We will be updating the forum template and avatar galleries this weekend. Those of you using avatars from the gallery may have noticed they disappeared. This is temporary and the gallery will be back this weekend when the other changes go live.

What is the percent bar thing above the avatar?

I was wondering the same thing. :suspicious:

I wonder what happens when we reach 100%. It seems virtually impossible though, I'm at like 13% and I've made almost 500 posts.

I prefer the old template.
Is there any way to select which one to use?

It is a rank bar. The percent displayed is generalized based upon the number of posts, where four thousand posts is one hundred percent. Aside from being something new to play with, the rank bar functions much as it does on most forums that use them. That is: it's a way of displaying how active each user has been within the community over the years, without needing to look at the Members List. The old ranks, in contrast, served no social function.

No. Also, please note that the primary updates to the template won't be fully implemented until the end of the weekend.

It's weighted, is it not? Covering recency as well as number of posts.

Nah, nothing so complex. If by regency you mean the age of an account, that is displayed in-thread as Join Date.

What happens when a person reaches 4000 posts?

A title change, reflecting that milestone. You may be surprised at how rapidly people reach these numbers as boards grow. User titles convert from New Member to Member at eighty posts, from member to Veteran Member at two thousand posts, and from veteran member to Core Member at four thousand posts. After which the title remains the same and the post-whole percent continues increasing indefinitely.

Or maybe a ban instead.

I think we can leave it ambiguous.

A subtle hint to get a life and stop posting so much at four thousand? ;)

Heh. I was just messing around really, but thinking more along the lines of something Churchill said. It is not necessary to use only the most deadly gases: gases can be used which cause great inconvenience and would spread a lively terror and yet would leave no serious permanent effects on most of those affected...

Spreading a lively terror, good plan? In truth though, we don't intend to discourage quality users from posting at any point. 4k isn't a relatively high count for active forums that've been around for a year or more, and we would like to build the forum well beyond that. Active membership over the long term is something we'll always be pleased to see.

Lol, I've been on this forum since early December and I only have 500 posts. It seems almost impossible to get to 4000.

Just as an example, it will take the top non-moderator poster, 'rei' 241 days to reach 4k posts if she keeps her current pace. It'll take me 710 days if I keep up my current pace..

I think this status bar is interesting. I've actually gone and tried to compare where I am relative to other people post-wise on other forums by viewing members and sorting them by post count. This will satisfy my curiosity more efficiently, so thank you.

Only one thing puzzles me... why did you bother to create guidelines to discourage the use of avatars rather than simply disabling them?

Impossible? maybe depends on your patience. This forum has a sufficient population but stronger posting requirements. On another forum where they don't seem to restrict I had a post count of 2950.

Of course I'm not making that many posts here, when I make Off-Topic posts I feel out of order (I don't like that feeling), although I do like last word.

As for rates, I wouldn't measure rates that way. I think as time progresses our posting rate declines. Like mine is 6/day, it's actually more like 1/day now.

I'm wondering, would it be realistic for the future that we're able customize our titles at a certain number of posts? I would like to be 'Superficial Wannabe', as I am on some forums.

Good question is there some kind of research project going on?
