View Full Version : Walking really fast...is that an INTJ trait?

Almost everyone in my life has commented on how fast I walk...is that mostly a trait of an INTJ? I always reply that I don't see the point in strolling, I feel like its a waste of time when you could be using it to get somewhere and do something.

I don't know if it's a common trait, but I do. And i jump around people too, to keep the pace in crowded roads.

I walk a lot faster than most people in my high school do. Also, a far as routes go, I try to be efficient. My friends say I'm good at "storming the gaps" in crowds.

My INTJ son and I walk fast and veer around people without bumping into them. Don't know if it's an INTJ trait, though it could be that point A to point F INTJ thing. Hmm, but my impatient ENFP daughter also does this.

Well for one thing most of us don't see any point in walking slow since we often don't have people to talk to.
The sooner I'm home the better, I don't see why I'd prolong my sidewalk time.
Therefore people who hog whole sidewalks and move at slow speeds are my enemy.

I wish they allowed me to carry weapons in airports. What the fk is the deal with standing on the moving platform, that thing is designed so that I can achieve 0.99c. And if people cannot carry-on their giant baggage efficiently they should have to check it, or allow me to harm them in ways proportional to the time they robbed me of.

I'm not an INTJ, but I know one that definitely walks fast.
I usually only walk fast when I'm in a hurry or after drinking LOTS AND LOTS of caffeine.

My friends always complain that I walk too fast.... It also doesn't help that I'm one of the tallest. One of my friends always tugs on me to get me to slow down.

Yeah my husband complains too. "Run, run, run," he says. I don't see myself as running, merely getting where I want to go and out as quickly as possible. I see no point in doddling when I have others things to do and the day is wasting.

How funny, I've come close to starting this thread several times, but I didn't see it as solely an INTJ trait.

But yet, I've noticed INTJ's "walk with a purpose".

However, my older (ESTP) brother is one of the fastest walkers I've seen. That is why I never started the thread, haha.

But INTJ's...if you get them up from the couch, then they've done so to get something done and taken care of. Quick walking with efficiency will be noticed.

Fast walker here too (except when walking with a nice female company). No reason to waste time walking slowly + height of 6' 5'' (long legs) + skinniness = fast speed and nice veering skills.

My girlfriend is ESTP, she makes me feel like a turtle. She is always close to running. Now when I thought, I can not imagine her walking slowly, haha.

I think it's fun to plan the most efficient route, then on the way try to avoid bumping into anyone in the crowd or being slowed by large masses of people.

I think it has to do with our need for efficiency and our impatience, it can be linked with personality and I bet INTJs are good drivers too.

I walk faster than most, but not enough to be considered "running." What most people notice is how focused I seem to be on finding my destination. However, I get confused about my location easily, and that makes up the time I save by not really talking to people or walking with them on my way (I'm usually only 2 minutes early)... I'm afraid I'll be late, because 5 minutes seems like no time at all. I could get distracted by my own thoughts for that amount of time easily if I'm not extremely careful/alert, and it worries me there there's such a strict limit.

I walk really fast and it drives some of my friends crazy, so I walk slower and the worst part is when I walk slowly I walk kind of side to side without trying too and bump into them, so I prefer to walk alone and fast and in straight lines even if it means trips on the grass.

Also fast walker- I've tried walking at everyone else's pace, and I honestly don't even know how they can stand it. Everyone's always on my case about it. Although no doubt it has less to do with personality and more to do with growing up with a tall father and brother.

and hey, driving can suit an INTJ- it's independence!

Alone, i walk fast, with someone or a group i'll match pace. Become very skilled at weaving through crowds without touching anyone.
Driving...am excellent, i notice everything going on, gets processed, analyzed, predicted. Even to the possibility of tire blowouts on my own and other vehicles...which way they'd veer. Have raced though, both courses and street, street much more fun...even though it's severely frowned upon. -.-

I hate people walking slowly because this forces me to walk around them which forces them to look at me and complain (I live NY). I walk extremely fast. Some times I get out of classes having one hour to waste before going to work, so I plan to walk slowly and take my time. Without knowing it, I end up getting there really early. I know people around the neighborhood, I just do not want to communicate with them... it forces me to improvise and come up with witty comments on the spot. Making up witty comments seems to be the only way to make a healthy escape.

