A.I. starts tonight and unfortunately it is one of my guilty pleasures. I've watched most seasons religiously.

Paula's out. Ellen DeGeneres is in... OK... anything is an improvement over Paula and her ESFJ-ness. Supposedly, this is Simon's last season.

So... basically this is the final year that the show will be good.

Thoughts? Any fans out there?

I am an evil bugger and will hide snarkies behind the spoiler. Click at yer peril.

Sorry, I don't watch commercials. /Snide

It's corrupt, silly, and one of the best counters to the argument that the problem with America is that there is no unifying media anymore. /Mean&Elitist

I've never actually seen American Idol (mostly because I don't live in America), and I don't like these kinds of shows. But I have to admit that I have a soft spot for David Cook. It's really stupid actually, I don't even like the music he has put out after winning AI. It's very un-INTJ of me, but I find him to be a really attractiv human being and if he ever plays a concert near me I am definitely going.

Interesting first couple posts. lol.

This thread should be light fun. The show has millions of fans. Surely there are INTJs among them!

Maa, I don't care for the series; I'm glad for those few excellent singers and performers out there that get their big shot because of the series, but otherwise I'm uninterested in the show.

This season is already amazing. The first contestant was a real-life version of SNL's Mary Catherine Gallager. With a halter-top. And a life partner.

The auditions are pretty funny...in a painful way. I've never listened to any music the show has produced.

Victoria Beckham was surprisingly likeable on the show. I've always sort of hated her for reasons unknown (other than the obvious which is her being 80 pounds and having fake, obnoxious looking tlts. And the Spice girls stuff).

But she seemed pretty laid-back and down to Earth for a person worth as much $$$ as her.

Kara had an angry but hilarious exchange with a guy who looked like Michael Ian Black with glasses on. I'm pretty sure she wanted to bed him. She said "I don't like you much - at all", "You are evoking a very negative, powerful reaction from me" "You need a spanking" and "You're naughty" in the period of about a minute. I'm pretty sure she was ready to do bad things. It was one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time and the loudest I've laughed in a long time.

Will watch again tomorrow. Will also take a long hard look at myself in the mirror.

Don't forget the pumpkin-orange fake tan.

I saw the first few minutes of the show before switching to The Office on TBS, and all I can say is that first chick had some serious stubbly-under-arm-deodorant-cakeage. Yikes.

I have absolutely no idea who these people are, and I'm perfectly fine with that. :)

I have to say this news makes me slightly giddy. I love AI auditions, since there is an army of complete tools combined with a small core of crazy good singers who you get to hear a capella. (A far cry from today's overproduced commercial music.)

I usually drop off one or two shows after the theatre stage, unless there's a Taylor Hicks, Paris Bennett (whose audition was insane) or Bo Bice type character.

I find the selection process a boring freak show, but we do start to watch when they get down to the top 10 or 12.

It's all about being an armchair critic, and rarely about the music, since most of the candidates are mediocre, career-oriented, people-pleasing types, as opposed to the rebellious, uncompromising types who make real music in the real world. The idea of tweaking your style and music to appease "judges" who are more interested in hearing themselves talk than in quality is a fatal flaw in the process.

The only exception is Kelly Clarkson. I think she has a great voice and an amazing ability to sing multiple genres with purity and sincerity.

I usually start off watching the show, then lose interest in the middle of the season, then come back to view the last three stages. My mum and sisters watch it religiously so, at times, there's no avoiding it. The last season I really watched, all the way from start to beginning, was the one with Ruben Staddard and Clay Aitken in the finals. I remember the week where all the contestants sang Lee Greenwood's God Bless The USA. It's an overused word here on the internet, but that was epic!

I think perhaps a fellow INTJ was robbed. I'm talking about Andrew Fenlon. You can look him up on YouTube. I suspect he's an INTJ. Do you guys think he's an INTJ? He sang better than some of the people who were sent to Hollywood. I thought his singing was excellent. The female judges hated him. Posh Spice said he is "hideously arrogant." Their commercial billed him as "the most arrogant contestant ever." I thought he was a bit of a dick and a smartass, but the judges blew it way out of proportion. Kara was vicious. I think Andrew was my favorite singer of the first episode. I'd like to see a lot more from him. I think this guy could possibly be a successful singer without AI. The judges were unfair to him. This show is supposed to be about singing talent, not about being a humble ass kisser. It's not right to deny him his chance and crucify him just because he's a bit of an arrogant smartass. I hope the producer decides to override the judges and send him to Hollywood.

Another notable contestant was Pat Ford. I'm pretty sure this guy is an ENFP. I thought he acted like a retard, but since he's outgoing and social, Kara liked him. I thought he was annoying. He kind of reminded me of Fred from Youtube.

A few more things:
1) I just realized how much this show is about the contestants kissing the judge's butts and how much of a difference it makes in their fates. That's disgusting.
2) I only watch this show so I can laugh at all the retards who can't sing. I quit watching it soon after the auditions are over. I'm not interested in the mediocre singers.
3) I don't like all the sob stories. Who cares. People shouldn't go to Hollywood because of their sob stories.
