the "Ginger Snaps" series but I can do without the transformation scenes, thanks.

My favorite horror movie is "Carrie" without a doubt.

An underrated ghost movie is "The Changeling" and I also have an affinity for "House" (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.) although I can't explain why at all.

I mentioned before that I hate gory films, but my favorite singer (the guy who sings the song cielo market) is starring in Boderland (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 2 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.). I'm so conflicted!

It was limited release, so I think I'm gonna have to wait for the DVD...

I was very imaginative/creative as a child. I had an imaginary friend. I believed in magic. I was always scared of the monsters in my closet and under my bed. I couldn't watch horror without nightmares. I'm not sure what changed or when it changed, but now I find horror movies hilarious and they don't get to me at all. I don't watch them when I'm in the mood for a quality film and they don't make my favorites list, but I definitely find them entertaining.

I don't have any interest in horror unless it's amalgamated with some sort of techno-exquisite science fiction. The undead oafish yokel in a hockey mask chopping people up with a saw does nothing for me, but the murderous Giger aliens with acid blood on the deep-space mining vessel get me all hot and bothered.

Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, Event Horizon. Basically.