Its not only walking fast, if there is a rail infront of me and there are people at my sides, I would not wait for the people to pass by, I would jump over the railing. I also scale walls, walk on rooftops, and perform acrobatics to get to my destination.

I've been accused of sauntering many times in the past. If I'm walking with people, there's usually a good conversation going. If I'm by myself, I'll be lost in my head. Walking fast is kind of uncomfortable.

Unless, of course, I'm on a mission. If its time critical, or I'm not in the mood to enjoy the uniqueness of not being at home, I'll go from Mr. Sauntering to Speedy Gonzales. Of course, I crowd weave with the best of them in either case :)

I walk faster than most of the INTJs I know, and have known. Fast enough that friends comment on how fast I walk. Fast enough that if I am needing to walk and talk with a person at work, I have to force myself to slow down. I don't know that fast walking can really be linked to any particular personality type, because I can see that any type can be construed as a fast walker in the right circumstances.

I generally do walk fast. But now I usually have a 3 year old walking beside me and man is she slow... that is, when we'reactually trying to get somewhere, at home I can't get her to stop running.

Anyway, I walk fast especially on a city sidewalk, and I am looking down most of the time, either stepping on the lines or stepping over them, mostly I guess to keep my pace. When I was in school I always looked downward right in front of me as well, to keep myself from looking at other people... I've gotten into a couple awkward confrontations with people asking "what are you looking at?"... the truth is, I'm just kind of 'zoned out' and not really paying attention to where my eyes are pointing.

I actually enjoy driving in rural areas, that's how I do most of my 'meditation'... I'm amazed sometimes how I can be so alert and aware of how I'm driving while being completely lost in my thoughts. I've never been in an accident.

I think the reason I walk so fast is because I'm really good at it. At my school it's really small and the halls are very narrow so it's VERY crowded at times. But I'm good at wading through it- kinda like Altair from Assassins Creed. I keep my head down, ignore people, push through those in my way. Nothing can stop me from getting to my destination once I have a destination set.

I walk fast, it's death when I walk with my other fast-walking friend, we're usually wrapped up in a conversation and don't notice we've just covered about 200m in 10 seconds until we get to the end and can't actually figure out why we can't breathe..
and I do tend to walk into the people next to me if I'm walking slowly in a group, too. then again I walk into walls in the house I've lived in for 18 years, so that may have more to do with me personally than anything INTJ..

Yep, same here. I always walk fast and with a purpose. When I go onto 'auto-pilot' I can walk from school to the bus stop without really noticing it. It felt weird the first couple of times but now it's normal.

Most of my friends say 'Why walk so fast?' [some believe I teleport!] believing that I should slow down and talk. Why, when I have somewhere to go?!

The class is your red light, 12:00 is your green light and the door is your start marker.

Before the door opens you both need to stare at each other with malice and fierce intentions.
Then you open your mouthes and before the bell rings!... you make "Vroom, Vroom" noises at each other. Then you two can dash off into the distance shoving down all the skinny kids in your way and let the wind from your high speeds blow the unsecured papers off of the textbook the girl has in her arms. Eventually one of you will collide with a trash can, get back up and wave your first at the other.

I pride myself on the fact that I do almost everything a bit faster and more efficient than the average person without compromising quality and integrity. I used to have such an efficient class schedule in college I was jogging all over the place to make sure I didn't fall behind schedule. Sometimes I think I pace myself based on the time I have left and the distance I have to cover... is that just abnormal?!?!

I can't wait till the last 10 seconds though because the couple minutes before class is my designated "Oh shit, I forgot to do my homework, time to do it" time. I always get it done though (Okay not quite always. the 30 min before first block wasn't enough to do a 200 point project my first semester in high school. i got about 90 points though, pretty good considering I did it at the last second. Needless to say i did not repeat the process on my next project.)

I didn't want to be in school any longer than I had to... so 5-30 seconds was enough. Nowadays I plan my 1h 30 min commutes to within 5 minutes.
I had those sudden forgets in elementary but I didn't really have homework too often since I'd be done all of the work in class and spend the rest of the time daydreaming.

However had an incident not as bad as bad as yours in high school but it was deliberate, I procrastinated a 3 month project worth 30% of my mark until the last weekend. I got 19/20 though... how lucky :)

Hmm, I'll walk fast when working or when doing something that is purposeful I suppose. But for the most part, I like to enjoy what is around me and consciously try to slow down for it sometimes. When I'm out on leisure time, I don't hurry unless I absolutely have to, I prefer taking my time and getting the most efficiency out of my leisure time too.

If I'm alone, and want to get somewhere, I walk as fast as possible using the most direct route available. During autopilot, I suspect my walking speed is high, but I haven't been able to test enough to be certain. I've learned to walk slightly behind everyone else on sightseeing expeditions. This eliminates annoying questions regarding whether I actually 'saw' the sights.

When I'm inside buildings or other confined spaces (e.g. stockyards), people seem to think I'm moving slowly. As a matter of fact, I'm moving just as fast as them but expending less energy. When I actually do move slowly, it is because I have no need of haste at that particular time.

I use to walk very fast, always in deep thought/day-dream~ until I started walking this girl home everyday way back in high school. She was good at keeping up with my pace, but when I found out I was going uncomfortably fast for her I slowed down. For a long since (long after the time period of walking with her) I still continued to go slow~ I'm a little disappointed in that.

I walk really fast when I am getting from class to class, I do it primarily in school. No point in wasting time by walking slowly and staring at other people. I really hate it when you're trying to get to class, you're walking fast and you accidentally push someone who is standing right in front of the door, and they make a big fuss about it. It's their fault they were standing there. Not mine. I even apologized. Bloody seniors and their stupid ways...

Well for one thing most of us don't see any point in walking slow since we often don't have people to talk to.
The sooner I'm home the better, I don't see why I'd prolong my sidewalk time.
Therefore people who hog whole sidewalks and move at slow speeds are my enemy.

...I'm the same.. Wow, I was doubting my INTJ "ness", when coming to this forum, but now I'm certain..

Just try to imagine a INTJ pride parade. It would all be over before people even noticed it.

 Ha ha. This made me laugh so much just to imagine that!

I walk faster than most of the INTJs I know, and have known.

I walk faster than everyone I know, including INTJs & ENTJs! And I am only a shortarse girl too but I can outwalk men easily without even trying. I always go everywhere with ferocious purpose, mostly because I always have tonnes of energy and I like expending it. I was considering getting a dog at one point because I thought it would be fun having a nice enthusiastic, sociable pet. I had to abandon the idea after I realised I would just exhaust the poor thing every time I took it for a walk!

I pretty much do everything else fast too. Supermarket shopping I hate with a vengence. I will wait until around midnight before going there (so that hardly anyone else is around) and then I like to get everything over and done with in under 15 minutes!

And re driving cars.... my INTJ husband is always in such a hurry to get everywhere it's like being in a Rally Car. But at the same time he is daydreaming so he is constantly having to slam on the breaks to avoid accidents. Me and my ENTJ buddies seem to be more proactive at predicting what is happening up ahead in the traffic ahead and adept at avoiding any trouble.

Almost everyone in my life has commented on how fast I walk...is that mostly a trait of an INTJ? I always reply that I don't see the point in strolling, I feel like its a waste of time when you could be using it to get somewhere and do something.

In my experience, yes. I think that when an INTJ has somewhere to go, he or she just does that. Why walk slowly anyway? Strolling is rather inefficient. The same can be said about me. However, I do like to stroll now and again and take in the sights. That's my SF part, but when I have somewhere to go, I just go!

I almost always walk fast for the sake of efficiency. I hate spending a lot of time on traveling. My guy friends get the most annoyed by this because sometimes they have trouble keeping up when I go through crowds ;D

Of course, unless the whole point of walking is to enjoy the sights. If I'm out on a trail or in the park I may slow down my pace.

Hehe. It's funny how many of you mention the walking through crowds thing like that. I haven't really ever noticed either way. But my INTJ, even though he is way slower than me I notice is really stubbonly determined about where he is going and heaven forbid anything that gets in his way. If I am walking out of a room and he wants to walk into it he won't wait for me to leave first (even though that would be logical). He'll just barge in and try pushing me out of the way. :irked: I usually stand my ground and piss him off!

Well, I certainly walk faster than most people I have seen. It's a need, I think, to get from point A to point B as quickly and efficiently as possible. Example: My probably-ENFP mother strolls very leisurely and slowly when grocery shopping, looking around for different items that strike her as interesting/well-priced/useful. But my dad and I, we march straight in and out of the store, checking off each item on a written list as we go. Needless to say, I get very restless shopping with my mother (I get restless shopping in general, though--the longer it takes the worse.)

Ditto. I have an ENFP mother as well and she is like that and it drives me nuts! She'll ask me if I want to go shopping with her and well, I am always so bored and frustrated by it. I'll say yes because I want to be sociable but I actually hate shopping. :yuck: Window shopping is the worst. Aimlessly looking around for the hell of it. I am a list person too.

I'm certain I'm a fast walker, people are always mentioning it to me. I see no point in just walking normally(slowly) when you're going to the super market to get something. People complain i walk faster than i drive.

I walk very quickly (quickly enough for people to comment on it), which I think is a product of my need for efficiency as well as the fact that my legs are three feet long. When I drive, though, I tend to do that speed-up slow-down thing that I guess most people do when they're tired or whatever. I'm just daydreaming, so my foot stops pressing down so hard on the gas, I slow down to like 45 mph, then I notice and speed up again. I also have a tendency to swerve a little, though thankfully my on foot tendency to physically shove people out of my way hasn't shown up in my driving. Yet.

Oh God now I don't want to start driving school this summer. I knew being an INTJ would make driving a ballsucking activity. I'd never be able to pay attention to something so boring long enough and will probably end up in a wreck :/

 I was in 18 accidents the first year I started driving. Nothing serious, I'd go off the road and hit a tree. Look up because I'd feel a bump and find myself driving on the sidewalk, etc. I just couldn't pay attention long enough to keep my eyes on the road. Getting a stick shift solved that problem. To this day, I refuse to drive an automatic and I haven't been in an accident since....

Yeah, I do walk kind of fast. I can move very quickly, mainly because I am eager to get things done. People drove me NUTS in high school when they would walk maybe a step every 2 seconds. Sometimes I was late for class, other times I just wanted to get around. Maybe it has something to do with the speed in which my brain processes things. My mother has had coworkers spot me at local shopping areas sometimes, and before they could flag me down and say hi, I was gone and moving.

I walk really slow and people complain. What happens is I usually end up thinking about something and just kind of "space walking", walking while spacing out. I can do it while paying attention to where I'm walking too so I never bump into things but basically I completely zone out the whole time and by the time I realize where I am I'm at my destination.

I'm usually always thinking about what car or computer to buy next even though I never have money, it is my favorite thing to do. Or put the cars in order of purchase if I ever won the lottery, or my favorite of each type (sedan, coupe, roadster, SUV, truck, crossover, ect). This is a never ending process so I always have something to think about while I walk. I really like cars.

Me too. The only time I'm able to walk really fast is when I'm just about to reach shut down mode, that critical time when I feel that everyone around me is annoying and I wished they leave me alone. I guess maybe it's like a fight or flight instinct kicking in. Except instead of "flight" its more of a"walk super fast and veer around obstacles with skillful timing" kind of thing.

I hate it when people don't keep to the correct side of the footpath or escalator. And I hate people who slowly veer all over the place and can't walk in a straight line, and then they bump into you when you go to overtake them.

The only time I walk slowly is when I see someone I dislike or don't want to make small-talk with, and I trail behind them. It's especially annoying when they walk just slowly enough to piss me off, but just fast enough to prevent me from overtaking them without some serious leg speed boost.

And if people cannot carry-on their giant baggage efficiently they should have to check it, or allow me to harm them in ways proportional to the time they robbed me of.I usually walk really fast and I tend to think the same way you do, but I recently injured my back (herniated disc) and I can't walk that fast right now. Now if I see people walking slow, I wonder if maybe they can't walk any faster. I do still think people walking slow should stay out of the way though. I try to stick close to buildings and walls and stuff and stay out of the way of people who are in a hurry. The last time I was in an airport though, I took advantage of the moving sidewalks because standing doesn't hurt as bad as walking. The airport I was in had two "lanes" on the moving sidewalk. One for standing and one for walking.

I'm usually Speedy Gonzales at work or when out doing something that's been planned. While contemplative, it's more of a Tibetan monk pace.

I suspect people who are engaged in Te are most likely fast walkers. I would be willing to state that as a prediction since I've already noticed many fast walking __TJs. Rather than an INTJ trait, though, I'd say it's primarily an ENTJ and ESTJ trait – or at least it should be more probable for one of them to be a fast walker in comparison to other types, if my little prediction has any merit.

So are ENTJs slower than INTJs? I would also expect them to be fast. My ENTJ band mate sort of ambles compared to me and he can never figure out where the hell I am going in such a hurry.

One time my sister asked me to walk at a normal speed while we were on the way to a friends house just to see how hard she would have to try to keep up. She literally had to jog very quickly next to me to keep up. She's also only 5'2", a good 14" shorter than I am. I'm not a fast driver though, I frequently find myself driving up to 10 miles under the speed limit if I'm not on the highway or a main road. I live out in the country though, so I'm not slowing anyone else down, and I rarely feel pressed for time.
I do love the weaving game in crowds though. I always try to go as fast as possible without making any contact with other people. When I'm walking I'm usually inside my head doing something important, so I'm not paying any attention to my pace. There have only been a rare few occasions where I have come across people that walk faster or noticeably keep pace with me, never anyone that I actually know though.

I walk pretty fast too, even though I have rather short legs. And yes, 44sunsets, I am part of that group. I hate slow walking people (only when they're in the way).

This is probably a trait of INTJs. We are very efficient people, so it would make sense if we are also efficient with our time. I, too, walk with a purpose (others have mentioned that). It's cool because I've gotten so good at it, I can walk down a hall in my HS, without a pass, and nobody questions me. It's probably not that they respect me (psssh, yeah right), but that they know, "this guy's got somewhere important to be"

Something I've been trying lately is- has any one seen the Matrix, where Morpheus (a fellow INTJ) walks through a swarming crowd of people, untouched? I've been trying to do that, to cross intersections in the halls of my HS without hesitation like that. Some days it works, but Friday afternoons are suicide :)

On the paris metro they have the moving platform things, but they have a slow one and a FAST one, which goes twice as fast as the normal sort - so fast that they warn you before you get on, and it has a little area of rotating wheels at the beginning and end to accelerate you and decelerate you. I used to walk very quickly and dodge through crowds. Pretty impressive for someone 6'4 and about 220 lbs I'd say. These days I just take my time. I suppose I'm more relaxed then back then.

Incidentally how many of you were insanely good at dodge ball?

I'm a very fast walker. Usually it's hard for people to keep up with me. If I'm walking somewhere, I have somewhere to go and don't need to dally around before I get there.

I have to consciously make a choice to slow my natural pace down when I'm out hiking, through. Blazing up a mountain path a my normal break-neck speed will only tire me out, and I miss too much of the amazing scenery.

I find that I either walk very quickly or very slowly, and it usually depends on my mood: if I'm feeling good or like crap, respectively.

I walk around incredibly fast. Also, I plan routes accordingly to get to locations as quickly as I can and I also have aggressive "crowd removal" techniques (not shoving!) to get myself through dense crowds (the last place I want to be in and a hindrance). I will walk off a sidewalk to get to a location quicker, all of which sets off the ire of people who wonder why I don't "stop and smell the roses". Only when I want to de-stress will I casually stroll and look at things.

I walk very slowly, so I doubt it is an INTJ trait.
As I am lost in my world, walking slowly allows me not to be distracted by other people (if you walk fast, it is more likely you have do avoid people and that disturbs the train of thoughts).

I walk very fast, I also have very quick feet, which is handy for when I'm picking paths through crowds, a quick shuffle or change of direction avoids collisions.
